Pride month has me thinking about the very first Queer person I ever met: my great-uncle ❤️! I want to tell you all about him!
He was born in the 1940s in Tacoma WA. I am not sure when he came out, but he found the love of his life in California some time in the 1970s and the two of them made a life together in San Francisco. My uncle was an antiques dealer and I have a few of his pieces from when he passed. His life partner of 40+ years worked as a cake decorator and really high end pastry chef.
I loved how he would come to family gatherings with his Partner and lightly troll all of the straight men (who absolutely loved and adored him and the trolling!). I loved how he was so open about who he was, showing me that there’s no reason to not be who I am, too! He had so much joy.
I also have to think about what those two men endured in their lives despite having family that was progressive for the time. Things are so much more open now in many places… but they lived through some harrowing times being gay and out. I salute them in memoriam, and I salute everyone else who walks this path. ❤️
Asexuals were always part of pride and it really fucking shows when people think it's a recent term.
Although not going by the term "asexual" yet, asexuality was spoken about alongside homosexuality as far back as the 1890s. Asexual history is just as vital to queer history as any other term and I'm so tired of watching us being treated like a new thing
This image is so so fucking important to me
Reblog this, cowards
Love conquers all
For @physicsandfandoms who requested aroace TROP Gil-Galad, plus a version with the flag colors in the crown because excellent suggestion.
I'm taking Tolkien pride art/pfp reqs this month! Just send me the character, flag, and if you want a design from a specific adaptation!

Snowy mountain stream
Ooh, like something out of Hithlum 😍
I went out to do a little archery practice in some dedicated shooting trails with my Tolkien-nerd uncle. He brought his fencing foil with him to knock down blackberry vines and nettles that grow along the path.
It is also the time of first berries here in the Pacific Northwest. Behold, a salmonberry! Delightful as the glorious rays of sun that fed it!
Tried to paint the maglor I designed. You can see his design here
oh man i fixed this thing almost ten times before i’m satisfied, i hope it looks ok-ish though x”D and if you still see something wrong with it DON’T TELL ME I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT

The accompanying story to this piece, by the amazing @wavewright62, will bless your feed in a few days time :)
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
Yes! Yes!

Thank you for the tags @balrogballs, @starshadeemilyart and @thescrapwitch. Here is a little something I am working on for Tolkien Disability Pride Month coming up in July, featuring chronically ill Erestor. Tagging @irnina, @bad-writer, @justdrowthings and @gaydhros (but also anyone else who sees this and would like to jump in and share)
Deep within a green, shadowed vale, beneath the western slopes of the Misty mountains where the summits above stand tall as silent guardians and the waters cry loudly the song of the making of the world, there is a sanctuary and refuge: the Last Homely House East of the Sea. Deep within this refuge, that clings, steadfast, to the hills and spills merrily into the hollow, there is a chamber: a place of rest perfectly curated for its inhabitant. That chamber is Erestor’s, and Erestor lies quietly within.
The sanctuary is known commonly as Imladris, or Rivendell, named simply for the cleft into which it’s first inhabitants stumbled, footsore (newly-made refugees, all), but Erestor has always preferred Mar Vanwa Tyaliéva, a house of lost mirth, for so it seems to him. The weak grow strong here, the despairing, hopeful, and light and song refuse stubbornly to be subsumed by a world grown dark, hostile and mean. Something of Ost-in-Edhil’s aspiration and splendour are captured in its spirit, though in a softer form. His people, fading slowly from the tale of this world, are not diminished in the valley’s embrace, but fulgent and bright: undimmed. So it usually seems.
On this particular day, to Erestor, such a vision feels thin and delicate: a glass orb dropped from the hand, careening towards marble floors, waiting to shatter. Mirth is far from reach. His own sanctuary within a sanctuary, arranged just so, feels stuffy and close. He aches to be free of it. On a day such as this, however, though such a course is possible, it would not be wise.
“You were missed at council,” Elrond remarks as he crosses the threshold. “Fare you ill?”
Within these rooms Elrond has been a brother, a healer, a confidant, even a brokenhearted mess, but rarely is the Lord of Imladris seen within: he leaves his silver circlet at the door, metaphorically speaking. Today he comes as a friend. Erestor does not conceal from Elrond what he hides, at least in part, from most. Elrond has seen him at his worst and needs no shielding. “I have had better days.”
Night time version :)
It doesn’t show up well in the pic but the moon, stars and the tree tops have glittery paint
This…this is beautiful
