I don't do discourse in general, but especially not on this blog. That doesn't mean I dont have opinions, im just not going to argue with you about them.

fic where the corries learn that they’re legally allowed to do courses and get degrees when the commanders are required to get degrees in order to legally file a lot of the paperwork crossing their desk and authenticate arrests and stuff.

They sign up for interrelating minors after the first degree.

a lot of it is stuff they already studied in their training, so Fox and Thorn are working on spPHDs while doing all of their other duties.

this is all completely unremarked upon until someone in the clone fan messageboards finds one of Fox’s essays and has enough knowledge on the subject is like ‘guys this is really good, and ow, the chancellor’s ears must have burned when he submitted this, because damn’

clone fans being what they are, the other work by the other corries is gone over with a fine tooth comb, but it’s not really noticed other than that.

until fox ends up doing an art history course or something, and Jocasta Nu is actually the professor in charge.

he has to come in for some of the lectures so the students can properly experience the works in question, and they’re in the archive. He also shares classes with jedi younglings on top of the coruscanti locals and core world galactic students.

he also, for the first time, has a group project that isn’t allowed to just be done over the comms. presumably because the jedi younglings have these kinds of classes on their schedules so they can be socialised with non-jedi in a safe environment.

Fox isn’t aware but like three new people have declared fox one of their friends

Fox’s final assignment for that course is actually the one that really blows up despite him submitting several thesis by that time eviscerating the new mandalorian government, mereel’s supercommando codex (because fuck you jango, your dad is smart but not an untouchable god), and the republican senate. but the art history course is where he discusses several priceless-because-they’re-fucking-illegal-to-own-sheev pieces in the chancellor’s office and apartments.

he submits the paper just before he makes the arrest, which he has the authority to do both because he has the necessary qualifications, and because sheev made him a high general in the GAR so he could do more of his paperwork.

some characters just need to run away from their current circumstances and survive (just barely) on the streets or in the wilderness for a while, you know? i don't think it's necessarily the most efficient path to healing and it's certainly not the least painful/traumatic one but sometimes a character has been so stripped of agency and you just want to see them run away and forcibly shift their genre to survival thriller......

You guys have to understand that having a literal teenager with no military experience share your rank or out rank you had to piss the clones off soooo bad.

And I don't mean "oh no look at this poor kid who doesnt know what they're doing 😥" I mean "why the HELL does this kid get to order me around?! They know literally nothing, have no training, and are. Actually. 11 years old. WHAT THE FUCK?!!"

Random headcanon but: a clone using another clone's designation (if he has a name) is considered super rude, especially among the Jedi's legions. If a clone has a name, you always use it. But on Coruscant, names aren't safe—not that the GAR knows this. So the GAR uses names but the Guard is exclusively using numbers. GAR troopers think the Guard is rude/stuck up. Are they really so attached to protocol that they won't even use another trooper's name? The Guard uses the GAR trooper's numbers and that's horribly rude for them. The Guard, on the other hand, thinks the GAR is incredibly reckless. Using names where natborns can hear? Not a good idea. They're gonna get everyone in trouble.

And the Jedi, of course, call the clones by their names. Some know about the cultural thing, others just think like "of course we'd use their names????" So they'll coax the Guard into giving their names--and for the Guard, that's a massive invasion of privacy. Names are something very intimate for the Guard, so the Jedi's attempt at kindness and respect only makes them look like massive jerks.

I am suddenly immensely endeared by the idea of Rocky guessing in the dark which very-specific human topics would be most comforting to Grace to discuss, and 100% completely whiffing it every single time, but going so far down internet (well, internet-snapshot courtesy of Stratt) rabbit holes that he ends up more informed than Grace on a wide variety of Earth subjects in which Grace has zero personal interest.

The conversation pictured here proceeded slowly and painfully for about 20 Earth minutes, before it dawned on both participants that neither of them actually cared about the Red Sox or even Earth sports in general really, and only one of them - Rocky - actually possessed any Red-Sox-related knowledge (for about 6 extra-confusing minutes out of the 20, Grace was treading verbal water under the impression that the Red Sox were an American Football team, before he picked up on some context clues and course-corrected).

Yeah I do think that the fandoms attitude towards shaak-ti is strange, I think labelling a woman as a Mother Figure to All Clones is weird just because she was sent to Kaimino and is nice to them. Almost every jedi you see is nice to clones. But Shaak-ti is the mother because people can’t bother to think of other personality traits to give her that aren’t directly related to the men in her life. Idk, engage with her character more. A woman who does care about the well being of these clones but is always some level of separation away because they are taught to fight and die and listen to orders and she was taught every person is an individual and should be cared for. A woman that maybe desperately wants to leave Kamino and go home, but feels like she can’t. Who is talking to these kids somedays and gets struck with the reality that very very soon, they will probably all be dead. A woman who is over watching the raising and caretaking of actual death fodder who probably won’t have rights when the war ends.

just. If you’re going to interact with her maybe give her a little more thought than just ‘a mother’.
