Jace thought they would check out the new bistro after passing by the place multiple times and letting curiosity get the best of them. They hadn’t been able to explore in a while courtesy to their school work but they were glad their load had gradually lessened as summer came around. Jace entered with a bright, examining smile. They didn’t know where to start so as much as they hated awkwardness, they decided to turn to the nearest person and ask. “First timer here. What do you think’s the best on the menu?” They asked, hoping to sound friendly.
Brows knitted, Shane glanced up from his copy of Sense And Sensibility while his mouth was full with chunks of a churro. He had been enjoying his free time and making sure no one would give him shit for choosing to stay here while others were going all out with their vacations. He’d rather know this place better, the brit wasn’t much of an adventurer afterall. He closed his page after dog-earing it, his lips forming a reluctant smile in the process. “Churros.” Redness started to form on his cheeks. “And the macarons, definitely. If you’re into sweets.” He sounded so dumb, didn’t he. So much for trying to look smart with a book on his lap. A for poor effort, Shane.
samanthcalcott:
The entirety of the march, she’d had her sister’s arms loosely around her shoulders to ensure that she wouldn’t be thrashed around by the over-roused crowd, up until she reached the point where she could observe everything with a clearer view—she could see the floats, the bright colors and flagrant display of ardor and joyfulness from there. Still, it was a little too packed as an elbow collided with her arm and after she told her sister to step back a bit, maybe look for a safer place, Sam took a deep breath and mustered enough courage to inquire the person a few inches away from where she was. “Hey, uh. Sorry,” she began, hoping her voice could be heard, “is there anywhere less–crowded around here? It’s getting a bit suffocating for me.” She should’ve stayed at one of those fairs.
Shane fully considered himself to be a shy person. He could be social and vocal if needed to be but he was generally a pretty quiet guy, hence his apparent lack of enthusiasm as he looked around the march. It was an experience for sure but he could understand why some people thought it could be a little bit overbearing. Still, he didn’t want to back down as easily. With a flag wrapped around his arm, Shane pushed through the crowd only to come face to face with a girl who seemed to be just as lost as he was. It was a relief. “Don’t know but I definitely could use a breather.” The brit said with soft laughter, stepping back. “Maybe you and I should turn back a little? There should be a few empty corners around.”

Keegan: Can you come and bring me 1?
Shane: Woww that's a bit dangerous whoever you are
Shane: I'm sorry who are you????

“You ever imagine yourself in Paris, drinking a glass of rosé, sitting on a terrace? While the love of your life makes you toast and brings it out with a pomegranate and you touch his abs and then–” She held onto the empty cup, Sharpie marker in hand. “Nevermind. I’m getting ahead of myself. Anyways, I’ll try not to spell your name wrong this time.”
With exams gearing to a close, it was safe to say Shane had been feeling a little more placid and a lot less like a convulted mess. There was something about the area that made him wary still but with each passing day the Brit felt like he was beginning to be able to find his footing. One thing he learned was some of the New Yorkers could be as rude as those living in his old ‘hood but he was never one to generalize and he still had faith in the upcoming presence of the more approachable bunch. There were definitely a great amount of unique crowd and this barista just happened to be one of them. Shane offered a smile, anxiety was still obvious when he adressed her words. “Who hasn’t?” The brit spoke, his accent deep. “Though pomegranate makes me a little sick. I’d say something as light as Earl Gray would be perfect.” His chuckle bounced through. “It’s okay. I could use the company. If it’s all right.”

Chris had always been too kind for his own good; he wanted to be nice to everyone, even if it was a stranger. “Why would I want to kidnap you?” The question was a serious one, not just rhetorical. He had no desire to keep anyone else in his apartment for any extended period of time, nor did he like the idea of sharing his space or his things, so kidnapping this kid was completely out of the question. “Besides, I’m a hundred and thirteen pounds, it’s not like it’d be hard to get away from me.”
He was sure he was about to piss his pants now. He just kept babbling out the wrong things to say. “Because-because I look like a child-child. I don’t know, I’m sorry. I think I’m just overly cautious.” Shane had been made fun of a lot during his early teenage years. Picked on and tossed around so much it had taken the remainders of his self worth. That’s why he was so careful and needed to get drunk to talk to people. “I’m sorry.... I didn’t mean to offend you or anything.”
desert-rain:
“But, I don’t plan on having kids anyway, so…” Hattan shrugged. “I’m not exactly ‘the best people’, or at least I don’t think of myself that way. I suppose that’s a good sign?” He laughed. “Haven’t had time to watch the whole thing. I’ve been very busy and far as I can tell it looks like a whole project.” He hummed at the question. “It’s one I haven’t watched in years,” he said, going for enigmatic.
“Aaaaand why not? Lots of people seem to be drunk on the concept of having children. Picket fence family, stuff.” Shane bobbed his head to the side. He felt sicklish already but he didn’t want to chase this man away. “I’m not one of those best people either but I still think I deserve to explore space mostly because I know things about the milky way and planets.” He said. “Not exactly a movie buff?”
desert-rain:
“I think they shouldn’t allow just anyone to be parents, and the same tests should apply to people who want to be part of relatively harmonious space colonies. You feel me?” He laughed a little. “Yeah, mainstream here is kind of interesting. I’ve heard briefly about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for example.”
“Of course I feel you.” Shane didn’t, at all, he was almost too drunk to function but he was nodding along the man’s words. All he could think was going to the space without any added politics or rules there. “Only the best people. Like you and I.” Shane said, nodding. “Briefly? Are you kidding? It’s like one of the biggest things here. Or the world. It’s huge. Nothing is brief bout any of that, no, son.” He said with a swing of his fingers. “What’s your favorite movie?”
kniifetrick:
Chris wasn’t usually this nice, especially not to strangers - but this kid seemed like he was a bit panicked, and he didn’t want to make that worse. He knew how it felt to be in that situation and wouldn’t want someone making it worse for him. “Jesus, if you can give me the address or something, maybe I could help you get there or -” He dropped his cigarette on the ground, putting it out with the toe of his shoe. “I could take you back to my place or something until you figure our a way to get where you’re going - I don’t live far from here, just a few more blocks.”
Shane didn’t quite know if he should trust this guy. The offer seemed so abrupt to him even though it had been inescapable given the student’s distress and he started to stutter more. Would it be stupid to just go with the latter idea? Although careful Shane was also a really curious being. He wanted to know where this was going to take him. His tongue felt bitter, when he spoke his words he immediately regretted ever opening his mouth in the first place. “How do I know you aren’t going to kidnap me?” Shane quickly closed his eyes, over and over calling himself stupid under his breath. “I mean maybe I could.. just sit here, call an Uber or something and-and wait with you.”
nickdnw:
A laugh bubbled past his lips, not out of disregard moreso a fulgering nostalgia. His remark made Nick think of the easier times where effort meant coursing through his stack of homeworks instead of filling papers for the safety of his well-being —- of course it had felt just as complex back in his younger days but he couldn’t help considering how much of a drama queen he had been then. “Sure sure, all students should at least get the kudos for trying. I’ve seen a few who didn’t even bother to fully participate their duties. You’re good. Admirable, even.” Nick responded, smiling. “It’s okay. You’re already on my good side.”
Shane didn’t really wait around to widen his anxious grin, short compliment was a compliment still and he sought for them like a dog wanting to be petted by their owner. It was even better knowing that the man was a known person, in Shane’s case it made him feel more validated. That was what he liked to do the most: Seek validation. “I’m-I’m really glad. I try my best, it’s not as easy as it sounds I-I I have finals, coming up.” Shane was a little unsure but then he trailed his fingertips along the metal. “Wow.” He was amazed. “This is... something.”
kniifetrick:
The area definitely wasn’t the greatest; it was where Chris used to stop to get coke, knowing that there was usually a dealer in the general vicinity, but he’d been clean for two months now and just wanted to smoke in peace. He was afraid that this kid was a dealer, but upon hearing him speak it was pretty obvious that he was just some scared little kid. “Calm down.” He flicked the ash off the end of the cigarette and took another drag, just watching the boy for a moment - just to be sure, to feel confident that he wasn’t going to be hurt or anything like that. “Where are you trying to go that’s got you so lost, then?”
It wasn’t a demand and the stranger was actually being kind but Shane couldn’t help feeling another tick of anxiety when he told him to calm down, like he had done something wrong. He bit on his bottom lip like the stinging could help him relax. “I’m sorry.. it’s just that this place is making me feel quite nervous.” The boy said with a weary chuckle, most embarrassed by his own behaviour. “I was headed to my friend’s apartment but the usual route was more jammed than usual so I thought it’d be a good idea to explore and find another way.” He said, shaking his head. “That was stupid. I’ve been going around for-for hours now, I’m sure.”
dawsynisms:
“it’s great. my troublemaker is just being extra asshole-ish today because she’s mad that her sister gets a binky and she doesn’t,” dawsyn said with a shrug. was it frowned upon to call her daughter an asshole? absolutely. but everyone knew toddlers were jerks and honestly, she’d heard people call their own kids worse. “but it’s mine,” joey said. “no it’s not, i threw all of yours away. not all purple binkies are yours, now stop going on about it or i’ll call your aunt heather,” dawsyn. “i don’t care, aunt heather gives me ice cream,” the three-year-old said, emitting an eye roll from her mother. “she’s definitely my kid, all that sass.”
Shane shifted a bit uncomfortably, he didn’t know if this was bad parenting or not but his own parents had never called him an asshole before so it was quite a surprise. “Seems like she’s a really-um-um, she’s really a tough kid. Isn’t it kind of harsh though? I mean uhhh, sure it’s not my place to judge.” He said, running his fingers through his short hair. “Is she always like this?”
desert-rain:
“Yeah, that’d be good. Save up to move off world when it becomes possible. I can’t blame you for doing that, but I’m afraid the one thing you can’t escape is shitty people. They’re everywhere.” He laughed a little. “Not the kind of movies you’re familiar with. Though I’m sure you wouldn’t recognize Egyptian cinema very well, either, so…”
“Okaaaaay. That’s so true. Maybe they should hold a few tests and not allow everyone, yanno? I wouldn’t want people like Trump to board the journey They would ruin everything.” He said, with a shake of his head. “Egyptian? No. No-no. I’m uh. Bad with classic movies, you could say. I just follow the mainstream ones now-a-days.”
nickdnw:
“Had to cost me couple of bruises just like I said, but ‘sides those. Free.” Not really a complex deed for someone who thought of himself as a daredevil, his life had been poured with life-and-death situations that he started to no longer fear the latter. So many times he had grown the temptation to walk out but he’d turn around to tell his own brains he was not a god damn quitter. That worked in most circumstances, if not having his eyes shut through most ordeals was also efficient. “You gotta earn your shit, kid. Takes pain to fulfil what you wanted and enjoy it to its fullest.” Nick smirked, a glint in his eyes. “Though in this case if you keep up with the compliments you might even get a free ride.”
“Right.” Shane blushed, knowing he should have listened more clearly but it was also quite obvious he was anxious. That was his state on most days, he was just thankful his fingers hadn’t decided to twiddle around and make him look more like a timid child. He already felt small ; standing between the muscular man and his muscular vehicle. “Well. I constantly deal with the pain of studying and putting a lot effort, maybe too much effort into it. So.” He said, chuckling. “Really? I wouldn’t want to taint your-your bike.”
kniifetrick:
Chris hadn’t been back in New York for long - two days, barely enough time for him to get unpacked and settled into his new apartment, but he’d done it. He’d never moved on his own, the last time had been with Cory and the time before that had been with his first husband. During hsi time away, he’d been through some intense therapy-type shit with his mother, dealt with divorce, court dates, and having his girls taken away. This was all different; he was alone now, and had a new job, signed on with an escort agency - a bit more professional than his stripping previously, as well as a bit more legal than his previous side hustles. He’d just finished up with an out-call and was on his way home, but decided to stop for a cigarette on his way in - it had been a few hours since he’d had one, so at this point he was getting antsy. “Can I help you?” He asked, looking up once he noticed someone looking at him and blowing out a slow cloud of smoke. “I’m kinda busy here.”
The british boy had always been very disorganized, that much was obvious. Though he had stayed in the city for more than a year he still had a hard time trying to remember places or familiar corners. For the third time this week, he had gotten himself lost. He was wrapped in a thick hoodie, his short bangs he tried to tidy up continuously with his fingers. He felt unnerved, this didn’t seem like the safest spot on the block. He couldn’t help letting his eyes drift and that’s when he saw someone returning the stare. “Oh-oh. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean-mean to. I’m sorry.” Shane stuttered, his accent dripping. “I’m just a little lost.”
dawsynisms:
“listen brat,” dawsyn said as she grabbed a pacifier out of her three-year-old’s hand. “if you take it away from her one more time i’m gonna bust your ass. be nice to her, she’s a baby.” joey scoffed and stomped a foot, crossing her arms. “i want mine back!” she whined. “you’re almost four years old, you don’t need a damn binky,” dawsyn said, leaning over the stroller she was pushing to pop the pacifier in her youngest daughter’s mouth. just as she stood herself back up, she quickly swerved the stroller to the side to avoid running into the person in front of her. “sorry — sorry, i wasn’t paying attention, i was distracted.”
Getting dragged into the middle of a confrontation no matter how small it might seem had always been one of Shane’s greatest horrors, since he was a passive person and he would rather stay in a place where he could feel at peace. Though he didn’t feel like he could shy away from this one. He cringed when the young woman turned into his direction, quickly he tried to put up a polite expression. “Um-no-no. No. It’s okay. Is everything alright with eh, your kids?”
nickdnw:
“Look at this shiny thing down here, isn’t she the sexiest? Got it in the old twenty-twelve, Year of The Apoc, the demand was to ride through these hot flames and we had a bet with the boys, whoever came out most harmed would win the ride. Had few bruises, broken teeth, stitches but let me tell you. I don’t regret a second of it.” Sacrificing the fear of sounding over enthusiastic and even slightly creepy, Nick let his hand hover along the slick body of his motor bike. His eyes were shining with pride. “Can touch if you want but please, do make sure your hands are very very clean.”
“It’s-it’s, it’s beautiful.” Shane was a little anxious to touch what wasn’t his, feeling there was too much at stakes. The bike looked cool but he wouldn’t to get it dirty or even worse broken. He couldn’t ever afford the money to pay for the debt. His fingers knotted with one another. “Did-did they just give you like that? For free?”
