Someone should entertain Caliban
@verbisdiablc
Caliban had made a terrible mistake. He seemed to be awfully good at making terrible mistakes. This time, the mistake was believing that he could return to the life he once had before he came to be Victor’s. He thought that he could be the man that he used to be. He thought that he would find happiness there, because his life as Victor’s creature was filled with so much sorrow. It had been foolish to believe these things. He’d only created more chaos and done more damage than good. That was all he was good for. Sorrow would follow him wherever he went. He had no home. So he returned to the streets that he knew. This was the place Victor had given him this immortal life. It seemed only logical to return. He had no one. He couldn’t go to Victor. He couldn’t go to Vanessa. He’d only cause more harm. It was best for him to be alone. He’d caused enough damage already. Everything hurt. He wished Victor had never given him life. He wished that he could not feel anything. He nearly bumped into someone on the street, vision blurring with tears that he quickly tried to wipe away. “I’m sorry,” he apologized quickly. When he realized who it was, he tried to hide behind the collar of his coat.
I feel exquisite pleasure in dwelling on the recollections of childhood, before misfortune had tainted my mind and changed its bright visions of extensive usefulness into gloomy and narrow reflections upon self. - Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
This is a PSA: I’m still around on this blog if anyone ever wants to RP, I just have no replies to reply to currently.

“Thank you, kind soul.”
“What about?”
“Why do you believe that I’m a good man?”
“Because if you were not, I would be dead by now, don’t you think?”
“I’ve killed people. One of them was my own kind and he was innocent. I threatened Victor repeatedly. At one time, I forced him to create another like me. I feel remorse for all of this. Except for the people I killed who tried to harm me.”
Over the bowl of steaming food, Victor watched Caliban closely, listening to him as he elaborated in words that were simple and lacked the pathos he’d used to inflict on Victor the past. Examining his mien, Victor found no duplicity, and neither did his words betray any misgivings. Yet he could not help feeling the sting of jealousy as he listened on. To think that Vanessa had forged this bond with his creature and withheld this connection from the group, from him, seemed needlessly secretive and almost suspicious. “Miss Ives is exceedingly kind and very special in ways you’d fail to imagine. She’s in grave danger and must be protected from those that mean her harm.” Victor replied meaningful, then quickly glanced away. He directed his attention to the food before him by using a piece of bread to clean his bowl. It seemed that Caliban indeed had taken a liking towards Vanessa. Perhaps, his firstborn had a soul after all. Catching himself, Victor immediately regretted his unkind thoughts. Nothing was gained by belligerence and if he’d sought a new beginning with his creation he’d better start now. He pushed the bowl aside and reached across, folding his fingers over Caliban’s on the table. So cold and smooth was the flesh, and so familiar. “She’s a worthy friend. I’m glad you found solace in her company.” Victor smiled and stood, gathering his bowl and fork, then moved to the sink. “By the way, I’ve thrown out all of Lily’s belongings. Meaning, there wont be a bed for you.” He said over his shoulder. “ So it’ll be my bed or the floor for you.”
Caliban considered for a moment what Victor said. It did make him curious what part of Vanessa he did not know about that would cause anyone to want to harm her. “If anyone tries to harm her in my company, I would protect her with my life,” he assured Victor. He wouldn’t hesitate to step in harm’s way to protect her. He viewed her life as more valuable than his. Besides, he’d already died once. If he had to do it again, protecting someone he cared about, then he would do it. It wasn’t easy to even imagine any harm befalling such a special and kind woman. If anyone deserved suffering, it was probably him much more than her. He didn’t have very many friends, only her and maybe Victor. He cherished the friendship he was fortunate enough to have.
He also cherished the feeling of Victor’s fingers touching his own. It was new to have anyone besides Vanessa purposeful make contact with him without ill intent. It was especially meaningful because it was Victor. He wanted more than anything to have a friendship with his creator. It warmed a part of him deep inside to see his creator smile at him. He smiled back, “Thank you,” he said. He was very glad to have Vanessa in his life as well. She had saved him in ways that he doubted she even realized. Her kind words and thoughtful advice helped give him hope for himself and humanity.
He was more grateful than anything to know that Victor had gotten rid of Lily’s belongings. It was always difficult to be reminded of her and what had become of her. “That will be quite sufficient for me,” he said. He would prefer a bed but would settle for the floor if he had to. He was not very picky. Just having shelter and being around Victor made him happy. He had slept in uncomfortable places before when he had to. At least he had Victor here to make it all more pleasant.
“I need to talk to you.”
“What about?”
“Why do you believe that I’m a good man?”

Caliban decided that maybe it was just the knife that unsettled him. When she explained her reasoning for having it, he couldn’t really blame her. There was nothing strange about a woman wanting to be able to defend herself on the streets. He knew what lurked in the shadows. It was smart of her to carry a weapon. He hoped that she didn’t think he was one of the things she must be afraid of. She didn’t seem to mind his appearance so far. He smiled and chuckled in a friendly way. “Yes, very true,” he agreed. “I understand. I have to say, I think you are too beautiful to stay inside though. This world can always use more beauty in it.”
Hecate let a chuckle pass her lips as well. “You flatter.” And so he did. So much so, her laugh and near shy behaviour were almost genuine. “Now I do have to ask, are you simply kind spirited or did I do something special to deserve such lovely words?” Hazel gems moved to meet his yellow, he was truly something else. She had met many strange people in her time, but no one quite like this man. And while his scars were impossible to overlook, his eyes were striking; kind. “What do they call you, if I may ask?”
Caliban gave a shy smile. He wasn’t used to this type of attention. Not very women ignored his scars and called him kind. Most people thought he was a freak and ran the other way when they saw him. It was refreshing. “My name is Caliban,” he told her. “I suppose I am kind spirited but you do seem quite special.”
Caliban appreciated the compliment but he was unsure how true it was. “I’ve killed people,” he said. “I forced Victor to steal you from the embrace of death. I am… conflicted. I now have memories of the person I once was. I do not know how I should feel regarding this new knowledge.”
“Did you remember things you wish had stayed forgotten?” She was familiar with the feeling.
“Yes,” Caliban confessed. “I wish it had all stayed forgotten. I do not want to remember any of it.”
“Humor? My dear sir, I have not a humorous bone in my body. I swear upon my life that I do not know you.” he stepped back warily, memories of his creation flooding to his mind. For a second, Victor Frankenstein lost himself in the horrendous memories, shaking himself out of them quickly. “I must go. I know not who you are and I can’t trouble myself to find out.”
Caliban grabbed onto Victor’s coat. “You will not run from me,” he demanded. “You created me. You can’t run.” He was angry that Victor was doing this to him. He would not get rid of him this easily.
“Do you think I’m a good person?”
There’s a short pause before she gives an answer. “You have your… imperfections, but you are better than most men I have met.“
Caliban appreciated the compliment but he was unsure how true it was. “I’ve killed people,” he said. “I forced Victor to steal you from the embrace of death. I am... conflicted. I now have memories of the person I once was. I do not know how I should feel regarding this new knowledge.”
its confusion that the man feels upon glancing upon the other figure. a frown appears upon his youthful face and he fiddles with leather gloves on his hands for the briefest second. “I do apologize, but i know not who you are.”
“Is this your idea of humor?” Caliban demanded, confused. “I don’t understand why you are doing this. Is it another attempt to remove from your life?” Did Victor believe that by pretending not to know him that he would just go away? Surely he was smarter than that.
