In today’s chapter of “I hate men”: I feel really bad because my friend said she and her husband are considering separation. Why? Because, despite my friend making it clear before they got married that she didn’t want kids, her husband has suddenly turned around like “ok I changed my mind tho :/ so give me a kid.” I’ve seen women online talk about this happening to them, too, and it’s every child-free woman’s nightmare: you make it abundantly clear you don’t want kids, the guy acts like he agrees and respects that, you fall in love and build a life with him, only for him to pull the rug out from under you and either demand you adopt a lifestyle you already said you never wanted, or he’ll leave you because he values a non-existent child over you. And it’s so easy for these men to insist their female partners change their minds because these fuckers aren’t the ones who’d be carrying the thing for 9 months, or going through childbirth, and let’s be real: they see having a kid as no big deal because they know their lifestyle won’t change much, as a man. They’ll still get to go out and play Xbox with their buddies and have a complete life outside of their kid because they’re fully anticipating their wife doing 90% of the childcare.

It just really sucks for my friend, and it makes you feel like you can’t ever trust a man will take you seriously when you say “no, you cannot use my body in this way and I will not adopt this lifestyle for you.” They’ll always hold out hope you’ll accept women’s ultimate role in the patriarchy as Mother
