stop sharing videos of cops kneeling or marching, that is not the point and is as good as saying not all cops or all lives matter. this protest is to highlight police brutality, sharing these videos is police propaganda to subdue anger toward police violence and are simply performative gestures with no real action backed by them
before you share that video of a black person being murdered as a result of white violence for “awareness”
Consider this: people say that sharing these images of black people/poc thrown on the floor, being shot, and killed and dying helps spread awareness but a false narrative that only dehumanizes black people and normalizes violence against POC while enabling the idea of black criminality. Perhaps if this was a rare occurrence then I would agree, but these aren’t isolated. In just the last week and a half, we’ve had stories circulated about Breona Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and now George Floyd, and sadly there will be more. But before this, we already had Trayvon Martin, Sandra Bland, Philandro Castile, Tamir Rice, Mike Brown, Eric Garner, and the deaths just go on endlessly. So if in spite of all this, people still need to see violence enacted on black people to believe us saying “we are being murdered” they are frankly, just racist, and need deep therapeutic help.
It also begs why an assumption of guilt is automatically placed on black people until proof of innocence when really it should be the other way around– and I wonder just how much death is needed then, how much do POC have to suffer before white people are convinced that yeah, tbh this is bad. Like after all these deaths, people still need to be convinced?? Yikes. Personally, hearing that Brona Taylor was an essential worker, an EMT, and seeing her in uniform does more to stir something in me than if a video of her being shot 8 times was widely circulated. All that does is belittles her to that one act of violence. It’s disrespectful and not right. And ultimately, it just can’t be argued that we simply do not ever see white people’s deaths depicted so freely like that. Like my previous example, we don’t prevent drunk driving by showing clips of dead drivers hanging out the windows. So tbh to me, sharing those sorts of images doesn’t do anything but harm and is distasteful and traumatic. People who need to see it are already lost.
Consider this:
“Sharing these images for “awareness” is a false narrative, one that only works to dehumanize black people, traumatize your black friends, and normalize violence against people of color while enabling the idea of black/brown criminality.”
We’re friends but you don’t need to know everything about me
All the collabs, with art by me & words submitted by some lovely people! Writing by: @realisticflyinglesbian, @clementinen, @tevos, Alex Okay, Álvaro Rodríguez, @life-of-illusions, Marik Thexton, @littletimeforanythingelse, Emily Arlein, Lou Woods
posted this already on ig but - we’re doing these collabs again! rules: 1. It has to be your original writing. As to what type of writing it is, it’s up to you. A snippet of a diary entry, poem, memory, flash fiction, song etc. It can be in any laguage! You can send multiple pieces. If it’s something longer I usually pick a smaller part of it to use in the artwork. 2. Submit via email to [email protected]. No submissions via DMs, I need to have it all in one place. Pls include in your email how you’d like to be credited in the actual artwork when i sign it, and if you want to be tagged when i post it (it can be anonymous). ~ Submissions will be open until March 28. I will pick at least 7 entries. I look forward to reading what you send!
writers, poets! reblog this with your social media handles. I’m mainly on IG, sometimes twitter, but I want to follow y’all. It’s annoying the atmosphere social media has built where we are more concerned with followers than connection - so anyway reblog this post so I can follow you and let’s be writing friends

Day 4 of 365: Just write, slow and steady
Need more writeblrs that post frequent original content!
The last time I made this post it got a lot of steam by a lot of people who didn’t post original content, or very rarely did. My dash is getting a bit meme-heavy so if you post often about yours or other people’s wips please reblog this so I can check you out!
(Also people note my username; I had quite a few raging homophobes reblog this last time around)
