Carol is old and sensible enough to know just how ridiculous eavesdropping is - especially if the person you’re spying on is Natasha Romanoff -, so instead of staring and listening in on the other woman’s phone call, the blonde turned her back and concentrated on the view. She waited diligently until the call seemed to come to an end, and then turned around slowly, straightening her posture as she studied the look on Natasha’s face. “That sounded interesting”, Carol stated simply; she had no idea what the call had been about, but it had sounded very intense. Of course, the word could have been used to describe most aspects of their everyday life.
Carol’s determined attempt not to eavesdrop makes Natasha smirk despite herself. “Mostly just repetitive.” She shrugs, but the stress of the last month is written subtly over her features. The disaster at the press conference has provided a lot of extra work for a lot of the team, especially considering it was one of their own who shot another one of their own. Natasha’s been working with SHIELD to gather evidence in Sharon’s defense, but HYDRA’s been as difficult as ever, and on its own, brainwashing is a difficult plea in court. She wants this all to be over- better yet, she wants it to never have happened, but it seems as though neither of those things are within the current realm of possibility. “If I had a dime for every time they expected me to have intel, I’d have enough money to buy the entire justice system off.”
