He leant backwards at first as she reached out to undo the sail, but he stopped himself and leant forwards to allow her. “I’m sorry, but I’m glad you don’t remember much from it. I’m afraid I don’t have the same privilege.” Galadir kept his eyes on her hands as she untied the sail, revealing the torn skin around his neck from the wire, which he had thankfully managed to remove, and the tiny stump that was left on his shoulder. “I couldn’t save the others…” he said quietly, “I don’t know how many got away..”
Ariel winced, both at the wound as she unraveled the sail around his neck as well as his words. She couldn’t imagine being attacked like that, and not knowing if who you were with survived. “Is there any way I can help you try and get into contact with them? Are there places you used to meet up that you can check for them, safe places?” She examined his wound with a grimace. It was bad. He was missing an arm, after all. How he had survived the blood loss, she wasn’t sure, but he was incredibly lucky. “I think you need to see a doctor. Do you know one? I can take you to one not too far from here...”

He grinned, “sure do, you’re a cute little froggy.” He leant down and kissed her, using the large plush toy he was holding for her to block people from seeing them kiss, his free hand lightly wrapping around her neck to pull her into a deep kiss before letting go and pulling away. “You’ve got five more minutes before we pay and go find somewhere to sit, my leg needs to stretch.” He told her with a smile.
Ariel grinned wide at his compliment, but then he was kissing her. Really kissing her. As if to say This is all more than okay. As if to say You are safe with me. As if to say I will take care of you. Maybe it was all in Ariel’s head, maybe she was making it up. It wouldn’t be the first time. But something about Kid felt much more sure, much more steady than any relationship she’d had before. Like she didn’t have to constantly question herself, or the state of things. She could count on the fact that she wanted him and he wanted her, at the very least, for now. She kissed him with a hum of content, sighing happily and dreamily and just enjoying the moment before he pulled away. “Oh! Okay! Five minutes - I can do that!” She took off the frog hat and put it on the stuffie for now. “Thank you for letting me know.” Ariel pressed one more kiss to his lips before skipping off, taking faster glances at the different shelves and picking out various little things that caught her eye. When she was done she brought them through the register with giddy excitement, the feeling of being spoiled again but this time by a romantic partner making her beyond happy. She felt so, so cared for. “Thanks again, Daddy,” she said after they had walked away, taking most of the bags so that he could rest when they stopped at a nearby bench.

He laughed at the comment. He wished he was a human space heater. That would probably make him a better boyfriend prospect. He could just warm whoever it was up and they’d be thankful that he wasn’t a popsicle when it came to body temperature.
“Not so much. But, I do have this sweater on.” He tugged on the fabric. “And it’s incredibly soft and fluffy. So I’m thinking that might help take the edge of the cold weather off if you come get a hug.”
Mary Jane shook her head at him, amused. He was cute, in that boyish sort of way that she liked. It made her a little more willing to actually step into his arms, putting her own around his torso. “Thank goodness for your incredibly soft and fluffy sweater then, huh?” she teased, relaxing her head on his chest. He was right, he was nice and warm.

Galadir couldn’t help his pale eyes wandering over Ariel and down the length of her tail, she was even brighter in the light. At her question he looked at his shoulder, his arm gone. “Humans.” He stated simply, allowing her to get even closer to him. “They sent a bubble into the depths, it made flashes and we didn’t know if it was going to hurt us so we swam up.” He was talking about a robotic mini sub with a camera, they had never breached the depths before. “Humans were there, they caught us…” He referenced more than one being caught, but he was here alone.
Ariel made her way tentatively closer until it was clear to see... there was no arm underneath the sail around his neck. The blood from his shoulder most likely came from the wound that took it. His explanation for what had happened absolutely broke her heart. Humans... they could be so unbelievably cruel. But... they could also be so wonderful. It was hard to know which ones to trust sometimes. “My mother... was killed by humans,” she responded, and moved to reach out and undo his sail, if he allowed her. “I was little.. I don’t really remember the details, but... I’m sorry. For what you’ve gone through...”

He took the stuffy and smiled at the kiss, “you can reward me by being a good girl for daddy~” he said, showing her that he was more than okay with being called daddy by calling himself it. He kissed her head before wandering after her as she looked around the rest of the store. He picked up a frog hat and snuck up behind Ariel before putting it on her head with a small laugh.
His words made Ariel feel all tingly and she wasn’t sure if she was just feeling aroused or in love. Either way, she was happy, grin wide as she reached to squeeze his hand before looking around at the rest of the shelving units. When he surprised her with something on her head, she looked up at him with big blinks. “Yeah? Do I look cute, Daddy?” She tested out the word again now that he had used it, too, feeling a bit more comfortable.

He shook his head, “I can do it myself.” He didn’t answer the second question, edging closer to an exit, taking his eyes off the pair briefly to stick his head out of the hole to check it was safe before swimming out, his silver scales reflecting the light as he swam out into it. It took the pale merman a few moments to adjust to the light, swimming over to the broken mast and ‘sitting’ on it, his tail wrapping around the wood, his decorative fins suddenly resembling white seaweed, a natural disguise.
Now that he was out in the light, the torn sail that wrapped around his neck and around his shoulder were stained with old blood, his injuries very clearly existent. By wrapping his tail around the mast he was indicating that he wasn’t going to swim away if she approached him.
Ariel watched as the stranger moved through the water. When the light caught his tail, it shone so beautifully, but bright. Ariel thought about how dangerous it could be. A defense mechanism, maybe. Staring through the hole, she and Flounder watched as he found somewhere to sit. Only then did Ariel venture out. As she got closer, it was clear to see why he’d been avoiding her question about whether or not he was hurt. She could see the blood by his shoulder clearly now, the light illuminating more than just his scales. “Your arm...” she winced, rubbing at her own. “What happened?”
