“I’m honestly not sure. But I’ve been afraid since the day I was born, so perhaps I’ve just grown used to the feeling.” There weren’t many people she would openly discuss her past with, especially when it came to her life before death. In fact, there had only ever been three. Two were now buried, and Wyatt was the third. “I know,” Rosalie uttered, gaze seeking out his and holding steady. “I already use a cloaking spell to hide my magical energy. No witch should be able to detect me. I’ll stick to playing the vampire side of things. That leaves only my own kind to identify me for what I am, and I doubt they would call me out knowing the struggle that comes with our species.” At least, she was hoping they would know to use discretion. Without having ever met another heretic, she couldn’t be entirely sure. An answer to his question on the town was about to be given, but when he mentioned them leaving her mouth snapped shut. How had he not known? “Wyatt…we can’t leave Briar Creek. No supernatural can.”
𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 wyatt rarely ever felt ( he supposed that was the reason why a lot of people liked to describe him as a cold, arrogant, egocentric asshole ) but he understood why rosalie had a constant fear for her life. heretics were always at risk, it was as simple as that, but he still hated it. mismatched eyes wandered back to her face and he nodded in both, acknowledgement and agreement. “ good. i hope so. ” the vampire parted his lips and he was about to argue with her when she told him that they couldn’t leave briar creek, but then she added something that made him stare at her in disbelief and confusion. no supernatural can. “ what? ” he tried to force himself to grin while he waited for her to burst into laughter for getting him like that. “ you are joking, right? ” it had to be a joke. “ rosalie... please tell me this is your version of belated april fools. ”
The resolve in his voice was just enough to truly make her believe him. Enough to remind her that he wouldn’t let anything happen to her, that he never had if he’d been able. Moving back to her desk, she curled up on her chair, knees drawn close to her chest where her chin would rest upon them. She still had a fair bit of work to get done, but what could be the harm in simply taking it home? She was far more exposed here, though perhaps being in such a public place would deter any possible attacks. Thoughts she never expected to have to sort out. “I don’t think I know what a life without semblance of fear is like, but I’ll try to keep it to a healthy level,” she teased weakly, doing her best to pick up the mood. Something she’d grown more than accustomed to doing with a life such as the one she’d led. “You’re the only person I truly trust, Wyatt.” A statement laced with more emotion than she had any right to feel towards him. And yet…she couldn’t seem to turn it off. “Trust is far too important to simply be given away. I may be soft, but I’m not so naive as to not know that.”
𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 be afraid and the fact that she was bothered wyatt more than he could say. sure, their immortality was only an illusion and all lives could be taken, but if someone deserved feeling and being safe it was rosalie. “ is there a healthy level for that? ” he mumbled through clenched teeth after he took another step forward, closer to the desk. “ i am not calling you naive. all i am asking is for you to be more cautious, at least for a little while. ” his internal struggle was clear to be seen on his features: he shook his head and fought to bite his tongue, but the words escaped him anyway. “ i couldn’t bear losing you too. ” hell, it would have been difficult to lose her, even if dorothea never died. “ why this place, rose? ” he sighed. “ can’t we just pack our bags and find somewhere else? anywhere else? this is not the only university that would accept you as a professor. ” so why would she stay here, in a potential war zone?
“This better be good.” he sighs, rubbing his eyes as he lets go of a yawn. “Did you at least bring food?” he’d spent most of the day sleeping, eating and topping it off with a nap, to be in any sort of loop of what was happening outside. “Is it already night out? Shit.” with that, he grabs a hold of the half smoked zoot and lights it before sitting up on the couch, his focus finally shifting to the person in front. “Food?”
𝐰𝐲𝐚𝐭𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 when he heard that question as soon as he entered the room, but he dangled two brown paper bags in front of the male’s eyes to confirm it. “ yeah. how late did you think it is? ” the vampire muttered while he turned to place the food on the table. “ are you going to tell me why i had to play the delivery guy for you? ”
If it hadn’t been Wyatt, if it had been anyone else, she likely would’ve continued to spiral. There was a trust there she didn’t share with anyone else, at least not anymore. Not since…no. She was already going dark enough as it was, and she refused to open up a door that only led to more pain. She instead chose to focus on his voice, on his hands holding her arms to stop her from bouncing around the room in a frenzy. It was hard not to suck in a breath when his hand moved to her chin, to not feel a hint of guilt that she wanted him to never let her go. To not feel shame at how she wished they could be more than what they were. “I don’t want to die,” was all she could manage, the fear far more real now that she was being forced to face the very real possibility of it. There was a coldness as he pulled away, forcing her to wrap her arms around herself to try and get back that comfort. An attempt made in vain. “If I can’t assume ignorance, and I can’t assume they know…what’s the happy medium to that? I can’t just live in a constant state of paranoia.”
𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐞 was a necessity, not a choice: his eyes had dropped to her lips the moment she sucked in a breath and who knows what would have happened if he stayed close to her? there was nothing wrong with proximity between two, consenting adults and yet... how could he allow himself to be close to her of all people? the only person dorothea loved as much as she loved him. the vampire walked to the window and he crossed his arms while he leaned against it, but he finally glanced back at the redhead when she told him that she didn’t want to die. it made him sigh deeply and he forced himself to move closer to her once again. “ you are not going to die. ” he wanted to go on and tell her that he would do anything in his power to keep her alive, but he bit down on his tongue and stopped himself. a promise like that came close to admitting the truth about one, not so simple thing --- maybe he could have protected dot too. but he had been too distracted to do that. “ i'm not asking you to live in constant fear. you shouldn’t. ” he told her, his voice roughened up by his thoughts. “ i'm asking you to look out for yourself. to understand that some people might not have your best interest at heart. don’t trust easily. that is the happy medium. ” or at least he hoped it was.
Mina turned to look at him. Vampire. Wyatt. When it came to her own kind, she knew all who came into town. Unfortunately for them, there was no leaving. All thanks to that witch Margrethe and her curse she placed on all supernatural here in the town. So those who came had to adjust to the town and it’s rules. Only way out of Briar Creek if you were human or DEAD. “Then why did you come here, Wyatt? Come to join?” She raised an eyebrow. “Because when something so… TRAGIC happens, people look for others to blame. Especially those easy to pin it to. After all, we, vampires, tend to get a little creative… Don’t you think?” She smiled.
𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐫 𝐧𝐨𝐭, wyatt never heard anything about the curse --- or maybe he simply didn’t pay any attention when someone warned him about it. the only reason why he cared about the death of two supernatural beings was the fact that he didn’t plan on leaving so soon. that meant he had to play the role of the concerned citizen, at least until everyone moved on. “ you know who i am. ” he mumbled to himself, narrowing his eyes at her. most leaders didn’t bother to keep an eye on the newbies. they had people doing the dirty work for them. “ i never joined any clan. ” he added, allowing his voice to return to its usual loudness. “ why would i join yours? ” it was nothing personal. wyatt wasn’t the guy that acted like vampires were one big happy family, that was all. “ they do. especially when people have a reason to be suspicious. so... do they? ”
The teasing was familiar, and it was enough to bring a smile to her lips. One that grew at the admission that he had missed her as well, but that cam crashing down at the next statement. “Why would I be high up on-” But she already knew, a realization that struck her the moment she’d even begun asking the question. Her following movements were quick as she moved to shut the door and pull the curtains across her office window. A spell was muttered to ensure they couldn’t be overheard, likely an unnecessary precaution, but the panic wan’t allowing her to think straight. “How would anyone even know about that? Wyatt, you know me. You know how hard I work to keep my species a secret.” But what if it hadn’t been enough? She was living in a town packed with supernaturals, what if one of them had figured her out and she’d been too blind or naive to see it. “I don’t…what am I…but I don’t hurt anyone….”
𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐰𝐞𝐫 her question in a way that would cushion the blow and keep her from panicking, but it seemed like it was too late for that. rosalie already shut the door and the curtains before she murmured a spell to top it all off. well done, wyatt. “ i do know that. ” but he also knew that some creatures in this town were extremely old and powerful --- and if someone managed to kill the queen of a coven and one of the oldest werewolves, they had to be quite forceful. it was safer to expect the worst. “ listen to me. rose. ” the blond stepped forward and he placed both of his hands on her arms, trying to make her focus. calm down. “ you are right. okay? there is a chance that no one knows who you are. what you are. but i’m not willing to take chances. not when it comes to your safety. ” one of his hands moved higher so he could curl a finger under her chin to make her look at him. “ you are going to be okay. i just need you to be careful. you can’t expect people not to know. not now. ” he refused to bury her next. it was a thought that made him clench his jaw and he forced himself to pull away. to turn away, hiding his expression.
“I did, and it was incredibly rude of me.” She’d been raised better than that. Not that she’d ever really had a choice, as her manners seemed to be the only thing her father had ever approved of when it came to her. Thus making them all the more vital to her survival in her childhood home. Rosalie had to swallow down the memories before her mind would allow her to continue. “It also may not have been entirely true. Yes, I am busy and have a good bit of work to get done, but not so much that I don’t have time for an old friend. Even if you didn’t expect me to welcome you, we both know it’s out of character for me not to. And despite everything, I really have missed you and I’m glad you’re here. Especially now with everything going on.”
𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐫𝐮𝐝𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐫, whether she expected a stranger or not. “ at least you are being honest with yourself. ” or maybe he was the one that needed to be honest about being in a particularly bad mood right now --- on any other day he probably would have taunted and teased her, creating weapons with her very own words... as he did in the next moment. “ so now you are rude and a liar? my, my, how things have changed. ” his lips twitched into a smirk, but it only lasted for so long. wyatt looked away from her when she told him she missed him and he cleared his throat while he nodded his head. “ yeah. yeah, i missed you too. ” more than he should have, but there was no point in admitting that. there couldn’t be. his eyes flickered back to her face and he nodded once more. “ my timing is bad, but at least you won’t be on your own. if the person that did this has a problem with supernaturals you might be high up on that hit list. ” and wyatt would be damned before he allowed anyone to touch a single hair on her head. he protected his protégés. he would protect her.
“I don’t fail the finals, I write them.” Maybe correcting him wasn’t the best place to start, but her impulsive tongue always seemed to beat out her brain for control over what she said. “Sorry, I get mistaken for a student more than I’d care to admit.” Then again, she was one of the youngest professors at the university, at least in physical terms. “And…I’m also sorry for jumping to conclusions. You’re right that I should know better, and my being on edge isn’t a valid excuse for treating you as some inconvenient stranger. We both know you’re far more than that, Wyatt.” A pause, cheeks growing soft shades of pink as the possible weight such words could carry hit her. “I only mean that, I’ve known you long enough to know you wouldn’t come here for morbid gossip. I suppose while I’m at it, I should apologize for not welcoming you to town. You deserve better than that.”
𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬? “ you said i should leave because you are too busy working on them. so what does it matter? ” whether she took them for the hundredths of times or she wrote them for her students, the core of the message stayed the same: it was an unmistakable leave me alone. “ my bad. it won’t happen again. ” wyatt replied before he groaned at his own reaction. none of this was what he pictured his time in briar creek to be like. from murders to being so close to rosalie... maybe he should have stayed away. it certainly would’ve been easier. “ we are all on the edge right now. obviously. ” the vampire sighed and then narrowed his eyes at her words, but the female already explained herself before he had the chance to say anything. “ ah. of course. ” he faked a small smile. “ and don’t worry. i didn’t expect anything like that. you said it yourself: you got too much work to get done. ”
Being leader of the ördögház’s army many have come to her in accusation. && quite frankly she was getting tired of the speculations. Hearing doors open, Mina stared at the fire without so much as to looking as who came in. “If you come here to accuse me or any of my people, I am sure you know your way out.”
𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐥 would enter someone’s quarters to throw accusations at them, so wyatt found himself rolling his eyes at the female’s assumptions. there were many things that could be said about him, but he was not a fool. “ that’s not why i came. ” he announced while he stepped inside. “ now why would i do that? hold someone responsible that i know nothing about? ”
eerika still had yet to find a solid place for herself in town, only awake for a week there were so many customs and strange things the humans did now, and supernaturals included, and she hated it. “someone was found dead?” she asked loudly, already knowing the answer, but wanting to hear it as she looked around unamused.
𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 toward the unfamiliar face and the vampire had to suppress a scoff. “ you sound so surprised. ” he only read so much about briar creek, but he knew enough to mean what he told her next: “ it’s not the first time it happened. sure as hell won’t be the last. ”
even if he stayed up late at night working, gabe would make a point to go for a run in the wee hours of the morning. he hardly slept much anyway. he was nearby when he heard the screams, smelt the bodies. gabe had been close enough that when the police arrived, they questioned him and let him go when they trusted he hadn’t seen anything, and with the help of his compulsion. gabe began to try and rush away, and bumped into someone in the crowd. a charming smile slid on his lips as he turned to the person, “sorry, can’t blame a guy for trying to get away from dead bodies, though.” he tried to jokingly cover up.
𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐟 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 failed to smell the blood that continuously dripped from the hanging bodies, it would have been impossible to ignore the chaos. there were sirens and reporters. sobs and cries. heated arguments and intimate whispers that created such noise, it almost seemed like the entire town was vibrating. it gave him a headache, but wyatt needed to see for himself. it was safer to stay in the loop --- and it would be easier to maintain his role as the innocent, caring surgeon if he showed his face and attempted to help. said attempts were put on hold, however, when the male bumped into him and he gave him a nod of his head. “ i can’t, no. although some might say that it’s highly suspicious. ” a joke, mostly. he had no idea what was happening, so anyone could be a suspect.
“Can we make this quick?” Astrids’ tone was dripping with sarcasm as she folded her arms across her chest, “I’ve got this whole netflix thing to learn, and whilst the dead bodies are absolutely terrifying I’m sure, there’s really not a whole lot I know or can do about it.”
𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠. was that what they were? the vampire had seen ( and caused ) so much death that the sight of them did nothing to him. if anything, wyatt felt a mild interest in the story --- and even that was only out of self preservation. “ do you want to talk about them? ” he questioned in a quiet, absentminded tone. “ i sure as hell don’t. we can talk about your netflix thing. ” or they could do something else entirely. who knew? who cared?
“I don’t exactly deal with death well.” She never had, following her first ripper binge. The decision to stick to animal blood had been an easy one. “So, unless you’re here to discuss next week’s exam or upcoming final papers and performances, I’m going to have to ask you to leave. I have far too much work to get done to spend time on morbid gossip.” Rosalie had seen the bodies on her way to a coffee shop during her break. A break she had immediately cut short before she resigned herself to hiding in her office with the goal of avoiding discussion on the very subject.
𝐨𝐡, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫. “ and you think that i do? ” wyatt spent nearly seven centuries on this planet, but death would never be an easy subject. not even for someone like him. he could not claim to care about the dead bodies they found hanging above the town’s square, but it certainly brought back some memories that he preferred to avoid --- then again, the same could be said about the person right across from him. every glance at those emerald green eyes and that fiery hair was a painful reminder of things he lost. of the things he couldn’t have. “ i’m not here for gossip or exams, rosalie. i thought you of all people would know me well enough to get that. ” but what was he here for? knowing that they moved to the same town was one thing, there was no need to tempt fate now, was there? “ looks like i made a mistake. i should let you get back to work. we wouldn’t want you to fail your finals, hm? ”
iliana audibly moaned at the taste of the warm crimson rushing into her mouth. she felt parched like never before and the girl drapped across her lap was just the remedy. at sensing the presence of another she lifted her head, the blonde curtain of her hair tossed over her shoulders providing a better view to whomever was unfortunate enough to interrupt her. looking from the girl still in a haze and far paler than she had been moments ago to the person before her. “pardon my manners, was this one yours?” she asked a smirk playing at the edge of her lips painted red with blood.
𝐰𝐲𝐚𝐭𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 able to smell the blood from a mile away and that meant that someone wasn’t careful enough. he rolled his eyes at her reaction after he decided to interrupt her. was it brave or stupid to feed out in the open with that kind of an attitude? he settled for stupid while he took another step into her direction, shrugging his shoulders. “ and what if i tell you she was? ” he shot back in a teasing tone. “ would you be willing to share? ”
lately our conversations end like it’s the last goodbye. then one of us gets too drunk and calls about a hundred times. so who you been calling baby? nobody could take my place. when you’re looking at those strangers, hope to god you see my face.
CIS MALE / DOMINIC SHERWOOD — is that WYATT CARTIER wandering through Briar Creek? They’ve only been here for TWO WEEKS and word around the town claims that the 26/665-year-old VAMPIRE is AUDACIOUS, but also a bit HAUGHTY. that would explain why they are usually listening to YOUNBLOOD by 5SOS. They can be found at BRIAR CREEK’S HOSPITAL as a SURGEON. Perhaps, Briar Creek, is in for another massacre? With them being ON THEIR OWN, it’s only a matter of time before blood is shed.
Past
Wyatt was born as the only child of an English noble family and they raised him with the highest of hopes and expectations for his future.
As rebellious as the young man could be, he cherished and respected his parents enough to follow their dreams. He paid close attention to his education and eventually married the noblewoman they chose for him, increasing his family’s wealth and status.
His marriage was complicated, to say the least. There was an instant, mutual respect between them, but no love. Wyatt tried, but eventually refused to see other people - at least until life forced them closer together. When his wife expected their first child she fell terribly ill and he spent every moment by her side. Their respect grew and their bond was strengthened, but they continued to be husband and wife in name, fulfilling their duties. Nothing more, nothing less.
It came as a shock for the whole family when Wyatt was diagnosed with a deadly sickness. His parents called many doctors to his side, but none of them could treat him... until they were approached by a vampire. They had their own selfish reasons, but they offered to make him feel “better than ever” and they were taken up on it. A terrible mistake, as it turns out.
While he turned willingly, Wyatt never went back to being the same man. His bloodlust seemed insatiable and he found himself forced to leave his family, trading them for a clan that was meant to teach him how to control himself.
He returned as soon as he believed that he meant no harm to his wife or children, but she pushed him as far away as possible. He was allowed to see his kids and eventually allowed them to make their own decision. They could live and die as humans or turn into vampires once they were old enough. He would be in their lives either way.
Present
He spent his entire life moving from one town to another and from one relationship to the next, so his arrival in Briar Creek wasn’t planned for any specific reason, but now that he arrived things have gotten more complicated for him than he imagined: Being close to Rosalie, his dead ex girlfriend’s best friend and his protégé was not what he had in mind, especially not since things have been a little intense between them.
Working as a surgeon is easy for him. He is in full control of his bloodlust.
He’s not as passionate about his job as he pretends to be. Wyatt wanted to do something meaningful, yes, but he ultimately chose it to gain more attention and appreciation. Old habits die hard.
While he manages to control himself with ease, he does feed on human beings. He simply prefers it when they are willing to be fed on.
Personality
It’s safe to say that he can be an asshole. Wyatt is very egocentric and even though some might say he has it all, he always craves more.
With that being said, he can be unbelievably charming as well. It always depends on his mood.
When he cares about someone he cares about them for life. He is very loyal and would never betray a friend. Unfortunately, it takes a little something to become his friend.
Vampirism is something he embraces. He never regretted his decision to become a creature of the night and he happily offers the same gift to those who ask.
