“No thanks kid.” Shego waved her hand. She didn’t need to plan ahead for a day on the beach. She looked over at the girl’s outfit. “are you even certified to be a life guard, or are you just bored?” she wondered out loud. “Also, i’d try a different color suit.”

     “Okay, that’s fine” Moana still smiled sweetly. She supposed these flyers were probably going to be more popular with those that struggled to navigate themselves more than anything. “Helpful” she shrugged. “If they’re gonna encourage all of these kids to the beach, surely somebody has to watch over them and besides, the ocean is a friend of mine” she smiled. “Red not your thing?”

Jim smiled. “Yeah actually, figured I’d see how that was going.” He said though he wasn’t really as enthused as most probably were about it. he did like to think about the engineering process that might go into building a sandcastle, mostly because its something that he hasn’t thought about since he was five. And then he learned how to build his first engine at eight so sand castle construction hasn’t been on his mind in a long long time. “Whats the world you were visiting like? The one that you were so entranced with that no one else existed.” He asked as he looked out at the scenery she was staring at before. “Don’t suppose it was water based? That would be cool.”

     “They all look like very...interesting places to house a sand royal” Moana laughed gently. Although they might have had their imperfections, she still thought they all looked beautiful. “Oh um, kind of...” Moana sighed. “I was just imagining voyaging out into the ocean but it’s weird...it felt more like a memory than something I was just thinking about. Strange” she shook her head. “Sorry, Atlantis definitely would have been a cooler answer, right?”

“No, that’s not weird. Not at all.” she replied, her lips spreading into a small smile. “I’m a singer, so I kinda have an idea what that’s like. Inspiration sometimes just hits and you have to just get it out there as quickly as possible.” she explained, pushing her hands forward towards the horizon to further emphasize her point. “If I were you’d, I’m commit those to a painting of some sort. That looks so beautiful, so raw. You’re clearly onto something, so don’t doubt yourself.” Peg popped her hip as she studied the younger girl quizzically before asking. “So what does bring you joy, kid? Your smile is far too bright for you to not have something that feeds your fire.”

     “A singer? Do you perform around here?” Moana inquired, wondering if she might be able to stop by sometime. “Yes, exactly” she nodded, relieved to hear that what was happening was at least a little bit normal. “Thank you, maybe I’ll do that some time if I can find a canvas” she smiled. The stranger was so lovely and Moana regretted that it had taken her this long to introduce herself. “I’m Moana...it’s lovely to meet you. I like to sail. Getting the wind behind me, being out on the open water. There is nothing more freeing”

“No, no, it’s okay. It’s relieving to know that I’m not the only one. I thought I was being punished for something, my own sister doesn’t even know me,” Elsa rambled, which was completely out of character for her. She knew she was unravelling fast. She nodded along to the girl’s words. “Motunui… That sounds familiar. Oh! That’s the name of the beach by the pier. That’s so strange…” Elsa shook her head. “I know the feeling. I used to be a Queen and now I own an ice cream shop.” She laughed, but it was a sad laugh.

     “Oh my, I’m sorry to hear that. That must be so awful” Moana frowned, offering her a sympathetic smile. Moana didn’t have any siblings, something that had seemed like a curse growing up but suddenly she was grateful to not know what Elsa must be going through. “Right? Very strange, and I keep seeing this man covered in all of these tattoos and we’re on a boat and there’s a chicken but I just don’t know what any of it means. Maybe it’s just a crazy dream, that’s all. I don’t know” she sighed. “How do we go home?”

“Oh don’t worry, I’ve already had a couple tonight. This is my good girl juice so I don’t get in trouble with the fuzz for ‘public indecency’. I feel like if I look this good, the only things I can do are indecent, y’know?” she replied with a shrug, though she gave the girl a grateful smile at the tip. “Nah, I wanted to ask about your sand art, kid. That shit’s beautiful, very zen garden vibes. You an artist of some kind?”

     “...Right, that makes sense to me. At least you’re being careful, then. That’s always good” Moana laughed nervously, unsure at first how to take this stranger. She certainly spoke her mind with Moana couldn’t fault, she just wasn’t used to when others typically kept those thoughts to themselves. “Oh, this? Well thank you” she smiled. “I’m definitely no artist but, I don’t know, it just came to me. Is that weird?”

“‘s no problem, really” Drake shruged with a soft smile before placing his atention back towards the sand that was getting in his shoes (much to his chagrin, but then again, what else was he expecting?) “Not at all, I was just passing by, saw a figure in the beach and was wondering if you were ok”

The sea is a place one doesn’t really want to lower their guards around, after all. He had thought, for a moment, that the person was in danger or lost, but, luckily, that didn’t seem to be the case.

“Ah…yeah, I’ll give it a try in a sec, it’s just…” he paused, before looking once again at her “I don’t mean to meddle, but are you ok? The games and food are over there…andyouareoverhere. Onyourown. Not that it’s bad or anything, just curious”

     “It’s really sweet of you to come all the way over here just to check on me but I’m okay, promise” Moana explained, offering the stranger a gentle smile. “I just needed a little break from everything that was going on and I got a little lost in my thoughts, I suppose. Nothing to be too concerned about.” she shrugged, rising to her feet and dusting sand off of her skirt. That explanation certainly made her sound like less of a mad woman than “I keep seeing shapes and a man in my dreams” would have.

“Did you space out? You look like you’re not even having fun.” Ariel complained to her friend. The waves crashed along the sand and she scooted quickly away from the water. The last time she had ocean water touch her feet, she had the weirdest rash. It almost resembled scales but it had gone away once she had dried off, she didn’t want to go through that again. “What are you drawing in the sand? Can’t be more exciting than drinks in coconuts that you speak of, let’s go get some.” 

     Guilt rushed through Moana and pooled in her stomach as she looked over at her friend, regretting that she hadn’t been paying more attention. “I’m so sorry, Ariel. I got a little lost in my train of thought there..” she apologized sincerely. She would have to make it up to her somehow. “Oh, it’s nothing. Just some shapes and things” she waved her off, standing to lead her towards the drinks in coconuts. “Are you having fun, then?” she asked, relieved that she seemed to have let it go already. “Maybe later we could stay for the fireworks too?”

Maleficent raised an eyebrow, her finger stroking beneath Diaval’s beak. She took a moment to study the girl’s face, then gave her a tight lipped smile. “I don’t believe we have, no. Perhaps we’ve seen each other passing in the street.” The girl mentioned she took people and Mal ran her fingers through her raven black tresses. “Sailing? I haven’t been on a boat around the island yet. I imagine it’s quite beautiful.” Maybe she’d go on a trip one day, and perhaps take Cruella with her for company. “I don’t really partake in things like this, I’m usually not invited,” she laughed. “But yes, I am enjoying it so far. How about you? Are you having a good time, sailor?”

     “I do apologize, you just have such a distinct face, is all” Moana shook her head. “You’re probably right, though. This town isn’t terribly big, and with more people arriving it’s likely we’ll all bump into one another a few times” she nodded gently. “It’s definitely something you’d want to see, promise. It’s beautiful, and it takes less time to go around the island than you might think, actually” she smiled, pleased to see her take such an interest. “Why not? That doesn’t seem very fair...at least you’re here now, though?” she grinned, trying to see the positive. “Where I’m from, I’m called a Wayfinder, actually. And yes, I am, thank you”

Elsa’s heart nearly stopped when the girl spoke. She looked at the girl and almost broke down, the question hooking her deepest anxiety and bringing it to the surface. She turned to the girl and, holding back tears, said “No, I don’t. I don’t belong here.” Elsa said, trying to hide the desperation in her voice. “I woke up here. I’m from the kingdom of Arendelle in Norway… and we did not have these strange technologies.” She said, shaking her head. “There is a strange magic here.” She said and sighed. “I’m sorry. I’m Elsa. Where are you from, originally?”

     “Sorry to be so direct, I just noticed..” Moana frowned, hoping she hadn’t upset the other woman. She had to ask, though, just to confirm she wasn’t going crazy. “I know about the strange magic, alright” she exhaled a deep sigh. “Even the ocean can’t help me get out of here” she explained, not going into detail as to how she knew that. “No need to be sorry...my name is Moana, I come from an island called Motonui. I’m the Chief’s daughter, or, I was....I’m not really sure who I’m supposed to be here”

     “Huh? Oh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there” Moana apologized quickly when she realized the other had been standing there. “Did you need something? Maybe I can help” she offered, standing and taking one last glance at the countless swirling symbols she had drawn in the sand before she used her foot to kick some sand over them. She kept seeing it in her dreams, but at risk of sounding like a crazy person, she had kept that to herself for now. “They’re serving drinks in coconuts and trust me, they just taste better that way”

     “You don’t belong here, do you?” Moana asked as she stopped beside the blonde. “Either, sorry that was badly worded. You don’t belong here either, do you? I mean, by all means correct me if I’m mistaken but you just...you have that same look in your eyes, when you think nobody else is looking at you” Moana explained, watching her for any indication that she might be right, and that she might not be the only one that feels out of place here. “How did you get to be in a place like this?”

     “Hi, sorry have we met before? You just look kind of familiar” Moana asked the other, raising a brow as she stepped a little closer. It wasn’t the biggest town, so perhaps she had just crossed paths with her sometime, but she couldn’t help her curiosity. “I’m Moana, I take a lot of people out sailing around the island most days” she explained, wondering if that might jog a memory at all. “Are you enjoying everything? It’s nice to see everybody have so much fun, right?”

     The sound of footsteps in the sand startled Moana. She had been staring at the edge of the water, deep in her own thoughts and imagination. Or was it imagination? She didn’t have time to think about that right now, she was supposed to be having fun. “Hi there, I’m sorry, I was in a world entirely of my own there” Moana laughed softly, shaking her head. “Were you looking for the sandcastle competition? I think that starts in a few minutes..” she explained with a smile, looking over at the stranger.

     “Hi there, my name is Moana. Would you like a flyer? It has an itinerary of everything that’s going on and where you can find it. It’s super helpful” she explained, holding one of the flyers out to the stranger with a gentle smile. With so many people on the beach today, it only seemed responsible for somebody to assume the role of life guard and the kids seemed to listen to Moana with ease., although, she was sure that had more to do with the whistle that hung from her neck than her words. “I hope you have a wonderful day”
