Happy 5 revolutions around the sun to my little Wise Guy Abdul Sattar! At age 5, your favorite artists are @Kaytranada @ElAlfaElJefe and of course your birthday partner @JimiHendrix. You love studying dance by watching Marcus Chachoo @Omega_tba, @The_Breaking_Program, and @L.Baroque, and you show a keen interest in learning to cook and have mastered making my morning cup of Coffee! Your favorite current athelete is your bud @BrvndonFlexx and @KingJames, but you also LOVE Space Jam and the soundtrack to it, obviously no R Kelly, and ask me questions all day long about Michael Jordan and Mugsy Bogues. Also, you are beginning to read now which will hopefully open up a whole new world to you, and oh yeah, tomorrow you start Tae Kwon Do with Master Cho! Wishing my little broski Shrimpy and his wife Tomika good luck on their next adventure in LA LA land. Looking back through these pictures, we've had some GREAT times over the years, and watching Shrimp grow and develop into the man he is today has been inspiring to say the least. I KNOW he will be back in Chicago at least once a month since he is the definition of #FOMO, the man once drove in rush hour traffic from Chicago to Bartlett to ride a party bus back to Chicago just so he wouldn't miss out on the ride to the city with his boys!  Farewell to the BBQ's and day parties at 500 N LSD, Tomika's AWESOME desserts specifically the OREO balls, to playing FIFA till the sun came up, late nights at Federales, to reverse skydiving, to getting me in trouble for coming home at 5am when I had to be up at 7am...  I hope you like the cards Arman and Sattar made for you, they love you two a ton and are still trying to convince you to not move due to natural disasters and pollution. Despite her struggles, my grandma lived a long and beautiful life and taught me early on that no matter how bad things can seem, Life is Good. When I was 15 years old and getting in trouble, she was the first one to pull me aside and drop some real jewels to me about working smart and having a good work ethic and always thinking of your family first. She traveled the world and experienced so many extraordinary things that someone could write a book or make a movie about her life. People flew in from a ll over the world to pay their respects to see her these past couple of months. Our phones are still buzzing every minute with people paying their respects. She was surrounded by family and friends up till the moment she passed, and to pass during the holy month of Ramadan itself was a blessing. It's almost as if it was qismat, that she willed herself to fight just a bit longer and go out how she wanted to. I bet she's enjoying life up there with Nana and Ummu Khala, and Bi Apa. إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un Yesterday, my family and I said our last goodbyes to the matriarch of our family, our Ummi. Words can't describe what she meant to us, she was the backbone of our family. Uprooted from her house, and stripped away from her husband and family during the Dhaka fall in Bangladesh in 1971, I don't know how she managed to keep her sanity and somehow collect and find her remaining children.  Raising 5 kids without a husband is hard, but even harder in developing countries like Pakistan. My Nani started "Ladies corner" a place where women could sew for customers on consignment, to help empower women. She worked hard, saved her money, and raised her children without any welfare.  She never took any bull from anybody,  would see through the shadiest con artists, and always stood up for what was right. Through her actions, I learned early on to respect women, and humanity as a whole. To always help other people when you could, because you never know when you will need help yourself, and no matter what, to always submit to Allah.  (at Karachi, Pakistan)
