I read about this Futurist named Rita King in a book called “Bored & Brilliant”. The book is genius because it examines ways in which spacing out is necessary for “unlocking your most productive and creative self”. The Futurist has that skill down, she’s someone who gets paid to think of the things no one else can imagine, visualizing how people/places/environments will be in the future. She says the secret to putting herself into the minds of people who live in the future is “BEING RADICALLY PRESENT”. I’m fascinated by this because she achieves this by “recording the little things that make an environment unique to itself”. ~I repeat, THE LITTLE THINGS~ It’s less about the big ideas but the tiny observations, you feel me. 🤔 I’d say I’m a Futurist, as well. I look at retail and business with a BIG imagination. 🤯 I constantly see this intersection where the internet bridges new gaps between the two to create space for human experiences, long-lasting relationships with good product from accountable brands. In my visions, experiences evolve, but loyalty is a REAL thing. It’s legacy building! I really live for it. I’ve been FUTURE-ing retail my entire career and it’s very clear to me that there are patterns. I love seeing patterns, repetition is not just in a sale, it thrives in a connection. I see them and I think there are people who fuck with me that know I see them too. And that’s really cool to me, it’s validating and motivating in many ways. If you’re not following me, that’s totally ok. Just know that my time in Hawaii is less a vacation and more of a mindscape. These last 2 years, I’ve visited Hawaii 3x and developed some of my best work yet. I’m not saying come to Hawaii to work, so much as seek places and spaces that allow you to maximize your thinking. Like off your phone, tapped in levels of thinking. I feel like I’m putting in some serious emotional work and self-discovery out here. It’s added value to my work, but most importantly to myself.
