a hundred evening voices, a quarter-moon and silvering air, a scarf unwound red in a hallway, perfume faded on wrists, and your fingers in black hair. you don’t know if you’re hollow or heavy with longing. you have always been hungry. ALECTO CARROW. 22. former slytherin. socialite.
frank’s fingers played absentmindedly with the coaster on the counter, shuffling it back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. eventually, the bartender SLAMMED down another drink on the mat, forcing frank to snap his hand back to avoid getting crushed. “sorry,” he muttered, curling his fingers around the glass. “thanks.” as he took a slow sip, he looked over to the person sitting next to him, quirking an eyebrow absentmindedly. “so what brings you here on this lovely night? boredom?”
alecto was supposed to be meeting someone, actually, someone important with a lot of connections, and she wasn’t very pleased that they hadn’t shown up. furthermore, she disliked the location -- it was terribly pedestrian. so she was glad when the man next to her started up a conversation. she knew what he was -- pureblood, blood traitor, auror. and a distraction to stave off her simmering anger at her would-be companion, who was turning out to be more and more likely a no-show. “--- you could call it that. ” she let out a slow sigh, fingers delicately tracing the rim of the glass, her eyes resting idly on the hand that had just been fiddling with the coaster. “ --- i’m guessing it’s the SAME for you? ” one eyebrow quirked slightly.
Remus usually wasn’t comfortable in crowds. This one wasn’t better, as always feeling out of place with his cheap suit that didn’t fit him as much as all these wealthy wizards’ perfectly tailored robes. He had lost Sirius at some point and was now left smoking another cigarette, trying to guess who would be elected at the now empty Minister position, when he heard a pair of incoming footsteps. He looked up and recognised Alecto Carrow, a former Hogwarts student who was a few years older than him. Remus handed her his lighter and stared probably too long at the cigarette he knew to be expensive. Well everything seemed expensive with her, even her nailpolish probably costed more than Remus owned as a monthly salary.
“No problem.” He assured her and looked back at the lake. Remus felt like her words were a little bit excessive, and unless she had known Minchum personally he didn’t understand her sadness. “I just hope the murderer will get arrested at some point, no one deserves this kind of death.”
alecto noticed the way remus stared at her cigarette, and she didn’t have much trouble guessing why. wealth dripped from ever fibre of alecto’s being, from the way she walked to the way she smelled ( chanel no. 5, to be precise ). it could be a bit overwhelming for those unused to wealth -- which, apparently, remus lupin was. she cast a cursory glance over remus, calling to mind all she knew about him. it wasn’t much, suggesting he wasn’t very important, and didn’t get involved in the affairs of important people. except, she remembered, for sirius black. their relationship didn’t bother alecto -- she knew very well what it felt like to hide affection for a gender you weren’t supposed to love -- but she imagined walburga must have been furious. she found herself looking at remus lupin with a keener eye. even if he wasn’t important, several important people didn’t like him very much, and that warranted alecto’s interest. she accepted his lighter, giving him a curved smile. “ --- is this muggle? how quaint. ” she ducked her head to light her cigarette, glancing up at him through long eyelashes before tipping her head back and blowing a thin column of smoke into the air. she hummed in agreement to his comment. “ --- MURDERED in his own home. whoever did it must be truly without mercy. ” and alecto would love to meet them.
Ted sat at the Hufflepuff table, running one hand over the inscriptions in the thick, aged wood. He glanced around the hall, feeling embarrassingly out of place in his faded dark jeans and an inability at successfully entertaining small talk. He eyed up the champagne flute in front of him, curiously holding it between calloused fingers. Experimentally taking a sip, his face scrunched in disgust as he tried not to cough at the bubbles flooding his mouth. He placed the glass delicately on the table, pushing it away from him.
“D’ya reckon it’d be rude to ask for a pint?”
alecto had been studying the man at the hufflepuff table for a while, trying to place who he was. his face looked familiar; she remembered he had gone to hogwarts a few years above her, but his name escaped her. it wasn’t until he spoke aloud that she recognized him for who he was: ted tonks, the man who had successfully spirited andromeda black away from her family. she would’ve thought he would be better looking. but then again, alecto supposed she wasn’t the best judge of that. still, she was intrigued as to what exactly made this muggleborn alluring enough to tear apart the black family. “ --- the question isn’t if it would be rude, ” she said smoothly, seating herself atop the table beside him and crossing her long legs at the ankle, “ --- but if it would be an absolute affront to good taste everywhere. and the answer to that is YES. ” she pushed the glass back towards him. “ --- it’s a funeral, doll. treat yourself. a beber y a tragar, que el mundo se va a acabar. ” the spanish saying rolled smoothly off of alecto’s tongue, and she raised her own glass to him in a salute before taking a sip.
alecto was an easily bored individual. she stood in a crowd of very wealthy, very important people, smiling graciously -- and yet with the right degree of sorrow -- as her perfectly manicured nails drummed a distracted beat on her thigh. finally, she just couldn’t handle the tedium of the false sympathy, and with a murmured excuse, she navigated her way out of the crowd, dabbing at her eyes in modest grief. as soon as she turned the corner, she relaxed, but then she spotted a nearby figure, who apparently had had the same idea she had in trying to get away from the crowd. she sauntered over to them, extracting an expensive cigarette from an even more expensive cigarette case. “ --- got a light, doll? ” she asked by way of announcing her presence, her voice husky and sweet. “ --- i HOPE you don’t mind. i had to get away to take a breath ... it’s just so terrible. such a tragedy. ” although the words may have seemed sarcastic from anyone else’s lips, they sounded entirely genuine when alecto said them, her eyes downcast.
EIZA GONZALEZ —— Was that ALECTO CARROW? I heard the 22 year old SLYTHERIN alumni is now a SOCIALITE. Fitting, seeing as how SHE’S siding with THE DEATH EATERS. They always were CHARISMATIC and EXPANSIVE, though sometimes they could be MATERIALISTIC and CAPRICIOUS. Some used to call them the SYBARITE.
okay so!! here is .. my third character already wow
so basically i really like her label which is the sybarite, and the dictionary definition of sybarite is “a person who is self-indulgent in their fondness for sensuous luxury”
and that basically describes alecto to a tee!!
her parents kind of didn’t really care about her that much.. like idk they were young and they weren’t in love and they had better things to do with their life than to raise a young daughter. that responsibility fell mostly to the house elves, who were too scared of her and her parents to deny her anything
so basically she was spoiled as FUCK as a child
she was one of those kids who’ll be like “if you do x then you’ll be my best friend” and “if you don’t do y then you’re not my friend anymore”
and ofc all the other kids at hogwarts wanted to be her friend cause she had literally everything (again: spoiled as fuck)
and she has this way of really fixating on one person?? still has it to this day, where she’ll suddenly discover someone to be her new confidant and best friend and she lavishes all this attention on them and basically makes them feel really special ... until she moves on to the next person lmao
she’s terribly manipulative in this way and fully knows it, because it feels wonderful to have alecto’s attention, and she’ll keep stringing all her past obsessions along by just randomly popping into their lives with a gift or an invite to a party because she misses you, and we should totally catch up sometime
(spoiler alert: she never catches up)
she does have a few close friends who she treats normally and who have stayed her friends throughout all her new besties
but like just the thrill of a wild night out with alecto where you’re drunk on champagne and she’s hanging on your every word and she’s giving you that glowing smile that you’ve seen others get but never received .....
basically she’s able to manipulate a Lot of powerful people this way
she usually doesn’t have to, but she will resort to blackmail if she has to, because she knows so many secrets oh lord
knows all the dirty laundry of many prominent families
she also throws a LOT of parties, which are like the It parties. everyone who’s anyone is invited,, she spreads rumours about the parties to make them seem more alluring. but she’s also a great host, she’s composed and witty and vivacious and can easily start a conversation with almost anyone
she’s married to some rich pureblood but it was an arranged marriage so she doesn’t really care about him and isn’t very faithful (especially since she likes women a lot more than she likes men..... read: gay af)
js if anyone ever has the urge to take up a rich pureblood who might be in need of a hedonistic, manipulative trophy wife ....... hmu
basically daisy buchanan if daisy buchanan threw gatsby-level parties
decadence 2 the Extreme
probably isn’t too entrenched w the death eaters right now...... maybe amycus is more involved w them and that’s why she starts feeding them secrets?? who knows
OH almost forgot but she also donates a lot to charities... keeps up her Good Public Figure
