Era um lugar estranhamente movimentado aquele. Por suas viagens, havia passado em muitos lugares do país nipônico, mas nada como um lugar como aquele. Talvez fosse o fato de ser um mercado? Ele nunca havia parado em um desses antes. Ver aquele povo todo junto era uma boa visão, depois de viajar sozinho por tanto tempo, apenas com a companhia do pequeno ladrão Dororo. Tal ladrãozinho havia sumido da vista de Hyakkimaru, provavelmente para saquear aquele lugar. Mais cedo ou mais tarde, ele apareceria.

A sua estranha paz, porém, fora quebrada quando sentiu uma presença bastante incomum. Não tinha certeza se era um demônio, mas definitivamente não era um humano. Não podia ver, mas sabia que estava ali. Preparou-se para retirar o braço falso e revelar sua lâmina especial para combater o que quer que estivesse ali. Porém, por enquanto, manteve-se quieto, de braços cruzados, esperando que a criatura aparecesse logo.

❝ — Entre tantas figuras incomuns, singulares, poucos se destacavam o suficiente para que a atenção e curiosidade de Cheshire fosse provocada. Não apenas sua curiosidade como sua fome, já estava lá fazia algum tempo e um saboroso humano lhe serviria como refeição. Inesperadamente, surgiu tal humano que lhe saciar a gula. Vestia roupas tipicamente niponicas, um cabelo realmente único. Entretanto, podia sentir que este agia de modo suspeito. 

Não havia dúvidas:  Ele estava sentindo sua presença, um tanto fraca, mas ainda assim ele podia notá-lo. Humanos eram entediantes e extremamente irritantes com suas habilidades "especiais", não deveriam eles serem apenas indefesos e aceitarem serem a presa dos mais fortes? Como era irritante! Cheshire rosnava baixinho, aquela figura peculiar e o fato dele poder senti-lo era, além de tudo, uma ameaça. 

Atacou. De sua forma espectral, em questão de segundos em que estava no ar indo em direção ao seu alvo, tomou novamente sua força humanóide agora com as garras prontas para lhe dislacerar a carne.

Seu hábito de vigiar os humanos estava se tornando cada vez mais rotineiro por conta do marasmo que tomava conta de sua Casa. Não apenas por esse motivo, mas a inveja que cravejava sua alma para com os humanos o fazia observá-los, amaldiçoa-los. Os odiava e invejava, uma mistura de sentimentos obscuros que o levava até a Terra para nada mais do que alimentar tais "buracos negros" em seu peito, torná-los mais profundos. 

Tantas formas diferentes, expressões triste e sorridentes, a reunião de vários humanos diferentes em multidões farvalhosas se assemelhava aos grandes Carnavais; Máscaras sobrepostas para manter a compostura e sua imagem, a despreocupação de outros quanto a isso já não lhe era surpresa -- Sempre haveriam os rebeldes. Era um lugar barulhento, fétido, onde Cheshire tinha de vir usar da forma espectral, como uma sombra nos cantos. Poucos casos lhe chavam a atenção -- fosse talvez o cabelo ou as roupas diferentes -- mas nada realmente digno de sua curiosidade. 

-- Nada. -- Sussurrou para si mesmo com pesar e desgosto. Nem mesmo ali encontraria algo para lhe entreter a mente, perguntava-se. -- Nada diferente do usual. 

                                  Humanos era tão chatos afinal de contas.
