It’s a Soapy Double Standard -- An Opinion of a Day fan
I have been a Days fan for on/ off since 2006. The first episode I remember seeing is when Bo/Hope were in a cave looking for Georgia. It was one day that I flipped and I have been hooked ever since. I wasn’t a regular viewer till 2009.
With that being said, I have shipped a lot of couples over the years, starting with Bope, EJami, JnJ, Jabi... and many more. One of my fav couple for the past year was Chabby. I can’t exactly pinpointing what made me to fall in love with them, but, I have loved every single one of the versions, though my fav version was Billy/Marci.
I am aware that the couple is a center of controversy, especially with Abby killing Andre. That storyline has became a Team Gabi versus Team Abby and put fans against each other because of Abby sending Gabi to jail. I can’t even count the time I was attacked by Team Gabi for stating that I love Abby more than Gabi, and therefore, I root for her. Most of the arguments are about how Abby was the one responsible for Gabi being in jail and not being able to have kids. Team Gabi often brings up that Abby never apologizes for it. Well, if my memory serves right, Abby did apologize, but, for Gabi, it is all about revenge. And to be honest, I think that Gabi should have been focusing on her daughter than seeking revenge. (And yes, I get that gives a drama... but hey, this is my opinion)
With that being said, Abby is not the only person who killed someone, Ben did too. While Abby killed one person under her mental illness state, Ben was very aware of what he was doing. When he first re-joined the show, he showed quite a bit of remorse. I was never a Ben fan, but, to be honest, I feel like there is this double standard when it comes to a mentally ill character like Abby and a very sane character like Ben. With Ciara/Ben ship on the rise, people are so quickly to forgive Ben for his killings and him terrorizing Abby that led her to the mental state she was in.
That makes me wonder why viewers/fans forgave Ben so quickly and they give Abby such hard time. Why do people think that Abby deserves to be drugged by Gabi, being locked up in a mental facility when she’s completely sane and not knowing that Chad is Charlotte’s father? Why do people not give the same grief to Ben? To Gabi? They all kill someone, whatever it was under mentally state, in defense or as a result of childhood trauma, and yet, Abby is the one who gets so much grief and hate. And a better question, why can’t soap fans be okay with people having different opinions than theirs and be civilized?
