something more elaborated tba; short version: the case of the laboratory in hawkins was a media sweetheart, everyone was talking about it ( well, about the part that they were okay with the public knowing; the experiment with the kids, but not mentioning the upside down at all ). but it was felt... fabricated. false, unreal, fake. and so, “hawkins -- the truth about the town.”, a tell all book about the famous hawkins case was published by nicole holland, a fake name nancy decided to use, so they wouldn’t know it was her; the government wouldn’t be happy about it at all, she was told, and they were right. after they showed up on her mom’s house, she decided to go low-key and disappear. now she lives at the overlook in this small house, with no ties whatsoever with anyone she had ever known, proud to have done what she always wanted: avenge barb and not become a suburban mom.

welcome to castle rock, robert ‘robin’ arryn. you’ve just blown out twenty candles on your most recent birthday cake, and rumour has it that you had your last birthday in the eyrie. now, you can be found loitering around the overlook. why did you leave there again? was it something to do with your overzelous mother telling you it’s time to go home? regardless, we’re glad to have you. i hope that thin-skinned, entitled, naive and insightful behaviour of yours doesn’t cause too much trouble here... it’s funny, you remind me of big and thick blankets, scalding soup, dark circles from unslept nights, handmade wool sweaters & tear-filled eyes. perhaps i’m going mad.
robin’s mother, lysa, lost seven children before birthing him, five during pregnancy and two stillborn. his pregnancy was also rough, as his father died six months in.
robert was also born with an anomaly; otherwise healthy and common, the boy held a vagina instead of a penis. the doctors made sure lysa understood it wasn’t something major and that wouldn’t affect the boy’s health at all, but they would have to keep an eye on it. because of it, little robert was already going to the hospital constantly pretty early on his life.
that made it easier for lysa to pretend he had heart and lung problems, even more with the help of corrupt doctors that were eager to accept money from her husband’s death. growing up, robin learned that his health was way more fragile than it actually was.
robin was homeschooled, of course, by some man his manipulative stepfather petyr baelish arranged. he was taught only what lysa wanted him to learn, one more way she found to manipulate into never wrongdoing her.
because of so much abuse, robin struggled heavily with depression and anxiety. at nineteen years old, he had his first ( and, curiously, his only ) anxiety attack; but, since he was never diagnosed with any mental illness and believed his heart was far too weak, he was sure he was having a heart attack.
he woke up on his big, empty house’s living room floor, right beside his mother, who, later he would learn, had an actual heart attack. feeling like a monster for not shedding one tear, he got up and went to take a shower.
sweet robin learned all about the lies his mother told him. with her coming back from the hospital and robert not being her puppet anymore, how will castle rock react to that pale kid finally going out of that big house on the hill by himself?

When Mike saw someone at the cafe start to cry, his heart ached for her. He didn’t know what it was she was crying for but he stopped to make sure she was okay. “Hey it’s okay, you should see me, I cry at a drop of a hat.” Mike said honestly, not wanting her to feel bad about showing any emotion. He hated to admit it, but when the loud sound happened beside them Mike almost jumped a foot. He quickly had to calm himself down because he felt the last thing she needed was someone scared. “Hey it’s okay, someone probably just dropped a piece of equipment or something behind the counter. I’m sure it’s nothing.”
a man being open about his sadness? that got a smile from her immediatelly. ❛ you’re just saying that to make me feel better. ❜ and it was working; she had calmed down from all the beautiful phrases and was about to ask his name -- and her heart was pounding from the sound. ❛ probably, yeah. ❜ but she then realized what it was; the jealous beast who liked to keep her locked in the mansion. already thinking of the confrontation there would be when she went home at night, she got up, grabbing the book. ❛ but i think i’m done, anyway, so... you coming with me, crybaby? ❜
he felt something was off, he couldn’t really put his finger on it but either way it was making him uneasy. the best way to try and figure out what was going on was to investigate, try and figure out what was going on. the closer he got to the person in question, he could hear a shaky voice and something about being a crybaby. but before he could do anything else he must of knocked something over in his not so stealth approach because that certainly got the woman’s attention. he could’ve easily just left the room entirely but he didn’t want to leave her unsettled. “oh uh, sorry about that miss! thought i heard someone distraught over here, just wanted to make sure everything was alright.”
truthfully, belle did not think the augurous noise could have been caused by that pale-skinned young man in front of her, but what else would it have been? the question with a suposed obvious asnwer isn’t enough to brush the fear out of her mind, though. she closes the poetry collection she had been spilling tears over, and stands up, walking closer to the stranger, hazel eyes never leaving the direction where the sound came. ❛ i’m well, thanks -- but did you hear that noise too? i don’t mean to sound paranoid, but it trully was a very weird sound, so... ❜
❛ oh my god, i’m such a crybaby! ❜ her voice is shaking; the words hit her chest so strongly. she truly isn’t that much of a crybaby, but when poets ramble about love?! for a second, she does try to hold it, but the tears come soon --- but a loud, ominous sound comes from the dark depths of the bad brews, and her hazel orbs go for them. ❛ what the hell was that? ❜ the french accent shows up more in her terrified whispers.

despite actually playing him younger than in the events of the book / movie (we don’t have an official age for paul, but james caan was around fifty when playing him and that age seems to fit the book’s), i’ll portrayal paul some years after his trauma, and will mildly change what happens at the end of the book and film.
paul has a lot of trouble after all that happened to him. beyond strong ptsd and physical complications (especially, of course, with his legs), he struggles with himself as a writer. not that he needs the money of a new book, the misery series took good care of him when it came to finances.
but his mind needs a new book, a new story to tell. and, for a good time, he had this idea of writing about a young nurse who falls in love with a poor of her patients, but his cynical side knew that wasn’t going to last. that was about coping and shit, not what his heart wanted to tell.
usually, he traveled after finishing a book. but, well, he wasn’t the same paul, why should that tradition be kept? he took a train in los angeles and planned to go whenever his soul told him to. but his soul was sleepy that day, and he woke up by himself in a station in some small town in maine.
maine?! how the fuck did he get there? well, he had the money and it was late, so, after spending a night at the overlook, he knew his soul was right. somehow, he was supposed to be in this castle rock town in maine. his next story waited to be told, somewhere in here.

welcome to castle rock, norman bates. you’ve just blown out thirty candles on your most recent birthday cake, and rumour has it that you had your last birthday in bates motel. now, you can be found loitering around the overlook. why did you leave there again? was it something to do with them finding out your rotting secret in the basement and coming for you? regardless, we’re glad to have you. i hope that timid, intelligent, disciplined and worrisome behaviour of yours doesn’t cause too much trouble here... it’s funny, you remind me of keeping words in your throat for fear of humiliation, wide eyes just slightly off of where they're supposed to be looking at, the cold water cleaning your skin from the blood and the adrenaline, a child knowing to spell a word way too big for their age. perhaps i’m going mad.
despite only watching the first part of the tv series, i will actually take quite a bit of inspiration from it, specially regarding norman’s personality and background. i will also be ignoring a bit of the film’s canon, as i thought it could make things more interesting.
when the cops came for norman, sure they would arrest the guy who murdered his own mother and her lover ten years before, he was already on the run. the bates motel was very much locked and clean, but also very much empty.
on the run with a corpse on the trunk, norman didn’t stop driving for nearly three days. and, when he was forced to stop for gas, he meant it to be a quick thing, but one thing lead to another and he had checked in on the overlook, his mother still rotting in his car.
some years later, some awful accident happened to the overlook’s manager, and he died in his sleep while carbon monoxide filled his room. suddenly, norman had again a motel to manage!
now, you can probably find him cleaning something in the overlook’s hall, or putting on a smile for the newcomers who wish to stay in the motel. just hope that said newcomers understand his rule about not going in the locked 160 room, the one right next to his.

my portrayal of belle is very close to canon; she was born and raised on castle rock, and she is now, because of a mistake her (now late) father made, a hostage of the monster that lives on that big house up the hill. but, instead of a prince with a bad heart who got turned on a beast or whatever, the beast is more of a force / spirit.
it communicates with belle manipulating her feelings. when she misbehaves, something in her chest dies, and she feels awful. when she does what it wants her to do, her heart gets warm. when she is too much time out of the house, her heart pounds so hard she can hear it on her ears and it makes her legs weak and shake.
the town knows about belle and the beast, and have offered her help in some ways. madame daphne has even offered her spiritual help, to free her from that curse, but... but she didn’t want to. sure, it was awful when she did something wrong, but what it made her feel when she did things right... it was a feeling not even her, an avid reader with a vast vocabulary, could describe.
