imagine the gods giving percy godhood as a punishment and not a gift. him having to grow old, and see his mother and friends and annabeth die and be powerless to stay with them. him being forced to carry out the whims of the major gods, becoming one of the minor gods they'd always laughably ignored. funny, isn't it? but if perseus jackson wanted to help out the minor gods he might as well be one rather than a powerful mortal. instead of claiming children they could send him to watch over the demigods, make him torture himself when they died too soon, beckendorf and ethan and silena and luke and michael all over again. percy's largest flaw is his loyalty, how he would destroy himself for the people he loved, go to death himself and ask to be taken in their stead. his punishment is that he can't put himself between the world and all he loves anymore. he can do nothing while humanity suffers.
