Day 162
Shake It Out (Acoustic)
And I’m done with my graceless heart, so tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart ‘cause I like to keep my issues drawn. It’s always darkest before the dawn.

"We shouldn’t expect our partners to know how to pleasure us, and vice verse."
Sex health educator Jane Langton, in this excellent TED Talk about masturbation.
This is completely true, and why it’s so important to communicate openly and honestly with anyone you decide to have sex with. I’ll probably end up posting the entire video, but I just really wanted to share this quote.

Actually, there’s a lot of things we don’t know about sex because we’ve never been shown the more challenging or embarrassing aspects of it. As much as we would like it to be, sex isn’t always like the movies—it’s not smooth and perfect, it’s not seamless. In fact, it can get quite messy (literally and figuratively).
This article, a small treasure trove of miscellaneous sex facts that I stumbled upon while researching UTIs. It covers:
Vaginal ejaculation! That’s a thing and it’s normal and it’s not the same as peeing! [The article uses the term ‘female ejaculation’, but HYSP respects that not everyone with a vagina is female and not every female has a vagina.]
The importance of lubrication, always!
What to do if the penis just doesn’t quite fit!
Feeling sleepy after sex, and details thereof! (Spoiler: penile ejaculation triggers a brain chemical that causes something similar to narcolepsy.]
Birth control!
Blood?!? [Spoilers: it has nothing to do with your hymen.]

Girls, when you’re feeling sad, just remember:
a vagina can go back to it’s original size after taking something 20x its size
a penis will end up looking like an empty potato sack that’s been run over quite a...

Your sexual health is a majorly big deal. Read on to get schooled.
And, of course, the more that we perpetuate the narrative about male sexuality that says that men must actively start pursuing sex as soon as they’re in high school and if they fail to fuck someone by the time they graduate, they’re not real men, the more we also perpetuate the idea that women are bodies to be had for the sake of men’s pleasure and masculine identities, not full, thinking human beings who should be appreciated and interacted with as such. The more we perpetuate these myths about male sexuality, the more we treat both men and women as if our bodies are what ultimately matter about us. It’s a bad deal for everyone.
