Yasu freezes at the sight and sound of Yamatonokami. He… could’ve sworn that he’d just seen him not that long ago as he passed by his room. How was he all the way out here? And what was he talking about? 

“What are you talking about?” He squints, suspicious. He wasn’t exactly close with him, but they were… amicable enough to know this was… weird, right? “There’s just me and you– unless we got another one? Do we have a brother?”

Oh yeah it seems some people were not yet aware of the fact he had manifested, he, as in a second Yamatonokami. 

“Well, yes and no. I am they new Yamatonomaki. there’s sort of two of us now.” it was still a little odd to explain, and he looks around at the area around him. Where was his room? 

“so, hello again”

Yasusada looks at the ground and lets out a sigh as his hand drops. “Because,” he replies, his tone conveying that he shares the sentiment as his double beside him. “Our job is to protect history as it really happened. If… If we go back and do something–anything– to change the course of history, we’re no better than the enemy, no matter our motivations.” He swallows thickly before clenching his fists and steeling himself again with a huff of air from his nose. “I know. I know. Trust me, it’s… it’s come really close to tempting me. But… We just …can’t. It wouldn’t be right.”

He wants to press. But why. Why would it be bad? Because this new master deemed it so? Well, this new ‘master’ was just a person. They were no Okita Souji. But, for the time being, perhaps he can adjust. What was a chances of him having to face that trauma head on anyway. 

He could see, other Yasu was struggling with the same thoughts. 

“Alright. Understood.” he gives a brief nod. “What happens now, then?”

So Here’s a thing

As a roleplayer I tend to send memes, asks, tag people and make starters for people on whims. If you are alright with me doing that (meaning you may get asks or starters randomly. Mostly asks or one liner starters as I tend to give people a heads up before a launch into plots) go ahead and give this a like, so I know when i do do this it is not unwarranted or unwanted.

Yasusada’s not really sure of the effectiveness of the two of them sparring against each other– but he was pretty sure it couldn’t hurt? Surely training with someone whose moves you could predict but who also could predict yours could have some benefit, right? If anything, it would be fun…

“Oh!” Leading his double along away from the training hall, Yasusada nods. “Yes, that’s our main mission. See, the History Retrograde Army is out there, showing up at various points and events in history, and trying to change the timeline! So, we have to go back in time and defeat them wherever and whenever they show up. But–…” He stops, and places his hand on the other’s upper arm, knowing that, again, if he was anything like himself, he’d need to make this abundantly clear. He still does, even by himself. Maybe the two of them could keep each other grounded? Maybe…

“We can’t change history either. No matter how much we want to. Just remember that…”

So it’s explained more in depth. In way he understands. The other Yasusada reaches out and places a hand on arm, a touch he looks at. The sensation of physical touch, now that anger wasn’t clouding his mind, was an amazing one.. but it’s followed by other things. By an order. almost. 

“What? Why not?” If he, had the option to change the course his history for his master. To spare him a death of wasting away. To Fix the problems, the things he found wrong he would be foolish not to take that chance, right? “Imagine the good we could go for him! Imagine... Kiyomitsu coming back from Ikedaya, all that spared heartache”

At the mention of helping his counterpart get accustomed to the citadel, the last of Yasusada’s initial hostility is gone. “This place is great! If you’re really like me, you’ll love it here too.” His hand reaches out to clutch the other Yasusada’s haori and he starts to pull him along, heading first toward the training hall as it was closest. “This is where we train! We spar a lot in our downtime anyway, but a lot of times our master will assign us a partner or group to train with specifically. Hey, maybe we should spar here too? Maybe it could be a good way to keep us sharp…”

“Spar.” he had seen sparring before, been used to spar, even, in more dangerous spars. He would love to participate in spars, but it doesn’t seem like a good thing right now (and, they had probably already done this, in a sense).

“Yeah. It’ll be nice to spar with someone who know’s the style.” he seems a little less tense now. “There was something about protecting history?”

“I’m new to this citadel please treat me well.”

Yasusada sheathes his sword once the other steps back, and puts a finger to his chin in thought. “I’m not sure…  I don’t really know how it works, but I have heard of this kind of thing before, but never in this citadel.” Suddenly his relatively grim expression flips and a grin creeps across his face. “You know what that means?” He steps closer to his double, excited. “We’re the first! Here, at least! Nobody else here has a duplicate, or a twin, or … or a … I don’t know, but we’re the only ones here!”

It takes him longer to put away his weapon. A few moments after the clone put his away does the sword return to his hip. His double steps closer and Yasusada moves to take another step back. He seemed excited about this. And he is lost. 

“Only doubles here?” so this was normal. Gosh. “Than maybe you can help me get used to.. whatever this is.” he makes a sweeping motion to the citadel.

Yasusada’s eyebrows knit together in more than just effort and determination as their blades are locked. There’s too much familiarity here, even in this minutely short time since they both drew their blades. 

While he’s pretty confident in his own abilities, he’s not this good at intuiting someone else’s moves, not on this kind of level. He decides to try again, maybe going to get the clone to drop his weapon–if he could do that, there’d be no question who was superior, right?

However, it seems Yama-two-nokami is thinking the same thing, and both of their swords are knocked to either side, as if their moves were mirroring each other. 

He takes a step back, just a tad bit weirded out in all of this. “You’re… Uh, you feel it too?”

His movement of disarmament is mirrored and for a moment Yasusada thinks he’s seeing things. Maybe this whole thing was a fever dream. But it’s not. There is another version of him standing in his wake. Mirrored his movement without thought. 

Yasu then mirrors his clone again by taking a large step back, looking him over top to bottom again. 

“Yeah. I do.” it was a lot to wrap his head around. Manifesting. The Mission. The concept. Now another version of him. “But how?”

Of course he hadn’t intended to completely beat him with that shove, but he’s a little disappointed he’s not down for longer (though… some part of him thinks it might also reflect well on himself? He’s just not sure). It takes no time at all for him to draw his own sword, though– the fourth Yamatonokami Yasusada to take part in this spat– and ready himself, his own glare burning right back at him.

“Yeah, and it’s gonna be me!”

 And with that, he runs at him, ready to attack.

So this clone had his tenacity it seems. with an oncoming attack Yasusada takes stance. He has no choice but to play defense and raise his own blade to block his clones. 

However the gears are starting the turn. Blocking that was too was, almost like he know the fighting style... like he used it. 

No matter, he’s going to use his stance with swords locked to try and disarm this guy.

“No, you shut up!” It’s not a good retort, but Yasusada has never been great at the whole ‘sharp wit’ thing– that’s more of a Kashuu trait that he never quite got– especially when the target was more or less himself. It was too weird, but at the same time, he wondered what it might be like to fight himself–

Well, it looked like he was really about to find out, if not in the way he expected. He nearly lost his grip on his counterpart’s shoulders at the impact, but managed to hold on despite having to pause, reeling, for a few moments. “Ugh, I’m gonna get you for that!” he yells, giving the shoulders a hard shove to knock him to the ground. 

This was irritating! His punch didn’t drop the guy and the next moment he’s being pushed and now he’s fallen on his ass in the dusty pathways of this garden. Yasusada quickly moves to draw the sword at his hip (which is... also him? Three Yamatonokami Yasusadas?) and points it at the clone, ready to pounce. 

“Well there is only going to be one of us soon enough!” he growls, a fire of rage igniting in his eyes.

Yasusada lets out a yelp that he forces to turn into a growl of sorts as his scarf is grabbed. This guy just got here! Who is he to just show up and challenge him? (Who even was ‘him’? Yasusada? Or Yasusada? Him, or him? He could not keep thinking about this.) 

“Hey! I was here first! Naturally, I’m the original, right? That means my Souji is real!” He pushes himself to stand as tall and straight as he can, hands gripping at this doppelganger’s shoulders to push him down. “I don’t know about you, or your Souji! I don’t even know how you’re here! Are you a copy?” 

This was escalating, and well, if this person really was HIM it was no question as to why it escalating like it was. However it seems Yasusada was in the lead right now, atleast with him pulling the other downward seemed to suggest that. It didn’t last long though.

“pff! Just shut up!” he was getting angry. Insult him? Okay, whatever. But his master? Hands on his shoulders cause him to stumble and he has to take a moment to regain balance. Yknow, enough to throw a right hook right at the copy’s jaw.

Yasusada lets out a huff through his nose and rests his knuckles on his hips. “What do you mean? I’m Yamatonokami Yasusada! One of Okita Souji’s blades! The real Yamatonokami, and the real Okita Souji! Who are you?”

Maybe that was a stupid question. It was… It was pretty apparent, at least, that they were… they were the same, right? Yeesh…

“The real Okita Souji?” was he calling the Okita he knew was a fake? A fabrication? Such sacrilege! It seems visibly irritated and his hand flys out to grab the other Yamatonokami’s scarf, aiming to pull him and force him at a lower level then his own.

“are you implying I’m a fake? That my Okita Souji is false?”
