April laughed at his stubbornness, leaning her back against the counter next to the fridge, drinking nearly half the glass of milk in one gulp. Interested in the fun plans that had been proposed to her earlier, she perked up when he began to speak of them. Honestly, she wasn’t too dependent on how fun his plans were, and she really wouldn’t be disappointed no matter what he suggested. The positive reaction she had received from Jennings was enough to receive in exchange for her cookies, the request of a payment a joke in the beginning anyway, before she began to get offers of fun plans and days out that she would have to wait to find out what they were until later. Jennings’ two offers made her grin, shaking her head. “As tempting as your first offer sounds, I’m going to have to choose the latter for today. I mean, I would love to partner up on a book some day, but I don’t think we have enough time for that today. Maybe we should start on that earlier in the day.” She suggested, teasingly, finishing off her milk and put the now empty glass in the sink, turning back to give her attention to him once again. “So, should we go?” April asked, nodding her head towards the front door, but waiting to let him get his plate of cookies.
Jennings laughed, the dimple in his chin twitching in and out of view as the muscles in his face were engaged. He'd known from the start that she'd go with the second option he suggested, but the way that she went about it struck him as particularly funny. The prospect of them working together on a book sometime in the future--regardless of the fact that April was being playful when she mentioned it--left him feeling pretty giddy, too. It meant that they'd be hanging out again, and this time, he wouldn't even have to persuade her into it! "Bummer. I was really looking forward to throwing some plot ideas around with you," he joked, feigning disappointment. He hung his head for a moment before perking up again. "I suppose you're right, though. Women always are. We'll get to it some other time!" Jennings raised his glass to his lips once more, ridding it of the remainder of its contents, then placed it carefully in the sink beside April's. "Absolutely. To the beach!" With that, the boy picked up his plate and began walking toward the door. Once he reached it, he opened it with his free hand and quirked his lips up into a crooked smile. "Ladies first."
