What can I hold you with?
This is a fanart I created for the Spideypool fanfic You're Too Sweet by GollumIsMySpiritAnimalïŒ@smeagolmylove ïŒ
(Please go support this fantastic fic on AO3!!! đ„° The authorâs fanart is just as wonderful!)
The idea started back in January. I read chapter 16 and really loved the scene. With the authorâs kind permission, I finally turned it into this piece.
A huge thank you to @smeagolmylove for all the constant support! This is my first time creating fanart for a fic I really love, and the gratitude and joy I feel are hard to express.đ
The title comes from a poem by Jorge Luis Borges, which felt very fitting for this chapter:
âI can give you my loneliness, my darkness, the hunger of my heart; I am trying to bribe you with uncertainty, with danger, with defeat.â
I tried to capture Wade in a moment of emotional pain â hurting himself while lost in memories of the good times with Spidey. I may have put a bit too much of my own kink into it lol, hope you like it đ
the eva stratt in my mind is a conglomeration of movie stratt and book stratt because god fucking bless sandra huller put her entire pussy into that performance, but while weir is bad at character writing (women especially) he IS disconcertingly good at coming up with plots that generate interesting character concepts through circumstances... which due to story cuts the movie sadly missed out on.
it's really interesting looking back at both iterations of the story and how stratt and grace's rapport hinges on unrequitedness. there's obviously the karaoke scene in the movie acting as grace's bid for human connection vs stratt's necessary refusal in order to do her job. the book rarely if ever interrogates stratt's interpersonal relationships in the project and how her sense of duty and utilitarianism extends to them (well, aside from grace. more on that in a sec). She's a History major and an administrator and She Loves Humanity, but it's a characteristic that when analyzed deeper rings pretty hollow (possibly because the author thinks social analysis/critique in science fiction is stupid and thus doesn't exactly have much to say about People like someone in the humanities would. SAD!) so that's an addition to her character from the movie that i'm deeply pleased about. what i don't like as much is that the bid for connection starts from grace.
because book stratt and grace? the one sidedness of their rapport is the driving emotional conflict of the entire pre-launch plotlineâand of grace's character development throughout the whole book.
like most scientists on the team, grace was brought onto the project by force, but he's the only one who fulfilled his purpose, was allowed to return to his own life, and then came back of his own volition, out of a sense of personal duty and responsibility. which is the reason stratt takes him back on! and why she begins to rely on him more and more, as an administrator, as a mediator, as a scientist, as an advisor. she has all the more reason to do that when she discovers he's coma resistant, but she was already doing all that baby!
grace spends the rest of their relationship half-assing that sense of responsibility. one thing i adore about book phm is how merciless it is with grace's "modesty" "insecurity" and "social anxiety". children are easy to dote on. they're not stupid, obviously, but on an interpersonal level they're not your equal, they have no way to actually demand accountability from you and call your ass out. he doesn't actually think he's a failure, he's not blind he should know damn well he's not like the other scientists. "science lapdog", "ooo i'm just a little guy cmonnnn i'm just a middle school teacher", he downplays his own importance because if he genuinely grappled with the level of responsibility she holds him to towards the people in the project he'd run like a fucking dog.
he is a good man AND he is a coward. stratt's relationship with him verges on the tension between those coexisting truths. he is both someone she wants to respect but can't, someone she can rely on but has to act behind his back least he realizes. she WANTS them to be equals, she WANTS him to understand. on the day the hail mary is scheduled for launch she paces HIS prison cell like SHE'S the caged animal, trying to get through to the glimpse of the man she saw that day, the one who barged into an FBI guarded facility, looked atlas in the eye and told her scoot over, i'm carrying this with you. she cares about him. she wouldn't feel so betrayed if she didn't. please understand why i'm doing this to you. please understand why i need you to be that fundamentally good man. i am tied to the tracks right next to you. and as far as she is concerned, ryland grace dies on earth saying "no".

Local house witch telling you to please learn basic housekeeping skills.
Itâs not your fault if no one ever taught you but YouTube is a magical place and can teach you at your own pace.
Someone asked me what housekeeping skills Iâd recommend learning.
Keep in ming that this is not me shaming you, I know you have your reasons, folks. This is just a guy who enjoys clean spaces asking that you start learning now.
Hereâs what I suggest as an adult who has lived with other adults who didnât have housekeeping skills:
First and foremost, learn about all the places in your house that need to be cleaned and understand how often they should be cleaned. the American Cleaning Institute (I guess thatâs a thing) has a good article about basic cleaning info. Plus this video on cleaning tips is great!
Learn how to do your dishes. HOT water is the only way to clean your dishes.
Learn how to clean your shower head, especially if you live in a place with hard water. Same goes for your sinks.
Learn how to do your laundry correctly. Even without the whole âseparating whites and colorsâ thing, there are things you need to learn about washing your clothes. Learn what the tags mean, too.
Also, you donât have to use fabric softener and you shouldnât use it on towels or any fabric meant to absorb. (Learn about laundromats) And please learn how to clean out your dryer vent, itâs a safety hazard!
Get a disinfecting cleaner for your high-touch areas, especially the gross ones like the bathroom. Just because it doesnât look dirty, doesnât mean itâs clean!
Learn how to sweep, mop, and vacuum effectively.
Youâll also want to make sure to change out your homeâs air filters.
TL;DR, here are some cleaning videos.
How to Clean Everything in Your Bathroom
How to Clean Everything in Your Kitchen
Livingroom Cleaning Routine
How to Clean Everything in Your Bedroom
Now these resources are not the end-all-be-all, but I think if you donât know much about cleaning your space this is a good way to start.
hereâs some of the things that are helping me actually clean (as an adult who had messy parents, and has a hard time getting threw my nurodivergency about cleaning specifically) that may be helpful to you:
Favorite Cleaning Book: it helps you work through the emotional side of cleaning (and other care tasks)
Current Favorite Decluttering Method/Concept: it helps you know how much is too much to keep and how to get started when youâre overwhelmed. (having too much stuff makes it incredibly hard to clean/organize.)
Basic Cleaning Skills: this channel is amazing! this man has a special interest in cleaning and cleans peopleâs spaces who deal nurodivergence that make it hard to clean. he does this for free (or at a deficit because he pays for supplies and dumpsters and transport and such) and does it all with empathy and kindness working With the people as much as people can handle instead of just coming in to âfixâ an issue. these videos are a bit different from his usual ones, (the last oneâs most like his usual videos) but i find having the sped up cleaning videos with a voiceover can help fill in for body doubling when im too ashamed to bring people into my messy spaces.
Iâm gonna queue this as well so youâll be seeing it again from me in a few months without any comments on it, but this is all good things to know
i donât want to read lgbtq fiction i want to read genre fiction with lgbtq protags

thatâs all iâve got right now! iâm a lesbian so the lesbian section has the most books in it lol, but if anyone else wants to add some more books for gbt people (especially trans because Yikes that section is small), that would be awesome!
Reblogging this again to add some. A lot of these are mixed groups, so Iâve left them loosely organized, genre in bold:
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin - Dystopian Fantasy. PoC cast, transgender, gay, and bisexual characters.
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray - Historical Fantasy. Lesbian and bisexual characters.
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater - Urban Fantasy. Gay and bisexual perspective characters.
The Circle by Mats Strandberg & Sara Elfgren - Urban Fantasy/Horror - Lesbian and bisexual perspective characters.
On The Edge of Gone by Corinne Duyvis â Post-Apolcalyptic/Sci-Fi - Transgender characters
And I Darken by Kiersten White - Historical Fiction - Gay (and bisexual???) perspective characters.Â
âą We are the Ants by Shaun David Hutcherson- Sci-fi/Coming of Age- Gay and transgender mc
âą Dont Let the Forest In by CG Drews- definitely has a romantic plotline but its an amazing Botanical Horror- Gay and asexual mc, bisexual mc
âą Hazelthorn by CG Drews- see above, this one has AMAZING plot twists- Gay mc
âą City of Strife by Claudie Arseneault- Amazing worldbuilding!! Fantasy novel with multiple perspectives all along the race/class/gender spectrum- Gay mc, bisexual female mc, aroace spec ms, trans mc and side characters along with some neopronoun users- I dont think I finished this book but i think about it all the time lol its SO GOOD. Its part of a series.
âą Thistlefoot by GennaRose- YA/Modern Folk retelling/Urban Fantasy/Goodreads also has it down as a Horror lol- Lesbian mcs, trans character (not sure if youd consider them side or main)
âą Radio Silence by Alice Oseman- YA/Coming of Age- Bisexual woc mc, demisexual mc, gay moc mc, lesbian (im pretty sure, but def queer) side character
âą Iâll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson- Romance/Coming of Age/YA Fiction- gay mcs- I know this one sounds like it goes against the point of the list but it really devles into family dynamic and two siblings overcoming grief, there just happens to be a queer romance plot that runs alongside it. Genuinely one of my favorite books.
âą The Starless Sea by Emma Morgenstern- had to end this on my favorite Fantasy book of all time, featuring a romantic plotline but other book with intensive worldbuilding and in depth characters, gay moc mc, and sapphic side characters

The more Deadpool comics i read, the less i feel like Ryan Reynolds fits him and that makes me feel....odd, like kinda left out from all the love this casting is getting. He was really good as Wade Wilson in X-men Origins, his Weapon 11 is terrible and an insult to the character of Deadpool tho.
But when he got his own movie he was just Ryan Reynolds, and i know, i know "ofc he is, he's played by Ryan" sure but....that just feels off for me, and i wanted to know why, and i think i got it.
Firstly it's the way he talks, Ryan has this tone of voice that doesn't fit the way Wade usualy talks in the comics, his kinda high smooth sarcastic tone feels off to me. Partly because Wade doesn't sound like that at all, Wade has a very rough voice, sounding like Demi Moore, his voice sounds like wet gravel, according to Cable and Blind Al. Ellie, his daughter, said his voice sounds weird, whitch Wade said it's because of the scar tissue.
Also the way he talks, his jokes and the tone of his voice doesn't fit the DP energy. Fabian Nicieza, Deadpools co-creator and writer of most of his 90s appereances before Kelly wrote the first run, said he imaged Wade to sound like Denis Leary, whitch for the ones not aware, is a very unhinged and agressive sounding man, and it fits perfectly the way he talks.
Also Fox!Wade's humor isn't really the same as comics!Wade, movie Wade uses references, complicated swears and names with alot of sarcasm. Comics Wade meanwhile?
Not so much, he also doesn't even break the 4th wall as often usualy, some of those aren't even too obvious 4th wall breaks.
One thing i feel like the movies got right is Wades softness, he's a very emotional man, especialy when it comes to relationships and other people.
One thing the moves didn't quite get right is Wade and his violence problems, in his first comics he was fighting with his violence, his past, he was trying to be better after years of being a villian, and that change is often brought by his nee crush or love interest or idol, because he wants to be better for them, even if he usualy doesn't feel worthy of their love, yet he tries and tries.
There was a deleted scene in one of the movies where he and Vanessa were in Mexico and Wade lost it and killed the scamming doctor and it perfectly showed Wades issues.
His relationships were also all made simpler, Weasel is his fuctional friend, Ness is his girlfriend, Al is his funny roommate and friend. Back then Wade and his relationships weren't simple, he was like Moon Knight, he experimented, he wasn't very known, he was allowed to be odd and weird and out there. And i blame the game tbh, because now the movie was heavily influenced by what the internet thinks Deadpool is and the character is suffering for it now. Maybe i am just a jaded edgy 18yo but that's how i feel.
Now you're propably thinking what would my solution be, well i got a solution in mind, but you most likely won't wanna hear it...but i will still tell you in the next post.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one immediately questioning the voice. Marvel Comics in the 90s didn't do the "each character gets their own color" thing, different or off-color word bubbles were comic book shorthand for "this character's voice is very noticeably Not Normal." Wade's never spoken in "normal" word bubbles post-mutation. Characters have described it as gravely, coarse, grating, etc. Ryan Reynolds, while his performance was excellent, was just NOT what I expected to hear. Even Nolan North's version surprised me, although I feel like he did at least try to lean into making Deadpool sound manic/unpredictable as a way to make his voice strange.
There's a lot I do like about the movie version - like you said, I'm glad they highlighted his big 'ol heart. It would have been SO easy to cash in on a movie full of violence, sex, and fart jokes, I'm glad they took the time to give it more soul than that.
But I totally agree that it feels like "something's missing," and it's probably the anger. We see a little bit - but not the impulsive, vindictive kind of rage he has in so many of his earlier comic runs.
That deleted scene would have fit super well! More than likely it got cut because 2 hours isn't much time, you can't show TOO much of Wade as a "bad guy" if you want the audience to like him - and "impulsive, extreme violence" isn't very likable.
...but maybe it could be. Frankly, I've had some shit experiences with healthcare institutions - watching Wade go berserk and kill a shady doctor would just make me want to hug him and never let go. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
The success of the movies may have something to do with why even his recent comic book portrayals feel a little... "declawed," now that I think about it.
GOD yes!!! finally i see people talking about these things that have also bothered me!! I was gonna go off on wade's voice bu then i realized the addition to the post would be too long so i decided to make my own post on that specifically
Hard agree on the point about the humor! I really didnt find it funny when he says those swearwords that sound like theyre from 2013 (''holy fucking shitballs'' etc), he doesnt even swear that often in the comics?? Ryan fought tooth and nail for that R-rating which he should have but it seems they didnt know what else to do with it except gore, so they just chucked in random swearwords for characters so say (getting Colossus to say fuck in the 2nd movie; also Cable calling wade a cunt??? really? Cable wouldnt talk like that)
@spider-mand hit the nail on the head with the declawed comment! The movies have definitely washed him out a bit, took away some of his edges - he's less mean, less conflict-seeking, less impulsive, more mellow? He's also more established and normal when in the comics he's anything but - his life is a mess and all of his personal relationships are messy. In the movies, despite everything, his life is relatively okay while he has Vanessa.
Im guessing all of this was done to make him more likable to the general public but i dont think he should be so easy to root for. In the comics you ofc root for him as well, but you also see him do some very stupid and bad things - you disapprove but what makes you like him is that once he becomes aware of his issues - he makes an effort to do something about it. he's not an arrogant character in the sense that he believes everything he does is right - he points out so many times that he's done bad things during his life he's not proud of, his self-hate is clear, he's aware he acts like a douchebag and sabotages his own life because of his faults. I think more people should be more scared of him - Weasel, Al, other mercenaries in Sister Margaret's, the x-men hello??? In the comics almost all characters interact with him with caution - as if hes a loose canon, which they have every right to do, based on his reputation? Hes a crazy capable but also unpredictable and extremely violent which makes him a scary guy!
Also another issue i have with the movies is that they are too optimistic, yeah tragic things happened ofc, but the overall tone is optimistic. The genre is undoubtedly a comedy, and i think it should have been a dark comedy instead, or a gritty tragic movie with comedic elements.
Like for example, the first movie ended with the romantic ending about true love and whatnot. Why? Wade and Vanessa's relationship in the comics is nothing but messy, i honestly think they should have just left it at the fact that he abandonded her and that was it. The ending would have felt more real, raw and not so happy bc i think a big part of Wade's character and the comics is the weird balance between humor and tragedy. Sometimes life just goes to shit, this is who he is now and his life isnt great, its never been. Then they continue this dynamic in the second movie, w and v live together and even plan to have a child?? this is SO out of character for me, why would wade ever voluntarily become a parent when we know he would never think he is capable of this?? even before ellie's existence, this should be obvious, and when he meets her he can barely bring himself to say the word 'father'
not to end on a negative note - i agree that the movie did a lot of this right and ryans performance was good. they showed how vulnerable he is, that he has morals indeed and is gentle towards kids
Altean redesigns
It's been actual months since I said I would share my Altean redesigns, and I'm finally getting around to doing it! So sorry to leave y'all hanging.
SO! Just like last time, my friend @adaphyl and I have been working on a Voltron rewrite, and it started with me yapping about the Alteans and how I wished the show had done more with them. So I redesigned/rewrote Alteans while Ada redesigned/rewrote the Galra.
There's more I'd like to do with their designs and maybe revamp, but these were the ideas I had back when we started this rewrite (nov 11, 2023).
So to start, I only did Allura, Coran, and Romelle, I'll eventually get around to drawing more but for now this is what we've got. There's a lot of lore I've written for Altea but it's just too much to get into here, so I'll condense it to the important bits.
I remembered in the show Allura mentioning Alteans were a "chameleon-like species", and it always annoyed me how that only translated to them having shapeshifting abilities. I never understood why they were just elves. So, I actually made them more chameleon like.
They have markings along their body, the color indicating sex like with actual lizards (female Alteans have darker markings while male Alteans have brighter colors), their skin tones have a green undertone, larger lizard-like eyes, small horns on their head, as well as three toes and fingers on each hand/foot. (There are also albino Alteans who have less markings, and regardless of sex their markings tend to be red or pink, but that's not really relevant to this post... perhaps a future post though...)
I also imagine that Alteans, because they're a lizard like people, get their energy from the sun. Because of this they worship a sun goddess. You'll see lots of gold or sun symbols throughout their clothing because of this.
However, you'll notice that Romelle looks a bit different. She's a special case, coming from the colony and not Altea proper. Because the Colony was about a few thousand years after Altea's destruction, a lot of culture was lost. Lotor, having not grown up on Altea or learning the culture, had to piece together what he could. In our rewrite Honerva did come from an alternate reality, and in her reality Alteans are a bit different.
Alt!Alteans get their energy from the moon rather than the sun, they worship a moon goddess. Lotor when building the colony wasn't sure which reality did which, and so the colony worships both goddesses. Romelle also wears a mix of masculine and feminine clothing that was common on Altea, again more of Lotor just not being entirely sure + thousands of years of culture slowly being lost. Romelle also has sharper teeth because of thousands of years spent spread out throughout the galaxy, Alteans began to evolve to adapt to different enviroments. (Also you'll notice Romelle's bright markings, I hc Romelle to be a trans woman so :) )
i do always feel a little bit silly being deeply opinionated about media for little children but ultimately i think that children deserve to have good art made for them. i think children Especially deserve to have good art made for them, as an audience that is still in the earliest stages of getting to learn what art even is and what it can be. kids need bizarre and innovative and compelling and sincere stuff made for them too. otherwise you end up with adults who think you have to be on psychedelics to make anything that has a different narrative structure than a marvel movie.

"Fighting the urge to heavily sigh, because thatâs not what civilian Peter Parker should be doing at gunpoint, he slowly turns. The tip of the pistol drags around his frame and he wonders if he should look more cowed.
âDeadpool.â
The mercenary huffs, sliding the pistol up Peterâs coat lapels until it snags underneath his badge. âDoes Spidey gossip about me or is nosing about the vigilantes in this town a side effect of your last profession?â"
(Non-exhaustive bc I'll probably add more later lol)
We all know Deadpool is a little lot obsessed with Spider-Man, but what if, after they got together, Spidey was the more possessive of the two
It makes so much sense
Deadpool is so open, so warm and touchy
Spidey has always been more reserved, but he never complains about Deadpool being all over him â and he knows Deadpool is different with him, he hugs him, kisses him, leans on him, takes his mask off both literally and figuratively
But when Deadpoolâs with other people, he also touches their arm, pats them on the back, shakes hands and bumps shoulders
Perfectly normal and platonic actions
The eyes of Spideyâs mask narrow to slits anyway
The image of an angry Spider-Man standing behind Deadpool as he meets and greets is normally enough to scare off most sensible people
If they donât get the message, heâll pull Deadpool away, subtly of course, with a hand on the small of his back or the back of his neck, sometimes just clearing his throat will do
Heâs never worried about Deadpool. He knows he loves him. He knows that nothing will tear them apart, especially not something so stupid
Heâs worried about someone trying to take whatâs his. He doesnât think he could handle someone even attempting to take Deadpool away, and he couldnât handle Deadpool being hurt
Spidey makes sure Deadpool knows heâs loved and that he knows he belongs with him
(extra cause idk where to put it)
Spidey being selfishly satisfied with the fact that Deadpool got out of the mercenary business when they got close
He's proud that Deadpool is free to make his own decisions, and he's in charge of his own morals
But now, Spider-Man is quite literally the only person that Deadpool will take instructions from. He is the only person that Deadpool will allow to have a say in any aspect of his life
Spidey feels so lucky to be given Deadpool's trust. God he loves him so much
