I’m elated to tell you that my 9th studio album, and folklore’s sister record, will be out tonight at midnight eastern. It’s called evermore. To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs. To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in. I’ve never done this before. In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning. I loved the escapism I found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales. I loved the ways you welcomed the dreamscapes and tragedies and epic tales of love lost and found into your lives. So I just kept writing them. And I loved creating these songs with Aaron Dessner, Jack Antonoff, WB, and Justin Vernon. We’ve also welcomed some new (and longtime) friends to our musical kitchen table this time around…

here are some reminders and advices in case you needed them today:
🌸 remember to drink water! it boosts skin health, it helps maintain blood pressure, it improves energy and it clears toxins. 🌸 don’t forget to take your meds! if you tend to forget about it, you can use specific apps such as “Medication Reminder & Pill Tracker” to help you.
🌸 don’t forget to eat. skipping meals can only add to your mood swings and stress.
🌸 take some time for yourself today. listen to some good music without any distractions, paint something silly, go for a walk if you feel like going outside, write something, meditate. do whatever makes you feel at peace.
🌸 get enough sleep. i think the benefits of getting enough sleep are pretty clear. it detoxes the brain, it gives you more energy, it improves your mood.
🌸 relax. unclaw your jaw. relax your shoulders. breathe.
🌸 you are loved. your feelings are valid and you matter.
please, take care of yourself! all the love.
A SIGN TO STAY ALIVE
If you are looking for a sign to stay alive, this is it. This is your sign to keep going. This is your sign to reach out to someone. This is your sign to keep breathing, because I can assure you, your existence DOES make a difference in this universe, even if you see it or not. Please, take care of yourself.
when i was depressed those “reasons not to kill yourself” lists never helped.. maybe they do for some people but for me they actually made me feel worse. it was like….here’s a reminder that there are all these things other people find joy in that you can’t. with a sprinkle of guilt because “your family/friends will miss you.”
what i needed to hear, and so what i’ll tell any of you reading this who are in the same situation, was: a lot of people recover from mental illness and go on to live full lives. it’s quite likely that with treatment, a time will come when you won’t want to die anymore and you’ll find joy in everyday life. yes, you. stay alive for that possibility.
