Carol Burnett
1975 Fashion Illustration
A Bob Mackie mixed medium costume illustration of Carol Burnett wearing a color-blocked evening gown with a chiffon overlay for The Carol Burnett Show, season nine, episode one, with guest star Jim Nabors.
An A-line silhouette floor-length evening gown in poly crepe. An apricot, blush, and dark brown chiffon overlay sewn into the neckline freely hangs over the fitted gown for a diaphanous effect. The collar features a sequin fabric flower that matches the apricot and blush chiffon of the gown. A Bob Mackie label is sewn on the interior of the garment.
Carol Burnett and Bob Mackie had a unique design relationship. He was able to fashion and design costumes for her variety show, glamorous gowns and dresses for opening monologues, and amusing costumes for Burnett's sketches. Carol Burnett wrote on a photograph of herself, "For Bob, whose eye for detail is unsurpassed. Gratefully, Carol."
Bob Mackie began his career working with some of the most acclaimed Hollywood costume designers, Jean Louis and Edith Head. In 1963, he began working with Ray Aghayan for CBS's The Judy Garland Show, then went on to work and collaborate with Carol Burnett, Cher, and Diana Ross. Mackie’s satiric eye, referencing films from the Golden Age of cinema, and beaded nude illusion pieces became style hallmarks for the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. His designs continue to attract the interest of new generations of performers and celebrities.

Happy Birthday🎂🍻 to Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales 👑 "On January 9, 2025, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Celebrates her 43rd Birthday"
HAPPY 43RD BIRTHDAY TO MY QUEEN HRH THE PRINCESS OF WALES, CATHERINE ELIZABETH (b. 9 january 1982) ♡
Wishing a very happy birthday to HRH The Princess of Wales, the future Queen of the UK and the Commonwealth Realms, Prince William's "Babykins," the supermom to the cutest three cupcakes, the champion of mental health and early childhood awareness, the teflon-coated strong queen, and our favorite girlie – Catherine. I’ve been following Catherine since I was a child. I saw her get engaged to her "prince boyfriend," which fulfilled all my disney princess-obsessed dreams as a kid. I remember skipping school to watch her marry the love of her life in THE royal wedding. And over the years, I’ve watched them welcome three adorable babies together. She’s an inspiration, and I’m so happy and proud of the work she has done and continues to do. She’s kind, warm, beautiful, hardworking, and sweet and watching her grow into her public role has been both a privilege and a joy. I simply cannot wait for the day she becomes the Queen alongside her King. This past year has been a difficult one, to say the least, but she has battled through it all with strength and resilience, and I couldn’t be prouder of her. I hope Catherine receives all the love from her family and spends a fabulous day filled with happiness. She deserves that and so much more. Love you to the moon and beyond, Cat ♡
