Animating a thing for my reelÂ
So, i usually donât post ruff passes of my animation but I have had more than a couple of people request that I do. Â So here we go :)
This is typically about where I would get a shot in itâs first pass before I show a director. Sometimes, if I have the time, I will go in there and tighten up some of the drawings just a bit so that the director completely understands my intention with the shot.Â
In this particular case this was actually the very last shot I animated while at DreamWorks. I technically had finished my last shot with about 3 days left to go on my contract, so, to try and be a good sport and help get some more footage in I ruffed this out knowing I wouldnât be able to finish it.
When doing a pass like this you really are only focusing on the main, crucial parts of a shot. There, generally, are many things that arenât fully realized yet and making âpretty drawingsâ as they say is something you leave for later. I canât say my ruffâs arenât very fun too look at. Glen Keaneâs ruffs are fun to look at, Rune Bennickeâs are fun to look at. Mine are more functional than anything⊠simply a set up to try and do nice drawings when I tie things down.Â
In an effort to be more transparent for the benefit of anyone learning animation I am posting this specifically for their edification.
Hi everyone! Iâve got a couple of posts lined up, but first: Please check out this totally awesome promotional music video for League of Legendsâ upcoming championships!
I got the chance to work with Studio La Cachette and animate a short cut for it. My cut is the explosion near the end, and you can check out some unfinished animation here:
^Drawn (and eventually colored) in ToonBoom Harmony. The whole short is really so well done, and itâs honestly an honor to be a (small) part of it!
Other things:
1) I got to do a little bit of attack animation for upcoming video game Indivisible recently. It was a lot of fun, actually.
2) Thereâs another project that should be starting up soon that Iâm reeeeally excited for.
3) Yeah, uh, for real, Iâm going to start that patreon thing. School supplies and programs are expensive
4) Another project dropped today, and Iâll show yall in the next post!
I know I donât post a lot, but thanks for your patience with me! (especially if youâve recently followed)
Boone!! For obvious reasons I wanted Boone to have a goofy walk. Speaking again to the nature of âcharacter buildingâ of having contrasts and contradictions within a character. The archetype Boone fulfills is that of the âwisemanâ or wizard. So, the obvious contrast for the sake of comedy is to have a goofy guy play that role.
Something else, for me, is that I wanted their walks to be specific and distinct. One of the first things many live-action actors do is work out the walks of their characters. Many donât feel they have a window in to their characters until they crack that. I feel the same.
When I was a boy, we used to have a little Yorkshire Terrier, of which I have many special memories. I guess she was the main inspiration for the main character in my graduation film from a couple of years back (2010 actually). For the animation, I used Moho, before they had all the nifty features like smartbones etc. The backgrounds are a combination of a 3D mock-up and photoshop.  Bonus points if you can find the hidden nod to our beloved little doggie!
â€â€â€â€very good!!!
Finally, here it is, The Adventures of Indiana Jones! Itâs been a long journey getting this made and Iâm very excited to finally share it with you all! I hope you will have fun watching it as much as I had making it and please let me know what you thought of it.
Get that whip crackinâ!

I started animating this last year using Flash, since it was the only thing available to me at the time. This was all straight ahead, I didnât really have anything planned. I just started drawing a guy with a sword and the result is what you see here. This is Part 1.Â
