 âI donât think anyone whoâs usually ignored actually likes it being like that. Speaking from experience. The whole thingâs not for everyone, but thatâs why some of us arenât going.â
âWow, call me crazy, but this dance stuff is so dumb. Besides, who would be content and not die out of not knowing who anyone is? I would curl up and die.â
 âIt might be dumb, but not knowing isnât that big of a deal. It probably helped out people who usually get ignored. Or shy people.â
Lockâs nose wrinkled at the sudden smell of nacho chips filling his nose, holding back a sneeze he simply wriggled his nose around like some type of small baby mouse. His hand arose to whack off whatever was bothering him and he effectively knocked down the towering chips, making them land all over Oliverâs hair and face.
He lazily pulled the blankets close to his chest, along with Oliver so his lips brushed against the little oneâs ear, though he moved his head up before anything could happen and the pupâs curly hair suddenly got into Lockâs face, making him scrunch it up at the tickling sensation; once again the scent of cheese wafted through his senses.
âWhat the fucK..â Lock groaned out in a mumble and once again moved his head down so his soft lips accidently brushed against Oliverâs cheek, the cool metal of his snake bite piercings nipping against the poor boyâs fragile skin. He then mumbled once again in a grumpy manner, though it was inaudible. The sounds of chains clanging against metal boats echoed from the loud TV, making Lock flinch only slightly and his eyelids to flutter open only a little; though a sudden stop of movements would make him fall asleep again.
 Oliver couldnât help but laugh as the chip tower fell onto him. Lock had ruined it, but it wasnât like heâd killed all of them entirely, and the fact that something like that had actually made him move. Grinning, Oli got what he could back into the bag and ate the rest before he was pulled close with the blanket.
 There was another squeak when his ear was touched and then Lock shifted and what was even happening. Jeez, if the chips had bugged him enough to move, all of this wouldâve woken him up, right? Apparently not, since there was just more grumbling, but no actual full sentences.
 The next thing Oli knew, there was accidental lips on his cheek and dear god, his face was not supposed to be this hot unless he was sick. Still, there was more mumbling and grumpy noises and the tv was really loud. Was he waking up? Oh no, he was gonna wake up and think Oli was creepy and beat him up. Very subtly, the younger shifted, getting ready to run off. He wasnât gonna die today.
Lockâs grip grew stronger around Oliverâs smaller waist as he unconsciously brought the poor boy to his broad chest like some type of stuffed animal or fluffy pillow. He wore nothing but a pair of black boxers and a white t-shirt. But surely this would be the least of the pupâs concern.
A soft snore left him as he snuggled deeper into the sheets and unfortunately for the pup, he soon had lifted a heavy leg and thrown it over Oliverâs waist so he had no chance to move the lower portion of his body. The brute was too deep in his sleep to notice what he was doing, so forget about the small voice that questioned Lockâs actions.
âNot the cake..â Lock mumbled gruffly underneath his breath, eyelashes fluttering slightly though his breathes remained collected and his features remained relaxed.
 When Oli was pulled closer, he couldnât help the odd squeak that escaped him as his eyes went wide. Okay, barely-dressed dude was not going to let go any time soon. Oh great.
 Then, he found that there was a leg was pinning him down too, and Lock probably wasnât going to be waking up any time soon, if what he was doing was any indication. No way heâd be like this if he was actually awake. Still, at least Oliverâs arms were free, so he wasnât going to starve to death or anything.
 âAlright, not the cake, weirdo,â the boy mumbled with a roll of his eyes, stretching slightly for his snacks. So what if Lock was being weird and asleep, he was going to have his food and watch his damn sharks...Right after he tried stacking some of the chips on Lockâs face. For science.
Like hell Lock was going to the Masquerade Ball. Especially after what had happened this week, with both friends he considered family members, up and leaving him behind like some fuckinâ lost puppy. And there was that girl with the blonde hair and fiery blue eyes. Fuck, what was her name again? Ahh, itâs not like Lock should give a shit anyway, though it was very suspicious that the gal had left the same day Shock and Barrel did. Perhaps she had something to do with it.Â
But, enough of that. Here Lock was. Cuddling up in a fluffy beige blanket, and body laid out on a lounging cough. His imbecilic roommate made far too much noise while getting ready for the Ball, and because killing was frowned upon in the academy or just society in general, he chose the latter of sleeping somewhere else. Currently he was snuggling up to his pillow and pulling the blanket up to his face. His eyelids were closed and eyebrows were relaxed, red lips parted slightly into a look of such peacefulness. His dark aura was gone in this state, he looked much the opposite as he did when he was awake.Â
A few moments later, a tired groan left his lips and his messy white hair was everywhere; though it was shorter than it usually was as his forehead bangs were cut. With the tired groan, he reached his arms out, effectively wrapping them around someoneâs waist and bringing them down so he cuddled them to his chest with a tight grip. He pulled them close to his chest and snuggled them like a bear. Something heâd NEVER do when awake.
 Oliver had skipped the ball for two main reasons: he didnât have anything to wear, and even if he did, it wouldnât have gone well. With a sad face, the sixteen-year-old drifted from his room, his torn up clothes making him feel more ashamed of himself than normal as he slid past people in the fanciest clothes heâd ever seen. Making a face to himself, he ducked into a kitchen, grabbing himself a snack of veggie chips and juice before quietly slipping out to find somewhere to hide.
 He found himself in a room that was already occupied, but that didnât really matter, since he just saw Lock, who was...asleep. Double safe! With a grin, Oliver went to sit on the one bit of couch that Lock wasnât taking up, and switched on the TV. Surely Lock wouldnât mind it if he woke up and Oli was there, out of all people. The kid at least thought he was one of the people that Lock could stand in the school, so he wasnât going to die at least. Besides, sleeping Lock was even less harm than usual.
 Just as the skinny boy was about to open his drink, there was a noise from his side, and suddenly, there were arms around him. What. Curiously, Oliver looked down, taking a very confused moment to come to the conclusion that, yes, that was Lock, and yes he was being yanked down for snuggles. Whaaaaaaat. Was he supposed to say something? What was happening? Oh dear god.
 âLock...?â
 Oliver was stretched out on a common room couch, enjoying Shark Week and his veggie chips. He was sort of glad he was mostly alone. His work out today hadnât gotten bad, but he was really sore and didnât want to move for anyone. Worth it for the abs, he supposed, focus on the screen and not the person who had come in.
âDamn, are you pmsing or something? I didnât realize that boys had periods, but wow.â Shock stated with a smirk as the boy seemed to get hostile.
 âOh, donât start. Youâre the biggest bitch I know, you wouldnât help me anyway,â the boy grumbled. He wanted his sister back and he didnât want to be alone, and he definitely didnât want to deal with this girl right now.
Lockâs expression stood calm as Oliverâs own features fell, all together, into sorrow and agony. Both from emotion and the way he pushed his body to continue working which again, would ultimately end him in passing out. The elder knew what Oliver felt at the moment. Heâd been through it himself and still was going through it, though a few methods and a few people throughout the years helped him forget the hole expanding in his chest. He knew that whatever Oliver kept inside was now collapsing down on him like a ton of bricks. He knew the pain heâd be feeling in his chest, the tearing sensation of his ribs striking through his heart. As if his sense of worth was slowly diminishing. Lock was a professional when it came to these feelings after all.
Lock nearly narrowed his eyes in boredom at Oliverâs line of cuss words, though that action would stop all at once when Oliverâs strength was seconds away from snapping on him. Lockâs thought process came down on him quickly. It was between catching the boy or simply letting him fall. If heâd let him fall it would be out of teaching him a lesson. To not disrespect Lock and listen to him the next time he said something. This was exactly the reason why Lock no longer gave any shits. Well, this, and among other things. People always acted fuckinâ mentally deficient whenever Lock gave them true and worthy advice. They always ended up fucked in the ass and not in the fun way at the end and usually asked Lock for help in that moment, which eventually made him give no shits whatsoever. No matter what kind of trouble they were in.
Lock's lip twitched at his final decision and nearly sighed. In a reflex, he held his arms out, easily catching the pup in with a small grunt from the impact. He was definitely heavier than he looked.Â
âYouâre so dramatic,â He stated as he looked down at Oliver with a blank expression, although his eyes held a glint of sympathy. Only a pinch.
Slowly, he dropped Oliver onto the floor by his feet, quickly standing up to his tall stature and looked down at the puppy. âFuck that if nobody cares for you. Care for your damn self. Youâre not a fuckinâ baby anymore. Youâre a growinâ man and need to start lookinâ after yourself. Not everythinâ is gonna be all sunshine and rainbows kid. It rains and fuckinâ thunderstorms every once in a while.â He gestured to Oliverâs slick with sweat skin, dangerously shaking body, and paling lips from hunger. âLook at what youâre doin to yourself man. Itâs fuckinâ disgustinâ. If you wanna end up a lifeless body right there then be my fuckinâ guest. Just know that my cohorts and I would love to do some experimentinâ on you. You ainât even gonna have enough remains for a casket.â He shrugged a nonchalant shoulder. Yes, his tone was undecipherable. You couldnât tell whether or not he was faking the threat. But Iâll give you a hintâŚ.heâs most likely lying.
Well, maybe.
Walking over to grip Oliverâs things, Lock then walked over to the exit, implying that he would get Oliver to eat a meal or atleast eat a damn protein bar. All he knew was that no little pup was gonna die today.
Just for today.
 Oliver was extremely surprised when he was caught, but felt automatically devastated anyway, since there was a grunt and good god he definitely weighed too much... âIâm not dramatic, Iâm...â he couldnât find the words, but the only one that echoed through his head was âpatheticâ, which was practically the same thing. So he felt silent, and once he was on the floor, he just curled up on himself, trying to shut everything out. His feelings, his hunger, Lock, everything. But it definitely wasnât working...
 âDo it then. Donât let any little bit of me be left. It wonât matter anyway, I donât have friends, I donât have a family, I donât matter. I havenât mattered since I was five, and nothingâs gonna change that. Besides, my disgusting body doesnât deserve a burial in the first place,â he said, softly, making sure he had control of his voice and himself. He wasnât going to cry, or shake, or show pain, even if he felt like his bones were breaking under his skin. He wasnât going to give anyone the satisfaction.
 When Lock moved away, Oliver didnât move. He didnât feel like he could anyway, his legs would probably collapse under him if he tried. Let Lock call him disgusting and dramatic and stupid all he wanted, Oliver knew that he was right, that he was going to be alone and miserable, and he was disgusting and useless. He knew, and he wasnât even going to protest if Lock ended up just taking his stuff.
âAlright Vivian, letâs try not to make him wait 10 minutes.â she mumbled to herself, dropping her bag on the bench as she went to rinse her face off in the sink. She knew something was off with Oliver and wanted to talk to him about itâŚ.but at the same time, she didnât want to press and make it awkward and uncomfortable. If she asked, wouldnât she be nosy? On the contrary, if she didnât, wouldnât she seem kind of oblivious or ignorant? The girl sighed as she finished changing clothes, tucking everything back into her bag and brushing her hair before heading out into the hall. âHey,â she smiled, âSo, you have any place in mind?â
 âNo, no ideas...I just sort of wanted to have something...healthy. Iâm trying to get in shape,â he said with a small grin. He wasnât going to mention how disgusting he felt, or how he was really only going to eat to keep himself from passing out. She didnât have to know about that. âIâll go wherever you want.â With that, he gave a cheesy grin that didnât reach his eyes, and a thumbs-up with his left hand, since it hurt less to flex any muscles there. He hadnât been as punching quite as hard.
âOne, I am not stupid. Something is wrong and itâs written all over your face. Two, itâs stupid to lie when I was thinking about trying to help, but whatever.â Shock shrugged and started to get up.
 Oliver scowled. Was it really that obvious? Because it definitely wasnât supposed to be... âI gotta take care of myself, Iâve been an orphan forever and Iâm almost a damn adult,â he said to himself, quietly. âI donât need help.â
Love Like Woe - The Ready Set
âCool alright, so,â she started, placing the rest of her things inside her bag before picking it up, âMeet you in the hallway? I wonât take forever, I swear.â she laughed, looking at him. Actually, now that she actually looked, she could tell he must have been going at it quite intensely before she got there. That would explain his bruises. âJust give me 10 minutes max.â she added, walking towards the locker room. The brunette dropped her smile the moment she reached the door, wondering what had happened to Oliver that had upset himâŚ
 âSounds good!â And as soon as she was at the locker room door, he disappeared into the boyâs, freaking out to himself. She knew and he was going to have to explain himself, and where was the first aid kit?! He took a moment to get himself under control, splashing cold water from a sink over his face and head. He didnât even try to dry himself off until he had wrapped up his knuckles. Sure, it looked suspicious, but it was better than showing off the bruises. Then he just shook his head to get rid of water, and went into the hall, standing there and looking like he was actually calm as he waited.
Her eyebrows furrowed. He was so chipper when she had first met him. The change in demeanor almost made it now less fun to mess with him. âWhatâs wrong, pup? You are a lot less sunshine and rainbows.â
 âNothingâs wrong,â he lied, keeping his words at that, not wanting to encourage her. Of course, for him, everything seemed wrong and heâd felt as lost as ever, but she didnât need to know that.
Vivian laughed at his comment, taking off her other glove. As he slipped off the mitts, she noticed his bruised knuckles, deciding to not mention it, for now. He was already doing a little better, it seemed, and she didnât want to bring him back down again. âPft, I donât hit that hard.â she smiled, dropping her things into her bag, âBut sure! Iâm getting kinda hungry also. Iâm just gonna go freshen up really quick, though, âkay?â
 âStill harder than Iâm used to,â he said with a smile and a shrug, glad that she might not have noticed the bruising. He really should have gone easier on himself... âOh, yeah, thatâs fine! I probably need to, too!â Of course, he didnât really have a change of clothes, but he could at least make an attempt to not be so gross.
âAre you kidding? Thatâs a super cool power. I mean I knew a girl once with super spit. The ability to make people more brave is 100 times more kickass than that.â
Sure she was laying on the flattery. But she really did think that was a cool power. There were a lot of people sheâd met who could never muster up the confidence to be brave on their own. Even if Oliver was obviously embarrassed at her responding to him. Though she did find it interesting that it always seemed like the people with mutations that help others pretty exclusively that were the most self-conscious of their powers.Â
 âYou think? I feel like gross super spit would be more useful, especially since I have to get my hands on people to make it work...Thank you, though. Youâre the first to say something nice about it.â
 Oliver could tell that she was laying it on sort of thick. It had been something heâd picked up over the years, but he wasnât going to point it out. This girl was genuinely being kind, and he wasnât going to say anything bad about it. It was quite rare that the boy got full-out compliments from people he didnât really know...So he just smiled.
Kicking and Screaming by All Time Low began blasting through her ear buds, and by now she was certain he could hear it and was probably silently judging her music taste. The song was good though, had a good beat for getting all her emotions out. Wrapping up the rep she was on, Vivian laughed at his comment, tugging off a glove to grab her water bottle. âThanks, I guess? Yeah, people donât usually expect me to hit hard. Actually, they usually donât believe me when I tell them i like boxing. Anyways, we can stop with the mitts now, do something both of us can do, yeah?â
 Ah, well, she had good taste in music for exercise, that was cool! âAh, it wasnât like an insult, or anything, youâre just...That was really hard,â he chuckled, sliding the mitts off and shaking out his hands. The bruises heâd gotten earlier were terribly obvious, but hopefully they wouldnât be mentioned. âWell, I didnât know you liked boxing before now, or Iâd be a little more prepared for how hard you hit!â he said with a grin. âUhm...could we maybe get a snack first? I just realized how hungry I am...â
