you just joined a new rp group , you’re SO excited. you love your character but when you open up a new post to tell all the other members about them ? nope. you close the draft. log off , never to be seen again. i’ve been there. here’s how u can tackle that intro without collapsing in on yourself.
tips for writing an intro .
first , i want to emphasize how important character intros are. even in groups where they are not required , i highly encourage you to write one! members don’t know who your character is yet! it’s also useful to organize your thoughts and fill in any gaps.
set up your blog theme & navigation. and fill up your tags!! i always do this , as soon as i’m accepted and before i send in my account. it always fills me with muse. this is the time to at least start drafting your intro , when your muse is at its highest ; who knows when you’ll get it back ?!
read other intros. see what others are saying or including in theirs. check the main for a template of questions to address , or even ask the admins if they have any prompts relating to the group’s world that you should include! that’s their job!! intros do not have to be stressful .
take a step back if you continue to struggle with what to write. if you force yourself to write words you’re going to get frustrated and you’re not going to happy with the resulting chaos of an intro ok!! i’m sure you have a pretty good idea of your character at this point , but if you don’t , now is a good time to flesh them out a little more.
introduce yourself right away in the intro. your alias , pronouns , a fun fact about yourself ? just break the ice that way. it’s a pretty standard way to start off an intro when you’re in a group! your muse is important , but it’s just as crucial to make yourself approachable to members with prospective plots!
pls don’t worry about a graphic. a lot of people have them or make them , but attaching just a gif or even no type of visual at all is not a crime. graphics are totally , and utterly , overrated. your character is awesome and you don’t need a fancy aesthetic to prove that!!
be brief. long biography-like paragraphs are amazing , but those are best kept on an about / bio page on your character’s blog , to be added to and updated as time goes on and the plot progresses! an intro is just that: an introduction. to spare your fellow members who have MANY intros to read, stick to the most important points for your intro post. that absolute need-to-knows.
that being said , for this next part , i suggest keeping each to one bullet point and less than 150 words. and you do not need to address all of them!! it depends so much on the rp. again , there are no rules for length!
some questions to get u started .
how old is your muse ? what is their gender ? their occupation ? where do they live ?
what was their childhood like ? why do they act the way they do ?
how do they act ? how do their traits project in their behavior ?
who was a big influence on their life , good or bad ?
what hardships have they faced ? what are their most defining & memorable experiences that have shaped them ?
where has your character been since the rp began ? explain their absence if you’ve just joined or the immediate events leading up to the group’s opening.
how are they taking the current situation / plot of the roleplay ? what role do they play that makes them crucial to the rp ?
what connections are you seeking for your muse and how can members contact you to discuss them ?
