The park was not a place Elody ever went to in the light of day. No, she was not going to have the town’s soccer moms toss sad looks her way and come up to her with well-wishes and promises of prayers. But, she’d always loved being outside, so she settled for going to the park in the evening for some fresh air and privacy. She started to hear music, and being nosy, approached the sound to see who it was, before they turned around, taking her by surprise. “Hi,” she said, returning the man’s smile with a soft one of her own. His question took her by surprise, but she answered bluntly, as she always did. “Maybe. Usually, I just come here for peace and quiet, but … I love the guitar. I used to play, back in high school.”
As the woman spoke, he gave her a kind smile. “That’s fair enough. This is probably the most serene spot in town,” he said with a shrug of his shoulders. “Thank you! That’s pretty awesome. How long has it been since you’ve picked it up and played?” He asked curiously, genuinely able to talk about music with just about anyone. Who knows? Maybe the girl could become someone he bonded with over music, it was certainly worth a try.Â
