the video starts with the sound of laughter immediately ringing through the air. max is already standing front and center with the camera pointed towards him. he's got his hands on his hips, like he's about to announce something important.
"today!" he starts, clapping his hands together, "we are doing something a little... special today. something that a lot of you have been highly requesting for a few years now."
you are standing just out of frame, smile on your face because you are both excited and nervous about what is about to happen.
"which is– lando vs. y/n!"
"this has been highly requested?" you asked with raised eyebrows, camera panning over to you at the sound of your voice. lando is standing right next to you – the both of you in matching quadrant racing suits that are halfway on, resting at your hips.
max continues without missing a beat, "everyone wants to know if y/n, lando's girlfriend–
"that's me!" you cut in excitedly with a laugh. lando grinning at you, his hand rubbing up and down your back.
"–can beat him in a race!" max continues, ignoring you which kind of makes the whole thing funnier. "and! to make it more interesting, every time she fails to beat his time, we upgrade her kart."
you tilt your head, doing a mock thinking pose, "interesting..." you trail off before a grin overtakes your face. "i think i can do it!"
the camera catches lando just looking at you, grin on his face as he's only watching you. eyes fixed on you like you all aren't in the middle of filming a video.
"it should be interesting," max says, finally turning to you and lando, having finished filming the intro part. "have you ever driven a go-kart before?"
"i have!" you say excitedly, "mostly indoor ones though. remember– that's how me and lando met!"
"i know," max sighs, "i was asking for the viewers."
"oh, right right," you laugh a little, slightly embarrassed.
you quickly recover when lando and max start explaining things about the kart: steering, braking, controls. however, it's clear that it all goes in one ear and out the other for you. still, you nod along like you're understanding everything.
lando steps closer as he gestures to the wheel. "you're gonna want to put extra strength into this arm," he says, tapping your bicep lightly, "otherwise it's harder to control and you might spin out."
"like in mario kart when you get hit with a blue shell."
"yeah– wait no," max says, your mario kart comment clearly catching him off guard for a moment, "if you spin out, you might end up in the wall." he adds expanding on lando's explanation.
"okay, okay– i got it!" you wave them off, confidence written all over your face.
lando let out a snort, "i'm glad you're so confident."
"well..." you shrug, trailing off, clearly feeling a little smug, "i do watch you race basically every weekend. i think i can do it."
"of course," he mutters, rolling his eyes, but a clear smile on his face.
there's a pause before you're glancing between them, something suddenly sparking your curiosity, "sooooo... what do i get if i win?"
max blinks, "win?"
"yeah," you say like it's obvious, "what's my prize for beating lando?"
max turns to look at lando and then the camera with a clear look at this girl look, eyes rolling before saying, "she hasn't even gone yet and she's already asking for a prize."
lando moves behind you, arms sliding around your waist without hesitation, "what do you want as your prize?" he murmurs, chin brushing your shoulder as he leans down.
you let out a thoughtful hum, leaning back into him, "good question... what do i want..." a beat passes before your face lights up, "oh! i know!"
max perks up, "well?"
you grin, glancing at the camera, "can't say it on camera. not family-friendly."
lando's smirk deepens instantly, knowing exactly what you're implying.
max, also, picks up what you're saying as he lets out a groan, "i hate both of you."
[ lando's lap time ]
lando goes first. when the camera cuts, he's already in the kart, helmet on, completely in his element. you and max stand at the side, you holding the green flag, eyes locked on him with an excited grin.
"good luck!" you call. he gives you a thumbs up. you wave the flag–
and he's gone.
you watch him disappear down the track, immediately shaking your head. "wow... that really is the slowest kart in the world."
"yeah, starting you off easy so you can build up speed," max sighs.
"i am speed," you say with an evil grin.
max rolls his eyes so hard it's almost impressive they didn't get stuck. he starts explaining what lando's doing – braking points, racing lines, cornering – but your focus is... elsewhere.

your eyes follow lando around every turn. the way he moves to the way he handles the kart with ease. the camera catches your lovestruck gaze as you completely block max out.
"...and that's why he takes that line–" max stops mid-sentence, looking at you. "look at her. she's not even listening to me."
"i am!" you insist weakly, not looking away. "i'm just... focusing on my boyfriend more." you let out a dreamy sigh, "doesn't he look hot while driving?"
max immediately looks away, "i am NOT answering that."
after his three laps, lando comes to a stop at the finish line. max shows the camera his time. 1 minute and 5 seconds.
you nod, impressed, "pretty fast."
lando laughs as he pulls his helmet off, the camera catching the way you very obviously watch him do it – eyes lingering just a second too long.
"think you can beat it," max smirks, arms crossed.
"yeah," you say, nodding, "might take me a few tries, but i can do it."
"i believe in you, babe," lando says easily.
[ attempt 1 : slowest kart in the world ]
"now, y/n will have three laps to try and beat lando's time," max explains to the camera, "if she doesn't then we'll bump her to the next kart."
you look at max as you fix your racing suit, "is the next kart supposed to be faster than this first one?"
"yeah, because it's not as heavy and bulky as this one," lando explains, gesturing to the kart that was in front of you.
"i seeeee~" you say nodding.
you then slip on your helmet – lando's helmet – adjusting it slightly before his hands gently take over. fixing the strap, making sure it's secure. your hands naturally settle on his waist, absentmindedly playing with the fabric of his race suit.
"good?" he asks softly, "too tight?"
"no, it's good."
"remember the corners," he adds, "don't go too fast." he helps you step into the kart, steadying you so you don't trip.
max watches from the sidelines, "they can really make anyone feel single."
"don't be jealous!" you shoot back laughing.
"whatever. are you ready?" you give a thumbs up as the engine starts.
lando waves the flag–
and you're off.
"wow– this thing is fucking slow!" you shout immediately, your comment coming in through both max and lando's headsets that they put on in order to communicate with you. they both burst out laughing at your complaint. "how did lando make it look so fast?"
but despite the complaining, you're good. "whooooooooooo this is so cool!" you take the corners with ease, the camera watching you do it as if you've done it all your life.
"wow," max says, clearly impressed, "she's actually really good."
"she is, but that kart is still slow," lando says.
your times improve with each lap. 1:50 -> 1:38 -> 1:23. by the end, you pull in, clearly having had the time of your life.
"how did i do?"
"one minute and twenty-three seconds," max says, showing you the timer.
you shoulders drop slightly at the time, hoping just maybe you could have beat lando's time with this first kart. lando steps up beside you, hands rubbing your shoulders gently.
"you were doing so well, baby. you'll get it."
you glance over to him, smirking, "glad you're okay with the fact that i'm gonna beat you."
[ attempt 2 : wow, i'm in mario kart guys! ]
"now, this kart is a little more faster than the last one–
"thank god, i felt like i was driving a tractor with that first one," you say interuppting lando.
"–which means you'll have to be more careful with your speed and how you control the kart. don't," he says, giving you a pointed look, "let it control you."
"that means no lead foot, speed demon," max adds.
"i am speed," you repeat before climbing in, visor down. lando taps the top of your helmet gently. when you look at him, he gives you a thumbs up. it steadies you.
lando starts the kart, looking at you as you nod. he waves the flag and you hit the gas, tearing down the track much faster this time. completely, launching forward.
"she might do it with this one," max says, watching you fly down the track.
"yeah..." lando agrees, face looking a little nervous at how fast you're going, "she might." but he's clearly tense, watching every move you make.
"this is like fucking mario kart!!" you take a corner clean, sharp, effortless. his lips part slightly, but doesn't say anything. he doesn't need to. cause its written all over his face.
that's my girl.
"I! AM! SPEEEEEEEEEED!!"
max is laughing, "careful on the corners!" he tells you, but you don't respond. too busy zooming around the track. like you were a racer in your past life.
"whoooooooooooooo! let's fucking goooooo!!"
your times climb fast. clearly better in this second kart than the first one.
1:15. 1:09. then–
with the final lap, you push across the line. lando waving the checkered flag. max looking at the timer with wide eyes, showing it to the camera.

"holy shit– she did it!" max shouts as you manage to stop the kart.
"of course she did," lando says, already grinning as he watches you stand up.
you pull your visor up, "how did i do?!" you begin to jog over to them.
"you beat him! by a second!" max shouts, the camera catching you stopping in your tracks. letting the news settle into your body. and then you're taking off running straight towards lando.
he laughs, watching you – arms already open. you jump into them as he catches you easily. lifting you off the ground as you wrap your arms around his neck.
"look at you!" he says, spinning you once, "you did it!"
"don't doubt a passenger princess," you grin. he laughs as he helps you take your helmet off before you're hugging him again.

"well, there you have it! y/n was able to beat lando!" as he's talking, the camera catches the scene going on behind him.
you and lando standing close. too close. looking into each other's eyes before he's brushing hair out of your face. you grinning up at him as he's leaning down to kiss you. soft and slow like there isn't a camera a few feet away.
max turns around to catch the two of you kissing and rolls his eyes as he sees the scene now in front of him.

he glances back again to see the two of you still in your own little world. still kissing.
