“Okay, that sounds good! It just so happens I have time for lunch right now, too. You’re always so busy,” Olivia said with a chuckle. “But I guess I am too.”
She sat in his office, looking at the clue board, her feet swinging back and forth a bit. “Basil,” she started almost hesitantly. “Do you ever think that… that maybe my father’s not in the country anymore? Or… or that he’s not even still, um, you know...” She almost can’t bring herself to finish the thought. Because it was one thing to think in your own head, but it was another to say it out loud. Like if she said it out loud it would become real.

“oh, sorry,” Olivia said quickly as she looked up just before crashing into the woman. She’d seen her before. At the bar, right? Probably that. But she wasn’t sure if she remembered her. “I know this is random but I love your outfit.”

“Yes in those specific circumstances that you don’t fit. Most people don’t fit it, really was a dumb comment to make. I’ve got to work on my filter,” Basil said shaking his head. He could tell by her body language that she was nervous around him. “It’s okay, Olivia. I’m not gonna yell at you or ruin your night. Just came to get a drink and then I’ll be leaving. You can have your night out with your college friends or whatever you’re doing. I won’t bother you like that time with the redhead.” He promised her. He didn’t like breaking his word so if he told her that he had to keep control of any jealousy that might come up and that was best anyways. She could talk to whoever she wanted to, he had no say in that. He wasn’t her father or boyfriend and even if he was either of those he should trust her enough to choose who she wanted to talk to. “That’s good. Have you ever had a hard class?” he asked. “No, no it’s fine. There’s really no need for me to stay. I don’t want to ruin a perfectly good evening. I should get home to Toby and the cats in case Dawson isn’t there, I have to make sure they’re all fine.” He didn’t really need to get home that badly, the pets would be fine on their own for a while but he didn’t trust himself around Olivia anymore. “Oh nothing that interesting I just thought I found someone connected with Ratigan although the last two times I thought that it was a bust. Don’t get your hopes up too much yet, I’m still far from breaking the case. Might need someone else to take charge of it and I just help her.”
“No, you’re alright,” Olivia waved it off. She looked up at him, blinking. He was trying to be nice, and she appreciated that. “You aren’t bothering me. I’m... not really doing anything. Not really here with anyone,” she admitted. A small laugh left her. “I’ve had challenging classes before. Suppose that’s not quite the same. And you don’t have to feel like... If you have to leave you can, but if you don’t want to it’s okay. I’ve missed talking to you.” She almost dropped her glass when he mentioned the case. Her heart beat a little faster. “Oh? That’s... I won’t, but... that’s good. That’s progress.” Her brow furrowed as she looked at him. “What do you mean someone else to take charge? Like in charge of the case? Or in charge of... what? Are you... are you thinking of dropping the case?”

To say that Talulah was curious as to why the Flaversham girl was drinking alone would be an understatement. She was very curious to know why she was sitting there, looking so out of place, so alone, and so eager to try something new; at least Talulah thought she looked like she was trying something new. She had to know more, so she took the leap and sat next to the younger girl, a small smile on her lips. Oh to be so young and so naive. Talulah missed that. “It’s incredibly boring, darling. But I do wonder….why is a cute thing like you drinking alone? I’m sure anyone would love to join you if you asked.”
Olivia felt like she’d sat next to her to make her feel like she was trying too hard. Probably not. “I’m, well... I’ve been told I don’t take risks all that often, so I’m trying to, um, not be alone. I don’t know many people that I’d ask to join me drinking so I’m... trying to meet more?” part of her wanted to sink into herself as she admitted what she was doing out loud to this woman who probably knew a lot better how to work a bar than she did. “I’m trying to broaden my horizons, or, um, get new experiences or something.”

When Basil saw Olivia at the bar he felt compelled to leave. The last time they were at a bar together had been the start of the whole mess. It was better if he left her alone, if he kept their relationship strictly professional. That would be the best thing for both of them and the case. He missed her though and desperately wanted to talk to her. He really wanted to go over there and talk to her but he doubted he was the kind of company she wanted. Maybe he could just go by, check in say hi and leave. Let her have a fun evening out with people her own age but maybe give her an update on work stuff since he had seen her. Yeah he’d do something like that: a quick little hello, update her on work, and leave, that would be the professional thing to do not hide from her and slink out of the bar. He walked over to where she was seated and seeing the empty seat sat down next to her. He’d order a drink, talk to her briefly, and leave. If he kept repeating that then he wouldn’t verge from his to do list and make a mess of this. “It can be if you’re a very social person. If you find socializing draining and are more comfortable by yourself than no I wouldn’t say it’s boring,” he answered her shaking his head. “Hello, Miss Flaversham. Long time, no see. I hope the new year is treating you well. I’m just getting a drink and leaving. I have to go back to working on your case, I think I have a new lead.”
She felt a blush spread all the way to her shoulders when she heard Basil’s voice. Her hands immediately dropped from the bar and into her lap. “I... suppose in those circumstances, you have a point,” she swallowed quickly. She felt like she’d been caught cheating on a test or something. “Hello,” she replied. Olivia nodded along. “Yeah, the new year has been fine. My classes started back up and they aren’t too hard, so that’s good.” He mentioned a lead on her case, though and that had her attention. “You don’t have to rush out like that,” she said, maybe too quickly. “What’s the lead? If you feel like you can talk about that here?”

Oliver had agreed to go out, and…well, when didn’t he regret going places a little? One minute, he’d had a friend to talk to and now? Tito had run off. Oliver wasn’t upset or anything, he knew how he was and definitely knew how Tito was, but that didn’t mean Oliver did any better in a crowd by himself. Only really able to think of one thing to do, Oliver went to the bar, awkwardly taking the one open seat and immediately surprised that someone spoke to him. “Uh. I don’t know if I’d say boring. Not fun, though.”
He looked nice. Almost like he was more awkward than she was. No, she wasn’t awkward right now, she had to remind herself. She was just having fun and not worrying about anything. “Well, I’d hate for you to not have fun,” Olivia said, smiling a bit. “Hopefully I can help keep you entertained, at least for a bit. I’m Olivia. Did you come here alone, or am I taking up someone else’s time?”

Marie wanted to go all out for her 21st birthday. She wanted to dress to the ten’s because she was no nine, she wanted to start drinking early with a glass of wine with her breakfast, and she wanted to go out and get drinks with some of her favorite people. She had picked a cute little dive bar that none of her friends worked at and the moment they got there she was ordering shots for everyone. She was drunk as hell, but she was happy, going over to each of her friends to make sure she got some quality time with them. “I’m so happy you’re here, I really like, love you? I do. Wow. Thanks for being amazing.”
Olivia was more than happy to go to Marie’s birthday party. So far it had been fun. She was enjoying talking to people and occasionally having a few sips of wine whenever she felt confident enough to sneak it. She smiled brightly as Marie made her way over to her. “I love you too,” she said with a bit of a laugh. “Happy birthday! You really went all out.” Olivia almost awkwardly handed her the gift she’d gotten her. “This is for you, and I know it’s kind of cheesy, but I’ll also be paying to fill it with whatever you want. Or, well, symbolically fill it. It’s... I’ll buy you drinks tonight is what I’m trying to say.”

Romeo had never been to a bar before. He was underage and had never had the desire to sneak into one. He was a college student though and wanted to live up to the potential of most guys his age. So, he decided he’d sneak into a bar. When he got there he spotted a familiar face. He walked over to Olivia and sat beside her. “I wouldn’t really know. I haven’t done it before.” He smiled at her. “Hello by the way.”
As soon as she realized it was Romeo, this felt so much harder. She couldn’t pretend to be someone else and that she wasn’t as awkward with someone she knew. “Hello,” Olivia returned with a smile. She just needed to keep being normal. This wouldn’t backfire in any way. “Well, it’s not nearly as fun as drinking with others, I can tell you that much. And it seems I’ve found myself some pretty good company.”
Every part of this felt wrong. She didn’t even really know why she was doing it. Maybe she was taking people’s --mostly Felicia’s-- advice and just having some fun for once? Was this fun for her? She’d find out soon enough. She let out a bit of a sigh, then flicked some hair over her shoulder. She sat almost posed at the bar, sitting forward with her back arched just a bit, leaning her elbow on the counter, her head so delicately placed on top of her hand. Olivia almost felt ridiculous. But she was trying to stay away from all of her thoughts that gave her pause or hesitation. She had a drink in front of her that she would occasionally stir or take a sip from. Then, she waited for someone to take the seat next to her. “It’s so boring drinking alone, don’t you think?”

Catching the eyes of Olivia was probably the highlight of her day so far. At least it wasn’t someone that was going to toss too much judgement in her actions. Grabbing her journal she took the hand and brought herself to her feet. “Woo.. Oh wait.. I stood up to fast.” She laughed nervously before looking down at the journal. “It’s perfect… a little fold in the corner just adds some character.”
Olivia laughed a bit, keeping her friend steady as she regained herself. “I do that all the time,” she said. Olivia nodded a bit. “That’s good. So, how are you today? Have you written anything exciting lately? Not that you have to share if you aren’t ready to, I just always love seeing your work,” she smiled. Lyria was such a good friend, and honestly, she just felt better whenever she was around her.

It was rather lovely, I mean if they’re good in bed and they treat me?” Felicia just sighed and shoved her wrist out. “Look at that shine, sweetie.” The more she talked, Felicia leaned back with a hand on her chest. “I am so fucking proud of you! That is queen, power moves right there. Like I’ve been saying, it’s far too much of a territorial thing with him, Mouse. I mean not that I really give too much of a shit what you do, but this is what I wanted you to do.” Rolling her eyes she looked around. “Stop saying gross. I”m sure you dream of my confidence and what you could do with it. Throw back a few more shots and you won’t have an issue with flirting. Besides I’m your wing woman, you’ll be fine. Or we can just go to a sex shop and get you some things. You’re so tense, and you don’t need a damn soul to make yourself … unwind a little more.”
Olivia just nodded. She didn’t have much to say on that topic. “That is a nice bracelet,” she finally settled on saying. Olivia felt her face flush a bit as Felicia practically almost complimented her. “Well, thanks, I guess. I just, I know I’ve said this already, but I’m kind of just upset all of it messed with our friendship. Because that’s what was really important, I guess.” Olivia rolled her eyes right back at Felicia. “Well, if I had your confidence I wouldn’t be in any of these situations. I would be able to go around this bar and flirt with anyone here. But I don’t have your confidence. And I don’t know if I could handle that much alcohol...” Olivia said softly, finishing her drink. “But I guess I could try.” She looked over to her. “I, um... I don’t know... I’ve, um... we don’t have to do that.” She said, looking down into her empty glass. “I know I’m tense, I’ve got a lot going on, and I’m just... new to all of this sort of stuff.”

“I mean… I still gave a few pecks. And I did have a new sparkly bracelet wrapped up in a pretty boy a few days later. So… who did it really work for.” Fluffing up her hair she grinned to herself. It was all worth it when people would sit and stare at the jewels she would wear sometimes. Raising a brow towards her she shut up and listened. “What do you mean things feel different? Like he’s telling you he doesn’t want anything without saying it?” She asked frowning. “He acts like you father just to cut you off the string he held you on - honey you’re way too much of a mouse for a piece of moldy , old cheese like that.” She scuffed. “We don’t want things to be dry, life is better when you’re wetter. So look around, see anything you want to get on a slip n’ slide level with?”
Olivia scrunched up her face a bit. “Lovely,” she said softly into the rim of her glass. Olivia shrugged. “Like... I don’t know. He kept getting weird like he didn’t want a relationship or anything but kept getting jealous when I was with other people. And I don’t know, I feel like the uncertainty was too much, so I told him I didn’t want a ‘maybe’ anymore because it was messing with our friendship and the work I need him to do and...” she sighed. “It just got more complicated than I was ready for. I just didn’t want us to stop being friends.” She couldn’t help but grin at Felicia, even though she wasn’t a fan of her nickname for her. It fades a bit at her phrasing of the next part, though. “I... gross,” she mumbled, “I don’t know.” She scanned the bar. Really, she didn’t see anyone. “Maybe... I don’t know. Even if I did, I’m terrible at flirting.”

Pushing a few hairs from her face Lyria looked around the coffee shops grounds like hawk for it’s next prey. “Oh come on..” She said softly to herself. Moving down to all fours she caught glimpse of the beloved lyric journal she had. “Bingo!” She said to herself as she weaved and crawled her way to it. Just to have a foot land right in the middle of it. Looking up she groaned, tapping the others leg. “Excuse me.. hi.. um.. I kinda need this , please.”
Olivia looked down, surprised to feel someone tapping on her leg. “Oh, sorry, Ly,” she said upon seeing her friend. She quickly lifted her foot. She reached down and offered her a hand to help her up. “Is it okay? I mean, I know it’s a book, but it’s not too dirty, right? And none of the pages got folded?”
