summary: Bruce knew that Damian's eagerness to help animals in need might bite him in the ass at some point. He just wasn't expecting his son to bring home an actual werewolf, thinking it was a stray dog. Any rational parent would make their child put said werewolf back where they found it. But how can he do that when the new 'pet' looks at him with such sad eyes? Another one won't hurt.
tags: all the werewolf facts had been pulled out of my ass (I don't remember where I know them from); Bruce needs to learn how to say 'no' to his children; Damian cares about animals a 'normal amount'; mentions of animal abuse; in Damian's defence it was dark when he first met reader; starvation; homelessness; violence; death mentioned.. probably; reader had a shitty family and the tags will change after that will be explained, reader eats raw meat

You thought nobody would notice anything suspicious in your behaviour. After all, you made sure not to run off deeper into the manor's grounds each day at the same time. Sometimes you would disappear right after breakfast, other times you waited right before the family left for patrols. You thought nobody would notice. You knew that they wouldn't be able to see you transform. You only switched forms when hidden behind the Batcowโs barn.
You didn't do much in your human form. You couldn't really borrow a book with Damian always in the house. So instead, you would just sit around, picking at the grass or turn your face towards the sun and let your skin soak up its rays.
It never crossed your mind that Damian could start keeping a close eye on you after seeing you run off in the same direction more than once.
What you expected even less, was for Damian to follow you after he let you out at night. After all, he didn't do that the last few times he did.
You didn't look around before shifting back to your human form. You let your guard down some time ago, as nobody in the family did anything to make them be considered a threat.
Both you and Damian froze when you turned around, startled by the stick crunching under Damian's shoe. The two of you stare at each other for a moment, eyes widened in shock. For a moment, neither of you dared to move, waiting for the other to react first.
Damian ended up shifting his weight forward slightly, almost enough for it to go unnoticed if it weren't for your eyes watching him so carefully. Thinking he would lounge forward at you, you ended up turning around and bolting in the opposite direction. You didn't know what exactly Damian was about to do, but you couldn't risk fighting with him. You saw what he was capable of the few times he brought you down to the cave to watch him train. You weren't ready to risk him attacking you, having a sword in his hand or not.
You ended up thrown face-first into the dirt with Damian on top of you. You tried breaking free from his grip, but to no avail.
"What are you? Why are you here?" Damian asked, leaning in to grip the back of your neck and force your head up and closer to him.
"I'm a werewolf," you choke out, Damian releasing his hold when the words left your mouth. "You know, part human, part not."
"And what are you doing here, huh?" Damian challenged, making sure to keep you on the ground when you attempted to move again.
"You found me in the alley and brought me here, remember?" You reminded him.
"Are you living there?" Damian asked, taken aback. The grip he had on you faltered enough for you to be able to rip out of his grip fully.
You nodded, massaging your legs where Damian was holding you down. Damian didn't respond, forcing him to look up. You tried to figure out what he was thinking, but his face showed no signs of emotion.
"I know it's weird, and I'm really sorry for using your kindness," you apologised, looking away in shame. "I can leave, even right now, justโ"
"No," Damian stopped you.
"What?" You asked, preparing to shift back in case you were forced to run.
"You're not leaving," he declared, grabbing you by the arm when he noticed the change in your posture. "I promised to give you somewhere safe to stay. You did what you had to so you could survive, and I respect that. I will keep your secret safe as well, but I do have questions."
You ended up explaining why you risked transforming with him forced to stay in the manor. You told him about the warnings you received from the elders in your family and shared your worry of turning into a beast yourself and hurting him and his family. When Damian asked where your family was, you shut the subject down after telling him that they no longer want you with them.
"And for this full moon?" Damian asked, the two of you now sitting with you back against the barn.
"Getting away from the manor would be the safest," you admit, picking at the grass in front of you. "I could risk running on the manor grounds, but I'm worried about bumping into one of you and hurting someone when I'm not fully in charge."
"We can do that," Damian vowed. "I'll find a way to get you away for the night and for you to come back safely."
That night changed the way you stayed in the manor. With you and Damian sharing your secret, more ways for you to spend your time had appeared. Not only that, but you also no longer had to sneak out as much in order to reconnect with your human form as Damian encouraged you to hang out on two legs in his room.
Usually when in your human form, Damian would let you read books and even bring you new ones from the library while he did his own things. Sometimes, he would ask questions regarding your ability, wanting to know how the shifting of forms happen or the effects the moon has on you. But since the day he found out about your ability, he has not asked more questions regarding your family. He even asked about your real name and promised to make sure the rest of the family would use it instead of the one he chose before. When you expressed worry about his siblings and father questioning the sudden change of name, Damian had assured you that none of them dare to do so.
"(Name), I have come up with the plan for the full moon," Damian announced. Walking into his room, you raised his head from Titus' neck to look at his discretion. You shifted into a human when you realised he was waiting for you to do so before he would start explaining. "Hours before nightfall, someone will let you out. There is a back gate that I will make sure is open, you will run off through there. Then I'll start asking about your whereabouts and make sure they will believe you had run off. During the night, you do whatever you want. Once you regain control, you will come up to the front gate, pawing at it. You can try triggering the intercom."
"What ifโ"
"I'll make sure Alfred will let you in. Drake joked about myโฆ attachment to you, so I'll use it to our advantage," Damian reassured you.
On the day of the full moon, you were both nervous and excited. You couldn't wait to let loose in your wolf form, howl at the moon and maybe, if you're lucky, chase something. The possibility of being able to run around freely without risking hurting someone from Damian's family, didn't mean you weren't worried about leaving the manor's grounds. Damian promised that he or Alfred would let you back in without any problems, but the worry still ate away at you. What if Bruce or another adult takes it as you wish to return to the wild? You loved living at the Wayne, Damian being your first friend you made after leaving your family. And the pets you received from all of them were tucked in your love-deprived heart just right. You didn't know if you would be able to survive away from any of them.
All your worries melted away when you run through the back gate an hour before the moon's influence makes your wolf take over. It was your first full moon in a long time when you transformed with your stomach full. You can't recall the last time it happened.
As the moon disappeared beyond the horizon, you had returned back to your senses as you transformed back to your human form. You quickly looked over your body, trying to piece together what you did. Then the moon dominated the sky. You leet out a sigh of relief when you noticed that there was no blood on you. Judging by the dried out mud, you guessed you most likely played around in some puddles. You hoped Alfred won't be mad about you dragging mud across the manor.
Coming down from the high of the full moon, you sat on the patch of grass you woke up on, waiting before shifting back into a wolf. You went over what Damian asked you to do one more time, before getting off the glass on your four paws.
Just like Damian had asked you, you run up to the front gate of the manor, pawing at the metal at first. You waited for a moment, watching for any movement from the house. When nothing happened, you moved towards the panel with buttons and pawed at it until you heard any noise coming from it.
You heard Alfred calling you by the dog name Damian had given you, followed by a deep sigh. You almost thought the butler would ignore you, when the front gate began to open. You didn't wait for it to open fully and snuck inside when the open space was just enough for you to pass.
"Welcome back, (dog name)" Alfred welcomed you, opening the front door. "I see that you had quite the adventure," he shook his head, attempting to brush his fingers through the mud on your back.
You walked up to Damian to greet him, and while disgusted with the state of your fur, he still gave you a few pets.
"Would you look at that, (dog name) had returned" Tim commented, extending his hand to offer more pets. "See? Told you that you spoilt the wolf too much for him to leave."
"I knew he would be back," Damian scoffed, crossing his arms. "And it's not (dog name). It's (name) now."
"You changed his name?" Cass questioned, her eyes watching both you and Damian closely.
"Yes. This one suits him much better," Damian explained, calling you over to him.
Walking out of the room, you don't notice the way Cass squinted her eyes as she watched the two of you.

Unaware of the new attention you have gained, you allow your life to return to a sense of normalcy. You move between classes with a few of your friends, believing that Cass and her siblings had lost interest in you.
You stopped sneaking out as much and if your father had noticed anything, you had yet to hear him bother you about it.
You threw yourself into schoolwork, allowing Cassandra Cain to be pushed out of your mind completely. Even your friend, though still not seeing anything bad about you coming out to her, stopped mentioning Cass.
And maybe there was a part of you that felt bad about getting into contact with Cass. You tried telling yourself that it was because she didn't have that many friends to begin with and that was the reason you spent some of your nights wide awake filled with regret about how you ended your friendship.
You knew you underestimated the Wayne Kids when Stephanie and Tim approached you one afternoon. The classes ended awhile ago, but feeling bad about your friend being forced to wait for their club all alone, you decided to keep them company.
Walking out of school, you took a quick stop by your locker after you realized that you had forgotten to grab some of your notes. You didn't realize that both of them approached you until you turned around ready to leave. You tried pushing your way through, but with the way both of them were standing, you would have to push them too. Something you wanted to avoid, considering their family.
"Listen, we just want to make sure you're fine," Tim insisted, making sure you'd have no way of escaping.
"Why do you care?" You questioned, letting your back hit the lockers.
"Because you're Cass' friend," Tim explained, pretending not to notice the way your jaw clenched at the mention of their sister.
"Yeah, and a friend of Cass is a friend of ours," Stephanie nodded, and you couldn't stop yourself from rolling your eyes.
"Does it work the other way around too?" You scoffed, finally seeing an opening for you to escape. "Because I do remember telling off your friends when they were bothering her, Stephanie."
Neither of them stopped you from leaving after that. Instead, they shared a worried look between themselves.
If you caught catch the interest of any other, maybe Steps and Tim would take a hint and leave you alone. Maybe they would try to convince said sibling to leave you alone as well. But it wasn't just any sibling, Cass was the one that wanted to be in your space. Nobody in the family saw her acting the way she was with you, and while the older brother felt a little jealous of Cass' love towards you, they would go to great lengths to make her happy.
Tim and Stephanie recapped their interaction with you after school during dinner. It was one of those rare ones where everyone was present. They expressed their worry over the way you acted with them, including the small changes in your posture after Tim mentioned Cassandra.
After hearing her sibling's worries over her well-being, Cass wanted to go out without finishing her dinner to make sure she was alright. Before she could leave the table, Bruce managed to stop her by putting an arm on her shoulder. He suggested Cass to give you some space for now and try to have lunch with you tomorrow.
"He will be home with you soon," Bruce promised, when Cass picked up her fork again.
The next day you were running late for lunch. Your teacher had a question regarding your assignment that he insisted on talking over right after class. Luckily, you managed to warn your friends about running late, with them promising to save you a spot at the table.
You froze when you saw Cassandra and her two siblings sitting at the table with your friend. You debated if you wanted to join the four of them or not, but decided that you didn't want your friend to be left alone with them.
Your friend was the first one to notice you and, with the look they sent you, you knew that you had no say in Wayne's joining you.
Sitting down at the table, you pretend that you don't find their presence weird. You shared a few glances with your friend, promising each other to talk about Wayne's joining you for lunch after you return from school.
You and your friend were halfway through talking over the situation during lunch. Both of you trying to understand what exactly had pushed the three of them to join both of you for the meal after staying away for so long. You laughed at a comment your friend made, when your father's furious voice rang through the house.
You quickly said goodbye to your friend and ran towards where your father was, not wanting to make him madder by keeping him waiting.
"What the fuck is this?!" your father spat, throwing photographs at you. "You had one job, (name), just one! I told you 'drop that damn gay act'! I sent you to that damn camp to set you straight. You want to tell me it was all a waste of money?!"
"Dad, Iโ"
"I don't want to hear it," your father ordered. "You have thirty minutes to get the fuck out of my house. Pack your shit and get out, you fucking brat!"
Their plan was simple. Tim watched your conversation with your father through the window, holding a camera so those in the cave could see as well. Once it was clear your father threw you out, Cassandra and Bruce were supposed to go to the location you would be heading towards you, trying to make it look like they bumped into you. None of them considered that your first thought after getting back to your room would be to call your friend and for them to offer you to stay the night.
Despite Cass still wanting to go with the plan they had, Bruce ended up forcing her to stay in the manor. He explained that you were likelier to decline them if they attempt it after your friend invited you to stay with them. Instead, Bruce instructed her and Tim to approach him and your friend during lunch and find out what had happened then.
"I'm sorry for not letting you crash another night," your friend was apologizing when Tim and Cass approached the lunch table.
"It's fine, really. I know your parents don't have the space," you reassured them, wrapping your arm around their shoulder and giving them a squeeze. "I'm just happy that they let me spend the night. I'll figure something out for tonight, don't worry."
"What happened? Why did you sleep in theirs?" Tim asked, both him and Cass setting their trays onto the table.
"Because his father is a homophobic piece ofโ"
"He threw me out," you explain, stopping your friend from finishing their sentence.
Cass suggested that you stay with them at the manor, with Tim promising that nobody would mind. You declined then as you felt like you would be too greedy with Cass' family kindness.
Cass looked like she wanted to try and talk her into agreeing, but after Tim sent her a look, she stopped herself. You didn't pay too much attention to their interaction.
Walking out of school you wonder if maybe you should've as Cassandra grabs you by the sleeve of your shirt and starts dragging you along. You try to get her to stop or at least explain where she's taking you.
You didn't get to do any of those things. You only found out where she was dragging you when Cass had let go of you, and you were face to face with Bruce Wayne. He, just like his kids, offered you to stay in the manor for the time being given your situation.
"Cass speaks so highly of you, I just won't be able to forgive myself if I didn't at least try to help," Bruce explained.
You ended up agreeing to go with them. Just for the weekend for now, but it was enough for Cass. She knew she could convince you to stay with her and be her big brother officially during those few days.
The first time you walked into the room Alfred had prepared for you, you found the space weird. It was nothing like a guestroom should be. Not only because of where it was situated, right next to the room that belonged to Cass, but also because of how well furbished it was.
You ended up brushing it off for the time being, even if some of the titles on the shelf matched the ones you had in your room at your father's house.
It was Saturday in the evening when you were able to spend the tiniest bit of time by yourself. Cass was called into the kitchen for something you didn't bother to catch, you were just happy to be able to think without her staring right into your soul.
You ended up going through the bookcase in your temporary room, trying to see if any of the titles would pick your interest. That when you spot one of your favorite books sitting on one of the shelves. It was rather worn out, which you didn't find alarming. You had a copy at your father's house that looked similar.
When you opened the title page, you realized that the book didn't just have a similar amount of wear to the one you left behind. It was the copy you had, there was no mistake in it. The entire book had your annotations on it along with the few doodles you drew in the margins.
Cass enters your room just as you finish flipping through the book. She tries to speak up, explain herself, but you stop her.
"What the fuck is this, Cassandra?" You questioned, walking right up to her. "How the fuck did my book get here?!"
You stood dumbfounded as Cassandra went on to explain how the book got there and why the room you were staying in was furnished with familiar things. Your fists cleared when she got to the part when Bruce sent the pictures of you with men to your father.
"You are a fucking psycho" you spat, pushing past her.
You ran down the stairs with nothing but the phone in your pockets. Cassandra was following close behind you, trying to get you to stop and forgive her.
She catches you by the front door, begging you not to leave her.
"I'd rather starve to death than be anywhere near you, Cassandra." You snapped, walking through the manor's front door without another word.
Cass was ready to follow you out, when Alfred put his hand on her shoulder to stop her.
"Don't worry, miss. I'm sure he just needs some time to cool off and will be back in no time," the butler reassured her.
"And if he won't, I'll drag him back for you," Jason promised.

part one | part two
You sit outside on one of the many tables right outside the cafeteria, your untouched lunch tray in front of you. You promised to wait with eating until your friend catches up to you, them being held up by a teacher after class.
You take your time looking around the area, watching people sitting at the tables surrounded by their friends. That's when you spot her. Cassandra Cain, adoptive daughter of Bruce Wayne. Usually she was accompanied by Stephanie and Tim, but they were nowhere to be found today. You watched her eating her lunch in silence, her eyes fixated on her food. She doesn't look up, not even when three idiots stand tall on the other side of the table. She didn't flinch when one of them said something, making his companions burst out laughing. You've heard about them before. Rumours spread around Gotham Academy like wildfire, especially the ones about any Wayne child.
You heard many things about Cassandra. Many bad things. A lot of people, just like those boys at her table now, would point out her quietness, most of the time referring to her as 'freak'. Usually you don't have to do more than scoff at their remarks, as a different Wayne child would go off on the person. This time was one of the very few times that Cassandra was left alone, and you're not about to let the bullies have a field day.
You pick up your tray without giving it a second thought. You don't care that you have never spoken to her; you will not just sit there and let some random arsehole make fun of her for something she might be struggling with.
"Oi, piss off, will you! I'm trying to sit down and eat." You push through the group of boys, setting your tray across from Cassandra. "What, you guys are just going to stand here and watch us eat? That's real creepy, Hearst." You turned around to glance at the one who made the joke before returning back to your tray with a sigh.
Hearst scoffed, urging his 'friends' to leave you two alone, not without calling you both freaks in the process.
Only with the boys gone, you look up at Cassandra, only to realise she's staring right at you.
"Sorry, I just hate guys like him. I had to step in." You watched Cassandra nod. "My friend is running a bit late, but you don't mind if we join you, right?" Cassandra shook her head; you smiled. "That's great. I'm (name), by the way, and you're Cassandra, right?" She nodded again.
Cassandra didn't speak for the entire lunch. Not when your friend came rushing in. Not when they joked about buying you a mask so you can finally 'acknowledge your calling'. She just sits there, slowly eating pieces of her food, her eyes moving between you and your friend and nodding along as you two joke around.
"Hey, before we go. If you need some company during lunch, feel free to join us" You said, standing up with your empty lunch tray.
"Yeah! It was cool to have you around" your friend assured her, placing their tray on top of yours.
After that lunch you started noticing Cassandra a lot. Sometimes you saw her out of the corner of your eye, standing on the opposite side of the hallway. Other times you saw her during lunch, as on the table or two over with Stephanie and Tim.
You smiled whenever you met her eyes, waving. You didn't want her to think your kindness was a one-time thing. And so you acknowledged her whenever she was near.
A month passed by, and you and Cass barely interacted with one another. You two didn't make much progress other than her beginning to return the small waves every once in a while.
You sat alone in the cafeteria, the cold weather forcing your friend to stay home with a fever and a cough so bad that each of their breaths sounded like their last one.
"Hey, you're (name), right? Cass mentioned that you and your friend kept her company during lunch." You looked up to see Cass and Stephanie, whose voice you just heard. "Can we sit here? As long as your friend won't mindโฆ"
"Go for it; I could use some company anyway. My friend's sick." You gestured towards the table, smiling at Cass once you noticed her watching you.
You didn't know it yet, but that shared meal was to become one of many. Sometimes it would be with Stephanie and Tim; other times only Cass would join you at lunch.
You didn't mind; Cassandra was great company, even with the lack of words coming out of her mouth. You knew that even if she didn't always respond, she was holding onto every word that left your mouth.
You thought that your friendship with Cass would remain in school, assuming her life as an adoptive daughter of Bruce Wayne came with many responsibilities. Most of which didn't give enough free time to hang out with people she met in school.
Cassandra seemed to have a different idea on how your friendship was. In her eyes, you weren't friends, no. You protected her. Looked out for her the same way a big brother would. Even if she wasn't the most experienced in family matters, this time she was certain she got it right.
You were her big brother, and because of that, she decided to extend your relationship outside the school grounds.
She noticed the way your body tensed up every day as the school days came to an end. She knew the worst was Fridays. You didn't want to spend so much time at home. Cass didn't check why, waiting for her big brother to open up on his own.
Cass decided that the first step will be to invite you out on a weekend. Nothing too intense; she didn't want to scare you off.
So when the Friday rolled around, she was ready. Cass researched activities she could do with you outside of school, running them through Stephanie and Barbara just in case.
She chose a cafe. One that's less crowded. One where both of you could talk without having to worry about anyone bothering you two.
Cass didn't eat lunch with you that day; you didn't even see her in the cafeteria. She approached you between classes, just as you were putting some books into your locker.
"Oh, hi Cass," you greeted her, closing your locker. "Didn't see you in the cafeteria today; are you alright?"
"Yes, hi. Are you free this Saturday?" Cass asked, the words coming out too quickly for her liking. Much faster than when she practised in the mirror.
You agreed. Cassandra never gave you a reason not to. She seemed nice, and any reason to be out of the house on a weekend is a good reason.
The first few minutes are a bit awkward. Being with Cass in a cafe alone was different from sitting across from her in a cafeteria. You stumble with topics to talk about. Finding things to talk about was easier in school, where you could always complain about a class or homework. This was different.
That was also when you realised how little you know about Cass.
You start small, asking for her thoughts on the drinks served in the cafe and her favourite pastries. You gave her a space to talk, not interrupting her even when she stumbled with her words.
You offered to go on a walk after getting bored of the cafe. You didn't want to return back to your father yet, and Cass seemed to not want to part ways yet either.
You find a secluded bench, deep within the park. One under the shade of the old trees, shielding the two of you from the rare sun rays in Gotham.
You and Cass spend the rest of your hangout people-watching, judging people's questionable pet-raising choices.
"I had a lot of fun, Cass," you said as you walked her to where her butler was supposed to pick her up.
"We should do this again," Cass nods, her fingers curled around your sleeve. "As friends"
"Yes, as friends, of course!" You panic, and your hands shoot up trying to explain yourself. "I mean, you're really fun, Cass, but Iโ"
"I don't really swing that way, if you know what I mean." You winked, and Cass nodded again.
You didn't think much about what you said at first. The words don't cross your mind until late into the night. Long after you're out of your clothes, your skin is warm after a shower.
Only then do you realise what you were saying that truly meant. You just came out to Cassandra.ย And yeah, you knew about her brother's, Tim's, bisexual tendencies, and she didn't seem to mind them. But your situation was different. You only ever came out to one person, (friend's name).
You felt like an idiot. What if Cass was just testing you? Trying to see your reaction to the hangout not being a date to see if you're interested?
What if she tells other people? Out to the whole school?
What if your father finds out?
You walk into the school on Monday paranoid. You kept looking around as you walked up to your friend. You tried to see if people were looking at you weird. Like they know.
"What's up with you?" (Friend name) asked, their brow raised as they also looked around. "What is it? Did your past hook-up show up?" You punched their arm.
"I came out to Cassandra," you leaned in and whispered.
"Oh, and now you're overthinking it." Your friend shook their head. "So typical of you. It'll be fine, I promise. She has no problem with Tim. Why would she have one with you?"
"We hang out on Saturday, and she wants to do it again as friends, and what ifโ"
"Yeah, stop right there." (Friend's name) put their hand over your mouth. "Dude, there's no 'what if'; you're fine."
You tried to convince yourself that your friend was right. Cassandra probably has no problem with you being interested in men.
Yet, you still couldn't bring yourself to spend time with her. You didn't know how to look at her. Because of that, you kept finding excuses to not be around her.
Your friend tried to talk you into eating lunch with them and Cass most of the week. They only gave up on Thursday, and you only had to deal with the disappointed look they sent your way.
You successfully went a full week with almost no interaction with any of the Wayne kids. You felt bad about ignoring them, especially Cassandra, now that it looked like she hadn't told anyone about your sexuality. But it's not like you can go back to pretending everything is fine after ignoring all of them for so long.
You were rushing out of school on Friday afternoon when someone grabbed you by the collar and dragged you to one of the less visited corridors.
The person holding your collar releases you from their hold, letting you turn around to see that it was Cassandra.
"Oh Cass! Hi, how are you?" You tried to sound normal, even if your voice cracked.
"Why are you ignoring me?" Cass stepped closer, her hand holding your arm tightly so you can't escape.
"What? Ignoring? "No, I justโ" You couldn't find an excuse for your behaviour.
"You are." She didn't let you finish lying; her eyes locked onto yours.
"Maybe a little," you admit, sighing. "I'm sorry, I was scared after meโฆ coming out to you, and I was worried that it would change things between us."
"I understand." Cass nodded, releasing your arm. "It doesn't change things between us. I still care about you. I thought you didn't want to be friends anymore because you didn't have a good time when we hung out."
"What? No, I had a great time! "I just got scared of being out to another person is all, I promise," you reassure Cass, offering a pat on her shoulder.
You and Cass decided that you're still friends, and you promised to communicate your feelings better next time.
Your friendship changed; now the two of you did things outside the school cafeteria. You would check in on each other through messages.
You two also regularly hang out outside of school hours now. Sometimes it was a planned hangout on a weekend; some days it was two of you sneakingout of your houses to sit on top of a rooftop with a bunch of snacks you bought in a convenience store.
It was when you were trying to leave unnoticed to meet with Cassandra when your father found you putting your shoes on.
"I hope it's a girl you're meeting. It better be," he spoke up, watching you grab a coat. "No son of mine will be gay. Remember that."
You waved him off, ready to leave the house and no longer be in his presence.
Your father's words impacted you more than you thought they would. You knew your father wasn't fond of people attracted to the same gender. But the idea of him thinking Cassandra could be 'you girl' didn't sit right with you. She was more like a sister to you than a potential partner.
Cass noticed something was wrong the moment you got up onto the roof. She didn't want to pressure you to talk about what's bothering you, so she let the silence fill the space between the two of you.
"I think we should put some distance between each other," you spoke up, your eyes looking into the distance. "Stop meeting up like this."
"My father, heโฆ" you kept talking, ignoring how Cassandra's eyes stared right into you. "He knows I'm going out to meet up with someone and has already made a comment about it."
"I'd hate for him to make us something we're not," you whispered the word, your eyes now focused on your hand.
Cass tried to speak up to stop you from leaving. All of her words fell on deaf ears. You leave the roof before she can properly react.
She tried to text you, but all of her messages were left on delivered. Cass decided to wait for the next school day to talk to you, but you never came to school. Not the next day, not the day after.
You didn't show up to school for the rest of the week. Your friend told her you're sick, but they didn't seem too convinced of it.
Cass stopped by your house a few times during patrol, looking into your window to check on you. She sighed, realising that you're fine, just ignoring her. Again.
You came back to school on Monday but made sure to be in places Cassandra couldn't find you or surrounded yourself with people so she couldn't corner you again.
Tim and Stephanie noticed your sudden absence around Cassandra. Neither of them worried about it too much, thinking that the two would talk it out soon enough.
It doesn't take long for the rest of the family to realise something is wrong. Barbara, being the one with the active location of all family members, was the first one to notice that Cass would go off her assigned route to watch over a certain house for a while and then return to patrol the rest of the city.
The rest of the family finds out about Cassandra's unusual behaviour.
Bruce approaches the subject after one of the patrols where she wandered off the route.
"I'm checking on (name)," she confessed, her hands holding her mask tightly. "He doesn't want to be my brother anymore, and I'm trying to understand why."
"Your brother?" Dick asked, pausing while putting on his Nightwing costume.
"Oh yeah, you guys don't know!" Steph chuckled, looking over at Tim. "I can't believe that never came up! There's this dude, (name), and he's been there for Cass when people were bothering her."
"Yeah, it makes sense Cass considers him a brother; he does kinda act like one." Tim nodded, stepping towards the Batcomputer to pull up your information.
"And why doesn't he want to be your brother anymore? What happened?" Bruce asked, his cowl dropped onto a random chair long forgotten.
"His father is homophobic and made comments about how (name) is dating me, and I guess he got worried about it," Cass sighed, her eyes looking down. "He's almost an adult, so he's worried that his father will throw him out if he finds out, and he's not comfortable with his father thinking he's dating a girl."
"Alright, I understand, he's in a really tough spot," Bruce said, putting an arm around Cass, trying to cheer her up. "Why don't you, Tim and Steph, make sure he's safe and fine?"
Cass nodded, promising to try. Stephanie makes a joke about a family intervention, and Tim smacks her shoulder for it.
"You will get your big brother back, Cass. No matter how."
I finished writing the next part of sorcerers and their loses and my laptop's screen went black when I sat down to edit it so depending if I'll manage to fix it myself or not the next part might be late.
Good news is that I should still be able to post other things as I worked on some stuff while on break last week so I won't leave you all dry.

yo i read your sorcerer and their losses fic and ong that fic was PEAK as hell ๐ญ๐ it's the first time in a while since i felt so disappointed when i see there's no next chapter button LMAO and i'm saying this as someone who's picky with jjk fanfics, let alone crossover ones. really love the entire thing and the bond between the mc and his classmates (so excited for the gojo thing to play out), and i find it funny hoe the family feels strange about you when they're literally living in a cursed city โ ๏ธ bruce has dealt through way worse and yet he felt more inclined to let his kid be taken away to japan LIKE MAN !!! YOU BOTH ARE JUST TWO SIDES OF THE SAME COIN ๐คจ then again at least his own child is following his footsteps (international training arc fr) and it's so nice to find male readers, oftentimes it's batsis reader but i'm so starved for male reader content and yours fed me really well !! so excited for how the story will play out in the next parts (and i saw your latest post about finals, i'm nearing mine next week ๐) and i'd ask if i can be added to your taglist but it's full so i'll just wait for a next update ^^ thank you for your fic, it's been a while since i felt invested to read a neglecter reader one haha, but yours was just perfect for me
I'm so so happy to hear that you enjoyed sorcerers and their loses! It honestly means so much to me ๐ญ
I find it so funny how Bruce find reader weird while the two of them are so similar like bro look in the mirror!!!
again, I'm so glad you liked my story and good luck on your exams! I'm sure you'll do great โค๏ธ
with my second week of finals done (there's a holiday tmr and ny uni's closed for Friday) here's a recap of everything that happened:
took 3 exams (one of which was one question per one A4 page๐ญ)
had one oral exam (still recovering from it)
started writing cass x ftm!werewolf!reader
wrote 'wotwm' ch.06 before my oral exam (I was NOT having a good time waiting and I needed something to stop myself from spiralling)
cried twice (but only one of those was related to exams so it's a win)
bought paralives on the day it released (I was waiting for years for this ok leave me alone) and played 8 h 'as a treat' (my first exam was on tuesday, what's the treat for?)
next week I have 3 more exams, one fully online and one more oral ๐
I have so many fun ideas I can't wait to start working on so be ready for cool things coming out after the 14th!

'eyes without a face' & 'suffocation' by @dehydratedoverlord : they might've been gone for two months now, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't read both of those stories!!!
i was looking through your masterlists; and in โthief in the familyโ masterlist, apparently that kurrurreal(??) person deleted their account or deactivated, do you know why? idk i js wanted to see their profile but now. i. yk cant

their analysis on this fic where the light of my days
you can just spell their username without actually tagging them ? we can just type their names in the search bar and their profiles should pop up
I didn ended up just tagging them like normal, in case someone isn't comfortable with that I can remove the tag and either spell out their name like you said or somehting

prelude | masterlist | act one, part two
You learnt quite a few things during your journey to Japan with Yaga.
Yaga was friends with your mother, which was something you learned when he apologised for not attending her funeral. You found out that they became friends after she arrived at Jujutsu High in their second year. Apparently she had to move all the way there, as her former school wasn't sure how to help her master her cursed technique.
"I made sure her body was handled with care after she arrived back," Yaga reassured you.
"What do you mean?" you questioned, looking away from the plane window and towards him.
"After her funeral, her body was transported back to Japan so she could be buried on blessed grounds to avoid... problems." He explained, mixing the coffee the flight attendant had given him.
You found out how she and Bruce met. According to Yaga, she was on a mission in the same city he was visiting. Your mother and another sorcerer were sent to exorcise a curse lurking in the basement of the building the party Bruce was attending was in. After completing the mission, the other sorcerer suggested that the two of them enjoy the party since they're already there. Yaga suggested that you connect the dots by yourself after that.
Your mother found out about the pregnancy a few weeks later. She waited a few more before telling the elders about it. Most of them weren't happy about you, not only because your mother refused to tell them who the father was, but also because that was the first time she mentioned leaving the society. Your mother hid behind the desire to keep you safe, but none of them saw it as that. Then, the Zen'in Clan found out about your mother's pregnancy and offered to keep her and you safe in exchange for your mother's hand in marriage.
"They hoped to combine their Ten Shadows Technique with her own to create strong sorcerers." Yaga shook his head, putting the plastic spoon on a napkin. "Luckily, she was able to convince the elders to let her leave in exchange for enrolling you. The only catch was her being forced to return as a sorcerer after you were born."
"Are they really that bad?" You asked, trying to understand why your mother still chose to leave.
"Your mother was in grade one, on the edge of becoming special-grade sorcerer. If she were to be married into the Zen'in, she would be reduced to a breeding vessel." Yaga sighed, finally looking back at you. "And you would become their bastard child. Even with your energy being this strong, you would be lucky if they would give you any training, let alone education."
You also found out a bit about the students you will be sharing classes with. You expected that there wouldn't be as many of you as there were in any other school you attended, but hearing only three names leaving Yaga's mouth had you pause for a second. Being in a class with so few students meant that if you fail to befriend at least one of them, your situation won't change despite being in Gotham. Even if you would never admit it out loud, you were looking forward to spending time with other people. And the fact that all of them had already been familiar with each other for a few months didn't help. Not only did they have the time to get to know each other, but they are also most likely way ahead of you when it comes to their cursed energies.
Shoko was the easiest to get to know out of the three students in your class. Even if she loudly groaned when realising that the student all of them were waiting to meet was yet another man. Despite her initial disappointment, Shoko not only offered to show you around the school but also became your first friend you made after your mother's death.
You were having a much harder time trying to spend time with the other two students. Even with your lack of knowledge on the Jujutsu grading system and about curse energy, you still found them intimidating. Maybe it was that despite not being able to tell how, you could still sense their curse energy flowing around them. For a moment you even wondered if that was what Bruce and his kids felt when around you.
Gojo's cockyness when you first interacted with him made it hard for you to be interested in him. It might've been his asshole-like tendencies when talking, or maybe he reminded you too much of how Bruce acted on camera.
Geto ended up being easy to talk to; you just had to get over his intimidating nature. He was a good balance to Gojo, though most of the time he would team up with Satoru to try and get you and Shoko riled up.
Learning about your curse technique was less eventful than you imagined it would be. The first creature, a singular butterfly that insisted on attacking Gojo with its paper-thin wings, was nothing like the creatures, shikigami, your mother created. You looked towards Yaga, too embarrassed to watch Gojo trying to swat away your butterfly, waiting for his judgement.
"Everybody has to start somewhere." Yaga reassured you, trying to keep himself from smiling. "For now, focus on controlling him. Keep him from going after Gojo; it's his turn now."
It took months for your shikigami to actually be able to fight. Except for the first butterfly. It seemed that no matter how hard you tried, its form never changed. Shoko suggested that it might be venomous and asked for you to try and sneak attack Gojo with it. Both of you learned that the best your butterfly could do was tickle the back of Satoru's neck.
When Yaga announced your first mission, you were a nervous wreck. So far the most you did was to listen to Gojo's and Geto's conversation after defeating a curse. You knew that your mission would be much different than theirs.
The sorcerer you went with was more than happy to give you tips on defeating curses. They also made sure you knew that if anything were to go south, they would have your back.
In the end your shikigami managed to defeat the low-level curse without much damage to your body. Save for the few bruises and some scraped skin from when the curse dragged you along the old floors.
Yaga used it as an opportunity for Shoko to practice her technique. While she did, Gojo made sure to let you know that he wasn't impressed. He barely managed to finish his sentence before Geto smacked him in the back of his neck.
The first time you received a letter from Alfred, you almost didn't even open it. As much as you appreciated what he did for you during your year-long stay at the manor, you found no reason for the two of you to keep in contact.
It was just your luck that Shoko was there when you were handed the letter. She was the one that suggested you should at least try to keep contact with the butler.
"Your father is a piece of shit, but he has money, right?" Shoko asked, staring at the unopened letter. You nodded. "Well, money could be useful down the line. Can't always count on Gojo for it."
"I didn't get an account until I came here." You took the letter from her. "There's no way for him to send me the money, Ieiri."
"You should change that," Shoko suggested, trying to get the hair out of her face after the wind blew past the two of you. "I say you reply to him and answer some of the questions he has. Then mention the lack of funding and boom! Your daddy is our piggy bank."
You ended up listening to Shoko, sending your own letter back. Soon you and Alfred began exchanging letters. Not many; most of them were around holidays, but it was more often than you expected. Shoko called it a good thing, how it gives you time to build a connection before asking for Bruce's money.
Most of the time, the letters Alfred sent were about his happiness about your previous letter, a few updates about Bruce's family that you ignored and questions about your life in Japan. More often than not, the letters Alfred sent were longer than two pages, while yours rarely exceeded one page.
When around the winter holidays, you received a custom card with Bruce and his kids standing in front of the tree. Shoko lent you her lighter so you could burn it.
But as the summer approached, the number of letters Alfred was sending seemed to double; their focus moved from the household updates to questions about your return to Gotham for the summer. You ignored those questions at first; the summer at Jujutsu High looked different from the one he was used to, and you couldn't be bothered to try and explain that to him. Besides, even if the summer in your school were normal, you weren't planning on coming back to Gotham.
Soon, all the letters you received from Alfred were only focused on the summer break. He would go on and on about the plans he had for you, how great an opportunity it was for you to bond with your siblings and father. He even mentioned a new name in one of those letters.
You were fed up with reading about the butler's fantasy and how he seemed to forget that your 'father and siblings' had a year to get to know you but were too scared to do so. You decided to send him only one letter in return, no longer caring about being nice. The money be damned.
Dear Alfred,
I am staying in Japan. They need me here.
Also, I don't care about that Bruce's kid army grew. Please, stop telling me about them and about him too. I really couldn't care less.
โ (name).
You forget about the letter the moment you send it. It was easy to do so; between Yaga's classes and mission, you were rather spending time with your friends than worrying about how Alfred perceived your letter.
All four of you were after a mission supervised by Yaga when you spotted a familiar older man walking the streets of Tokyo. When Yaga noticed your staring, his eyes followed yours. He didn't recognise the man at first, even though he looked familiar. Only when you explained who that man was did Yaga encourage you to go and talk to him.
"Don't worry about the journey back. I'll figure something out." Yaga assured you.
Alfred seemed really happy to see you walk up to him. Almost too happy in your opinion. You almost regretted not lying to Yaga about you knowing him. Wishing to be out of your friend's sight, you suggest that you and Alfred go to a cafe to talk.
"So, will you tell me what you are doing here?" You asked after ordering.
"Your father gave me some time off." Alfred explained, reaching over the table to grab your hand. "I wanted to see you. I hoped you would visit us in Gotham."
"Yeah, I have way too many things to do here, training and all..." You make up excuses, trying to slip your hand from under Alfred's. "But don't you have your own family? Someone to visit?"
"My daughter is perfectly capable of handling herself." Alfred's hand is closer, tighter around yours, making you unable to take your hand away. "She doesn't need my help."
"I don't either. I have friends; Yaga is a great mentor, and he knew my mother well." You managed to rip your hand away. "Besides, wouldn't it be niceโ" you stopped when you noticed how tight the smile on Alfred's face was.
You ended up explaining why you wouldn't be able to visit Gotham just yet and how you wanted to secure your place in the society before taking time off. Seeing the distraught look on Alfred's face, you promised to be more interested in how Bruce's family was doing. At the end of your time at the cafe, Alfred gave you his phone number on a piece of paper, making you promise to call him from time to time.
"The timezones don't matter. I would be happy to talk with you even in the middle of the night." Alfred explained after you worried about the time difference.
Walking out of the cafe, you wondered what had gotten into the older man. You didn't remember him being like that when you were in the manor. It crossed your mind to mention to someone that Alfred might need to talk to someone, but you remembered that you had no connection to anyone in the manor other than him.
"Damn, that man was so weird." Satoru walked out from behind the corner when Alfred finally let go of the bone-crushing hug he pulled you into. "Who was he anyway?"
"My father's butler," you explain, looking back at Alfred, who was staring right at you and Gojo, no longer having a smile on his face.
"That didn't sound like a butler to me." Gojo raised his brow, looking between you and Alfred in the distance.
"I know," you sighed, your eyes not leaving Alfred's silhouette.
Maybe replying to his letter was a bad idea after all.
Hey, don't stress too much! My account was one of the ones that got tagged in that tier list, I think it'd be awesome if other creators you enjoy that were tagged in it saw you liked their fics! Like a morale boost! ๐
you're right! I'll just tag them so they know I love their fics, all of them deserve to know that <3
