❛ Honestly. And I guess it drives me crazy because I don’t really care about it the way they do. Beauty’s never been a big deal to me, and growing up with Jane and Jess never really changed that. ❜
“Yeah, but at least, we’re not as bad as the Zeus cabin. The egos in that cabin could be toned down a little. Some of them act way too self-entitled for my liking. ” She wasn’t the biggest fan of Zeus in general to be honest.
“You are undeniably hot,” Kay started, passing her the book beside him, “So I guess I can’t really argue with you. Anyway, do you actually enjoy reading? Whenever I try to, I just end up with a huge headache.”
“Thanks, I know,” she smiled, flipping towards the middle of the book. “Occasionally, I normally prefer nonfiction, but that’s what this book is for.” She revealed that the book was hollowed, “One of my siblings have been stealing stuff from the other cabins again.”

“That’s fair – they definitely deserved it.”
“Everyone assumes the Aphrodite Cabin are the divas of the camp, but nope it’s totally Apollo Cabin.”
“Okay, wait. Aren’t we all technically related? Obviously I have my cabin siblings. But isn’t Zeus like everyone’s father, so technically–we’re all cousins? Anyway... I don’t really know how this tree works, but the point is: I’m pretty sure I’m the hot one of the family.”
“Good to know, but I’m pretty sure Apollo is the hot one of the family since he’s well the god of the sun. Can you pass me the book next to you please?”
“All I can imagine is a tiny Mayra bossing everyone around.”
“Oh my Gods, I was the worst. The only good thing about that era was the cute ponytails I had. Hermione Granger has nothing on me, I was so bossy.”

“I blame Zeus.” A sound of thunder goes off as if Zeus is personally offended causing Ophelia to roll her eyes but she doesn’t pause the conversation. “He seems like the type of guy who doesn’t like chocolate.”
“Maybe he had a bad experience with chocolate? Like a romance gone wrong sort of bad,” she made it come off as a joke, hoping Zeus wouldn’t be offended by it.

“They do mean well, but I can see where you’re coming from as well. I think the big issue is that a lot of them have this idea that they have to conform to beauty standards in order to be accepted which isn’t what mom advocates for at all.”
“If we continue digging in that direction,” Isaac said, pointing in the general direction of west. “I’m sure you can find Beyonce’s mansion in a few months time. Although, you might be a few hundred feet below her mansion.”
At her words, he couldn’t help but let out a loud laugh. “The art of hitting things is an undervalued form of construction. Usually, if you hit it enough, the disruptive gears would no longer be an issue.” Usually, he emphasized. He didn’t like to admit it, but he had been having a series of bad luck with his inventions. Whacking it hard enough had proven itself to be better than carefully thought out plans and blueprints — and this time, it seemed to be working out.
“Hey — did you hear that?” The excitement in his voice almost lit up the dark tunnel. At his final hit, the door appear to be on the brink of giving way, with the tell-tale signs of groans from the gears. “Mayra, come on, give it a little push,” he said, putting his entire weight against the door.
“Beyonce probably has an private underground hot spring spot below her mansion though,” she attempted to make light of their current situation. It wasn’t completely his fault that they were trapped down here and taking her frustration out on him wouldn’t help them.
“Huh, I thought that only worked in the movies,” she nodded her head, a sign that she was slightly surprised. She was a by the book kind of person, which helped when it came to taking care of the ever full Aphrodite cabin. Brushing a spiderweb out of her hair, she could already picture her cabin’s reaction when she returns.
“I w-,” her next comment was cut off by the sound of the gears groaning. "Oh my gods,” she ran over to his side and started to push against the door. “Next time, you guys should consider building an escape door or tunnel in cases like this.”

“What if I do this?” he waved his right hand, muttering the words he practiced with one of his siblings yesterday. Two of the swords besides his feet started to levitate above their heads.
❛ Hm, I guess. I’m not blaming anyone, of course — just need a break, I suppose. ❜
"How long of a break are we talking?”
“Okay,” he said, sweat dripping down his forehead rapidly. “I know it sounds bad, but it isn’t. Really.” With his tools in his hands, Isaac started hitting the uncooperative gears with a substantial amount of force, hoping to silence it. “There seems to be something jamming the entrance — it should have opened up with a push of this button,” he said, his nervous laughter reverberating through the tunnel.
“But, hey, it would be a g r e a t story to tell your grandchildren, right? Being stuck below Cabin 9 because your brilliant friend thought that building another underground room was a good idea. And, come on, admit it — it’s a pretty solid idea.”
Mayra had stopped by Cabin 9 to discuss expanding Cabin 10 underground and she somehow ended up stuck in an underground room with Issac. “A better story I could tell my grandchildren is the time their grandmother met Beyonce or even when their great grandmother visited their grandmother and helped her get ready for prom,” she said, crossing her arms. She watched him hit the gears with his tools, “Is this how you guys normally fix things? By hitting them? I thought more reverse engineering would be involved.”
Admitting defeat, she took a seat on the floor and waited for him to solve the problem and started to wonder if this was why her mother kept Ares around.

“There’s only so much a cabin counselor can do,” she sighed,
❝ Who taught you how to hold a sword? Your grip is completely wrong. ❞
“Damn, those Ares kids. Care to show me the correct way to hold it?”
❝ anyone wants to stop with the kid games and actually get some practice in; you come and find me. i promise that i WON’T go easy on you. ❞
“Maybe I’m already practicing right now,” he smirked with his hands raised in the air.
Ophelia rolled her eyes, “You know how much I hate chocolate, Mayra.”
“I still don’t understand how that’s possible.”
“I know I definitely wasn’t, I was a great child plus I didn’t have a knife when I was their ages.”
“I spent more time keeping everyone else out of trouble to be causing it.”
