Ok...I really need to find some consistency here again.
Here’s some My Bubba to (hopefully) get things back on track.
Enjoy!

I missed another day...I’ll get better at this.
Here’s a really good song by a really good duo.
Enjoy!
Ok...I’ve been a bit neglectful with this the past week. Things are busy. The Cubs are in the playoffs. Too many distractions.
But we’ll get back on track here.
Starting with a fantastic song that Jeff Tweedy wrote for Mavis Staples. Here he is playing it with her and it is lovely.
Enjoy!
Have I missed two days in a row??? Oops....better come back with something big.
In that case, here is one of the best songs ever.
Enjoy!
John Lennon’s birthday was on Friday. He would have been 75.
It is unfathomable to think of a musician/celebrity being assassinated today. Maybe it is the accessibility offered by things like twitter and other mediums that make these people seem more “normal” and relatable. Or maybe it is that most modern day “celebrities” simply just aren’t worth a damn. Without having been there at the time...I probably can’t really explain it.  Point is, the Kardashians and Biebers of the world are polarizing because they generally suck and disgust people. John was polarizing because he must have mattered.
The President of the United States tried to have him deported, for God’s sake. Granted, that President was a super paranoid Richard Nixon, but whatever.
This song is one of his better post-Beatles songs from probably his best post-Beatles record. (Except that I’m not a huge fan of the production...have I mentioned how much I DON’T LIKE Phil Spector? Ah, yes, I have.)
Enjoy!
Tumbleweed Connection is a fantastic record. This is the first song, and I think it does a tremendous job at setting the tone for the rest of the record. Plus it’s just a fun song.
Enjoy!
Still on a big Pixies kick.
Enjoy!
Sometimes...Johnny Cash.
Enjoy!
Discovered this gem today.
Enjoy!
I think I went the entire month of September without posting a My Bubba song. I promise I will never let that happen again.
Enjoy!
I’ve REALLY been on a Pixies high for a good few weeks now. I think they are fantastic.
I never realized how many elements of music from the 1990s and 2000s can draw a direct line right back to the Pixies. But it’s all there, you can clearly hear it. I read a quote the other day where Kurt Cobain had said that Nirvana’s uber-famous “Nevermind” record was essentially just his attempt at trying to be the Pixies.
It works the other way around too, as there is a very “surf rock”/1960s feel to much of their work. It’s almost like they serve as a perfect link between the 1960s/70s and the 1990s/2000s.
I was talking to someone about the Pixies the other day, and I described them by saying: “If Modest Mouse, Nirvana, the Beach Boys, and David Bowie had a child, and that child lived in the 1980s, THAT would be the Pixies.”
Enjoy!
It was brought to my attention that October 2nd was the 15th anniversary of the release of Radiohead’s Kid A. It is still one of the more interesting and, for better or worse, influential records I think I’ve ever heard.
The “electronic revolution” probably would have happened anyway, but the impact that this record had on the introduction of new electronic elements into music can not be denied. That’s not necessarily a good thing.
Now, Thom Yorke and the crew are exceptionally smart and talented people, and for them it still came down to having quality, well-written song foundations that then underwent a drastic electronic transformation. If it is going to be done, that is how you do it the right way, and the electronic elements can be used to enhance an already-good piece of music. Much of this record lives up to that standard. Much of what has followed by other artists has not.
This is actually one of the more simple, organic songs on the record.
Enjoy!
She is just too perfect.
Enjoy!
Going back to the Beach Boys.
Fun fact: the Pet Sounds album cover photo was shot at the San Diego Zoo.
Enjoy!
Listening to Ben Folds yesterday put me in a “piano” mood, which naturally led me to Billy Joel. This is one of his best, although it’s not really one of the “piano-est”. Whatever.
Enjoy!
Today I’m going with the first song that just happened to pop into my head. Not sure why i was thinking of this, but I was.
Enjoy!
You knew this was coming next.
Every time an airplane flies over my apartment (so like every 5 minutes...), I think of this song.
Enjoy!
