London Skies
England and I are a life long story.
My love affair with England has been almost two decades in the making. It first started back then in 1997 when Spice Girls released the catchy dance-pop song 'Stop' from their second album. Back in those days, the seven year old me and my girlfriends lived by the 'girl power' code and sang the lyrics to Spice Girls songs at the top of our lungs. We were interested in everything about Spice Girls: their music, fashion, and where they came from. Their songs are actually my earliest memory of opening a dictionary and learning the English language.
Fast forward to four years later, I became a Potterhead. What Kathleen Kelly from You've Got Mail movie said, "When you read a book as a child, it becomes a part of your identity, in a way that no other reading in your life does", felt so true. Harry Potter made me dwell upon friendship, sacrifice, and the grey area between black and white. On a lighter note, Harry Potter movies ignited my fondness of English actors. When Tom Felton, who played the notorious Slytherin bad boy Draco Malfoy, said what is arguably one of the most memorable quotes of the Harry Potter series "Wait 'til my father hears about this!" in his adorable accent, I knew I'd be a long time fan. And yes, I'm a Tom Felton fan through and through until this very day.
During my high school years, Jamie Cullum was just starting to make it big in the music industry. His version of 'Everlasting Love' was picked as Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason soundtrack and 'Mind Trick' became a huge hit. Both songs were lovely, but I never really got into him until I heard the melodic 'London Skies'. Its chorus repeatedly loops inside my head: "Will you let me romanticize/ The beauty in our London Skies/ You know the sunlight always shines/ Behind the clouds of London Skies". How could something we took for granted- the sky- inspire someone to write such a beautiful song?
So, are you still asking me why I should go to England? It's not only about Spice Girls, Potter, London Skies; or even The Beatles, London Eye, Benedict Cumberbatch, Neil Gaiman, Premier League; or hundreds of other things I love about this country. For me it's about growing up. England and its influence have been there in every step of the way, giving splashes of colour into my life in the form of music, movies, and literature. It has been one of those things that simply mold me into who I am today.
I'd love to get a chance to finally see and experience the beauty of London Skies with my own two eyes. Help a girl out Mister Potato, take me to England!

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai, Thailand
One of the most sacred temples in Northern Thailand, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, is located at the Doi Suthep Mountain that looms over Chiang Mai. The main sight is the giant copper-plated chedi in the center of the temple. On a cloudless day, it also offers an impressive view of Chiang Mai and its city walls from 3,542 ft above sea level.
Beside those, my favourite part of visiting this temple was probably riding on the songthaew (some sort of share taxi) from the city. The road was uphill and zigzag, yet your songthaew kept driving on what must be above the speed limit. There were no seat belts, only a small handle above your head. Do give this mode of transportation a try, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride! :D

Wat Rong Khun, Chiang Rai, Thailand
Wat Rong Khun -also known as the White Temple- is the masterpiece of one of Thailand’s most famous artists, Chalermchai Kositpipat. Although this temple is still a work in progress (designed in 1997, expected to finish in 2070), its current state still left me in awe. The way the sunlight was reflected by the temple walls, the otherworldly statues, and the colour contrast to the blue sky made this temple seem majestic.
Visiting Wat Rong Khun truly felt like walking through a wardrobe and arriving at the Castle of the White Witch of Narnia. Magical!
