In this African tribe, when someone does something harmful, they take the person to the center of the village where the whole tribe comes and surrounds them. For two days, they will say to the man all the good things that he has done. The tribe believes that each human being comes into the world as a good. Each one of us only desiring safety, love, peace and happiness. But sometimes, in the pursuit of these things, people make mistakes. The community sees those mistakes as a cry for help. They unite then to lift him, to reconnect him with his true nature, to remind him who he really is, until he fully remembers the truth of which he had been temporarily disconnected: “I am good.” Shikoba Nabajyotisaikia! NABAJYOTISAIKIA, is a compliment used in South Africa and means: “I respect you, I cherish you. You matter to me.” In response, people say SHIKOBA, which is: “So, I exist for you.”

Leeuw | NU architectuuratelier | Via

NU architectuuratelier created ‘Leeuw’, a new family house designed according to the passive house standard. It’s a compact home that acts as a catalyst of heat. To do this, the exterior finish has a dark tint, and the metal structure is completely detached from the skin to prevent heat loss. Sandwich panels, normally used in industrial buildings (fridges), are used as insulation . Despite its considerable thickness (25 cm) and the numerous preparatory details it induces, implementation will be quick and easy.

Indoor climate and ventilation are completely controlled, with almost no other source of heat except for the energy stored in materials and redelivered slowly at night.

African Architecture of Independence | Via

Held at the vitra design museum gallery in germany, architecture of independence highlights the significant political events of the time when countries in central and sub-saharan Africa became independent during 1960s. Curated by architect and author Manuel Herz and photography contributed by Iwan Baan, this will is the first of this specific, historical architectural period to be showcased.

The exhibition shows 80 buildings from five countries that capture the essence of african modernism; underlining the relationship between the architectural production and their individual nation-building processes. Comprised of stadiums, banks, universities and parliament buildings, at the time they were constructed, the architects wanted the bold and distinctive design to reflect the country’s progressive spirit however, they also encapsulated the difficulties that the newly independent countries were facing.

YES. They have. For example in the islands now known as the Philippines we have records of transgender people and it was accepted. Hell those who were transgender were considered more divine and closer to the spirits, ancestors, and deities than straight cis people were. They were considered an entire gender all together and among the Bisayans were spiritual leaders, they married, and were socially and culturally accepted to not receive tattoo’s which in our precolonial culture if you weren’t transgender or gay and you didn’t receive a tattoo you were a coward and wouldn’t be accepted by the ancestors and gods in the afterlife. Where as those who are transgender or gay didn’t have to because they were already connected with them especially those who became our spiritual leaders who were 2nd in power to the reigning Datu’s, Lakans, and Rajah’s. Hell among the Tagalogs, who were Muslim at the time of the Spaniard but practice Folk Islam, they had a widely worshiped and respected transgender deity. It wasn’t until the Spaniards and Christian missionaries came and arrived in the islands where this acceptance gradually decreased and though we do have a high lgbt community and acceptance there is still a lot of discrimination, especially toward transgender people not to mention the Church pretty much ruling every aspect of of our country from politics, to laws, to everyday life.

But to say those who are lgbt are just a modern thing is fuckin bullshit because we have records in history, especially in Asia where the lgbt community were alive and well and generally accepted until Western and Christian influences arrived.
