This was a good day, even on Jakku, Rey stated in mind as she walked through the bazaar in Niima Outpost. She had just visited AMPS, the welding droid, who sometimes accepted jokes as payment for his work. This day he accepted Rey’s joke - he seemed to like it a lot, as much as this could be seen on a droid. On the top of that, she had received a fair amount of portions for a generator from Unkar which was a rarity nowadays.
On the way to her speeder, she even let herself look around the bazaar, which was definitely not for scavengers like her, but for the passengers of those foreign ships that landed on Jakku every once in a while. There were not many things to sell: some blasters, vibroblades or parts of old strormtrooper armours. Then she noticed a girl about the same age as her walking in the bazaar. She must have been a foreigner, she thought, because she had never seen her here before.
Rey wasn’t the only one watching her - the scavenger saw one of Unkar’s men eyeing her, too. As she couldn’t be much older than Rey, her curiosity woke up and she suddenly found herself wondering where was she coming from and what she was doing here, in the middle of nowhere. She knew that nothing much, unless she was well-armed, because now there were two of Unkar’s men watching her, which was not a good sign. She took a deep breath and started walking towards the girl as if she was just passing by. She knew that Unkar’s guys would not harm her - they already knew that they shouldn’t.
“I wouldn’t buy this,” she said to the girl, throwing a glance of the stormtrooper breastplate. “It’s too scratched.”

Rey walked through the canteen with a tray in her hands when she noticed Merga sitting on her own. Or as far as she could remember, her name was Merga. The only thing she knew about her was that she used to be a knight of Ren and there were rumors about her being General Organa’s daughter. She wasn’t sure this was true, as sometimes Resistance members were speaking about a lot of things. Once she heard about herself that she could light fires with her own eyes.
That wasn’t true, obviously. This did not mean that she was not Leia’s daughter, though. She wanted to ask a few questions of her, about the knights of Ren and the Force. Not right away, of course, because this was not an interrogation.
“Hello,” she greeted her, approaching the table Merga was sitting at. “May I sit here?”

“I always knew this rebel scum had no taste,” Rey mumbled to her reflection wearing a green bathrobe she had found in the laundry room. Actually, only the body was hers, the mind belonged to the First Order’s Supreme Leader. Well, Ex-Supreme Leader. It won’t be easy to feel like a ruler dressed in such fabrics, he thought, but this green robe was the closest to his favourite clothing. How much he missed his own, glorious wardrobe! At least the slippers he had found were comfortable. How could someone live with such small feet like this girl? Incredible.
After checking her reflection one more time, Rey headed towards the kitchen to make a tea. She hoped the resistance had some in the kitchen.

“Eleven,” came the immediate reply. Shoya knew her cargo like the back of her hand; she’d already made that mistake, and learned it the hard way. Always know what’s on your ship. “I would appreciate the help. Thank you.”
Bracing on one side of a crate, she nodded to indicate the woman take the other end. “I did not hear anything. But I did not ask. I do not question the First Order. I leave that to the Resistance.”
Rey nodded, then she rubbed her hands together. “Alright, let’s get to it,” she said and flashed a small smile at the other woman. The porgs must have gone away as they were nowhere to be found. “Before leaving, check your ship,” she told the pilot. “Porgs are curious creatures and they tend to go to places where they shouldn’t.”
She took the crate on the opposite end to bring it out of the ship. “I see,” Rey said with another nod. “Sorry for jumping at that thing, but... I grew up on Jakku, and there’s hardly anything on that planet. It’s weird that of all the planets in the galaxy, the First Order wanted to go to Jakku.”

Derek tried to hold it in, his green eyes narrowing at the girl. He had no idea who she was, but she definitely got on his nerves. “And here I am, back with it less than a minute later. You can calm down about it. I’m not going to come over here again with your attitude. I rather work with other species on this ship than you.” He definitely didn’t ever want to talk to her again if he didn’t have to.
Rey could tell she was getting on the young man’s nerves, but this feeling was mutual. It was him who took something without asking and he acted like it was natural. For Rey it wasn’t. She got angry with him, because his attitude ruined the picture she had about the Resistance people. “Thank you,” she said with a tone less sarcastic than earlier, but after hearing his last words, she was annoyed again. “No worries, I don’t mind it. I would rather be cleaning a happabore’s nose than working with you.” Well, maybe that was too harsh, but she genuinely felt that way at that moment.

Standing in front of the tap with a toothbrush in her hand, Rey was thinking through her plans for the day: repairing X-Wings, having lunch with Finn, going to the pilot’s meeting in the afternoon and then…
She could swear that a minute ago, she could remember what she had planned for the evening, but now it was gone; it was all gone and the only thing that filled her mind was a wave of cold hatred coming out of the blue.
What was going on? Was somebody trying to get into her head? Her fingers clenched around the toothbrush as she tried to focus, to lock her mind preventing the intruder to get into her thoughts. She was concentrating so hard that it physically hurt and whoever wanted to invade her brain, they did not stop.
The toothbrush fell onto the floor and Rey had to hold onto the tap in order to stand on her feet, because it hurt too much. Then it suddenly ended. She felt as if she was locked into a box, somewhere deep inside her own mind. Her own mind which was taken over by someone who filled her brain with hate and revenge.
I have to find him, she thought. The one who betrayed me. In the mirror there was Rey’s face, but the thoughts belonged to someone else. Without finishing brushing her teeth, she grabbed the blaster on the nightstand, then left the small room, heading toward the hangars.
I have to find him.

“I think asking for it would be a bit useless when you know what we are here to do,” he said, one eyebrow perfectly raised to question her and her tone. “We are a team. I’m not going to ask you each time I need to use a tool.” He wasn’t going to be questioned each time and have this type of reaction. “I don’t want to lecture you, but your expression makes me know you’re pissed off so I thought I would explain myself.”
Useless, really? “I don’t think it would be useless,” Rey said. “Even if we all know why we are here and even if we are a team, I don’t think that a ‘Can I take this?’ would hurt anyone,” she told him. “I just put that wrench down for two seconds to adjust my gloves, because I cannot do that with a tool in my hand,” she explained herself. This was why she was pissed off, and also because she would have been done with that part of the X-Wing by now instead of arguing whether politeness was useless in teamwork.

Shoya shrugged, ready to start hauling crates again. It didn’t matter to her where these ended up, as long as she got payed. Hopefully someone would show up to help, but if not, she could manage by herself or with just Rey.
The question took her a bit off guard; not the question itself, but the surprise. “I do not know. I do not question the First Order. Their control is spreading throughout the Outer Rim, now. There are only a few unaffected worlds left.” Encouraging words, especially saying to a member of the resistance. It did rub Shoya the wrong way… but she wasn’t going to fight the status quo. Head down. That’s how you survived.
“How many crates do you have for us?” Rey asked. “I can help you take them out,” she offered. She might call someone else for help if there were many crates - if not, she and the other woman would manage.
Seeing her reaction, Rey realized that she might have been too hars or too quick to respond, so she tried to pull her thoughts together. It wasn’t easy, though, knowing that in Jakku there was only sand, heat and wrecked ships. What did the First Order found there that raised their interest? “I’m sorry, it’s just surprising,” she admitted. “And since you’ve been there, I’ve thought you might have heard something,” she added.
