willow was still impressed with herself that she had gotten derek to come here of all places. the fact he had even let her put face paint on him was even more of a feat. but really at this point all willow had to do was flash derek a cheeky little smile and he let her do whatever to him. it was how she got away with most things and she liked using it to her advantage whenever possible. just like tonight when she wanted to go out with derek. "if he does, then he can just be embarrassed when i don't give him the time of day," she expressed to him, using her hand to cup his cheek and force his handsome gaze right back onto her. the singer just wanted to have a fun date night and that couldn't happen if derek went all alpha on everyone. "can't we just focus on us right now? i really like this song and i want to dance with you and only you."
there was no one else that would have been able to convince derek to come out in such a setting or to even put paint on his face but willow always managed to get him to do the things he was least comfortable with. it didn't make his body any less stiff. her hand forced his gaze back to hers, the lights of the place reflecting off her darker hues. "dance with me?" he asked, his eyebrows shooting up on his forehead. he really hadn't thought that far ahead and he couldn't remember the last time he danced with anyone. "okay," he nodded his head and moved his body in closer to hers, the guys that were giving her attention were forgotten in favor of him now invading her space, his heartbeat ticking up in pace as his nerves rushed through his entire body.
"Mhm, I guess you have a point. I counter that with; a little change can spice things up. Being repetitive can get dull after a while." Routines never worked well for Sage in the long run. Usually running off schedule and adding something spontaneous. She lived to live life, not just go through the motions and she hoped she brought some of that out in Derek. "I felt like indulging a bit. Pasta, wine and a hot date? You can't go wrong with that combination."
He liked the fact that Sage liked to change things up. Derek was so used to routines which was something that came from his life turning upside in his teens. It was about control and knowing what was coming next rather than being met with another surprise. She was starting to make him see that the unknown wasn't so bad which made him feel more at ease to try new things. "No, you can't go wrong with that and I did pick you up a bottle of your favorite when I got groceries earlier if you wanted to indulge later as well," he said with another smile. "And maybe something sweet too."
He had a point there, and it was one she acknowledged with a nod of her head. There was a time when she believed in the GCPD, too, but then…she had to grow up a little. “I won’t even ask. Sounds like something you want to leave behind.” Selina had heard a few rumors but none were worth parroting back to him. Selina let out a huff of laughter at his suggestion, and she began to push herself up slowly and carefully, so she was leaning against the armrest.
“I’d rather work for you in that private sector of yours if I had to choose,” she told Derek. The moment she said that, however, she realized that she was starting to like the idea. Sure, being her own brand of Robin Hood was nice and all, but she was getting tired of risking her life and her safety. Basically, the criminal life wasn’t as appealing anymore, and if there was a way for her to get out of it and stay off of the GCPD’s – and every other cop’s – radar, then she was going to take it. “I hope you won’t be giving me some desk job, though. I’ve already experienced it, and I prefer being out there, doing the leg work. Never was scared to get my hands dirty. Though I think you wouldn’t let me keep my bullwhip, would you? Or my suit.”
He appreciated that she didn't push him for more details about Kate and how she had basically ruined his life. Selina understood what it was like to have secrets and she wasn't one to try and pry his own out just so she could understand him better. He stirred the pot of noodles, watching as they softened in the boiling water slowly. His stomach grumbled, giving away that he was actually pretty hungry after everything they had been through. His eyebrows raised at her suggestion, his mind immediately going to what they had already worked on together. They actually did make a pretty good team, a fact he didn't think he would ever admit to. "How can you be in private investigations if you're running around in a catsuit with a bullwhip?" He asked with a small chuckle from his lips. "You'd be talked about immediately and they'd likely be trying to find out who the hell is running around town looking like that." He was thinking that they would go somewhere smaller than Gotham to start over. He turned off the heat on the stove and looked for a strainer. "You don't want to keep stealing things anymore?"
It was easier because it meant that at the end of the day they still had each other. At least for her that is how it felt. Because they were friends, they got along and he's been the most stable component of her life lately. Part of her was scared that now that they've broken that tension, their messy ways were bound to bleed into them. "Oh please like you make it any easier. Also, you are one to talk, you set me up with a few people along the way." He was right though. Any time they teetered too close to the edge, she's find someone to keep him distracted. Slip away and act like nothing happened. The socialite sighed softly. "Honestly? I don't know. I mean, we set them for a reason right?" She asked, finally turning to look at them. "But if we meant them, we wouldn't have done this either."
He wasn't entirely sure if this had been a good idea because it had blurred their friendship with one another but there was another part of him that knew they couldn't go back. He didn't want to either, aware that everything might get messy now that they were planning to maybe explore all of this more. "None of those people worked out though," he commented with a small shrug. And maybe he had picked some that he knew wouldn't. "We did. I believe we set them one night when we were drunk complaining about how there were no good people in the world left for either of us." He couldn't recall the exact conversation but he did remember they had agreed it was better they remain friends. "If it gets complicated then who says we can't go back to how it was before?"
...werewolf?
The word didn't even sound real to her right now because that was something reserved for movies and books and TV shows. Basically, anything but real life. Ysabelle felt another tear slide down her cheek. "I'm sorry," she said, but even as she said that, it all sounded hollow. But she wasn't sorry about trying to figure out what happened to her dad. He was all that she had left, and...well, she didn't have anyone anymore, and she wanted to know why.
The pain that she was feeling in her chest seemed to get more intense, until she realized it was coming from her side, and she grimaced, her sobs interrupted by her sudden gasps for air. When she felt his fingers close over the back of her hand, though, she was shocked when the pain started to ease up somewhat, and she looked up at him. "How..how do you know so much about this, Derek? Are you...oh...don't tell me you're a werewolf too." The way she said it sounded like she was disappointed, but she couldn't help but think that if there was someone she hoped did understand this more than her, it would be him.
There's concern written all over his features. He had been in a position like this before with Paige. Her body never accepted the bite and he had to watch her suffer through it all before putting her out of her misery. It had done a number on him and seeing Ysabelle in so much pain took him back to when he was only sixteen and so naive. He chose to focus on the black veins in his arm, his breathing trying to steady. He couldn't take too much or he would risk losing his own abilities. He really wished she had listened to him about staying out of the woods. "Why are you so concerned if I am? You're about to be one as well." He commented lowly, his eyes flickering up to hers. His were flickering between red and green, the pain triggering his abilities the more he pulled. "I was born a werewolf. I planned on telling you eventually and maybe if I had then we could have avoided you getting bitten by some random alpha." That was something he was going to have to investigate later, his attention solely on her. "Take deep breaths and try to keep your strength up even if it hurts. It might help you transition better."

he didn't know how he had gotten talked into this. the music was loud, the lights were bright and he couldn't help but feel as though he stood out compared to everyone else with his stiff muscles and lack of dance moves. he also didn't like the fact that every man and woman in the place immediately looked at willow. he wasn't used to so much attention in such a small space. the pull to his body shocked him a little, questioning her to mask his surprise. "and what if he comes over here and starts talking to you?" he already knew the answer as she had just said she was there with him, not the other. "these guys don't know how to take no as an answer and i'm supposed to be making sure you're protected, willow."
"Stick to what you know, right?" Sage teases a bit, looking over the menu. Sometimes she stuck to the same thing but once in a while she liked to change it up. They have come to this restaurant many of times at this point. It was their go to dinner date place when they felt up to it. Actually where they had their first official date and it would always hold a special little place in her heart. "I think I want the risotto. Something about it is just drawing my attention. That and a glass of red."

"You find less disappointment when you stick to what you know," he commented with a nod. He leaned back a bit in his chair as he waited for her to decide what she was getting. She wasn't like him in the sense that she would change up her order every now and then. Derek liked to keep things simple. "And a glass of red wine? You must be feeling good tonight." He teased with a bigger smile on his lips. It was such a change from earlier when she had been mad at him and he was happy that she was coming around again. The waiter came back and took their orders, promising to be back with her drink quickly.
It was like a dance between them. A few steps from being something more but always stepping away before it got too close. It was scary for her to get close to anyone. She never stayed the night and if by chance she did, she was gone before the sun rose and the other woke up. Sleeping with Derek released some of the tension that had been building between them for a while but it still made her nervous. Nervous because of the what ifs, the things that could go wrong. It what her mind goes to. A snort of laughter leaves her at the question. "You make me sound like a pimp." She smirked before her shoulders lift in a small shrug. "I don't know. I guess, it was easier that way than to really decipher what goes on between us."

The feeling of everything becoming real was weighing heavy on him. Maybe that was why they had never tried anything before. It was easier to see each other getting messy with others rather than each other. "You were hard to decipher. Not sure I would call you a pimp but you did always seem to find a girl that would take my attention for the rest of the night. You were good at it, too." He smiled softly and glanced over at her briefly before his eyes were back on the road. Luckily, his place wasn't very far away from the bar they had met at. "Do you think it's a bad thing that we went past the boundaries we had originally set?"
“I…” Her hand flew to her side, and she immediately winced, both from the effort and from her hand pressing against the wound. “…I just had to see, Derek. I needed to know, maybe there was something there, a clue, something…” But even as she spoke, she could tell it sounded stupid. Foolish. Rash. And now, she had been bitten by God-knows-what, and based on his reaction, it was worse than she thought.
“I don’t remember much, just a flash of red and a big black thing bounding towards me. Then I woke up and managed to get myself checked out. Thought they patched me up already.” But from the sticky warmth she was feeling on her side, it was likely that her getting up and moving around had caused the fragile stitches to come apart. “I’m sorry. But he was my dad. I have to figure out what happened.” She sighed, ignoring the stab of pain as she sat down, her hand pressed to her side to keep the blood from trickling out. “Do you know what it is? The one that did this to me? The nurse there said that it looked like a bite, but I’m pretty sure that I didn’t hear anyone moaning for brains.”
This was far worse than he thought when he had felt the shift in the night. It wasn't because of what was happening outside, it was Ysabelle that had changed. She was bit, by some werewolf that he didn't know and that made things dangerous for the both of them. "Why would you go out into the woods when I told you not to by yourself?" He sighed deeply, exhausted already by all the stress this was about to add to their lives. If she had just listened to him and stayed put then she wouldn't even be hurt right now.
"Likely a wolf of some sort," he said at first, his head tilting to the side as he looked her over up and down. It was bleeding a lot which meant either her abilities were about to kick in or the bite was going to take over and kill her. The second thought made his heart drop and he stepped towards her, reminders of Paige lingering in his mind and how she didn't make it. "Here," he reached for her hand, taking hers in his so that he could slowly starting pulling some of the pain from her. His veins turned black when he did, a small hiss coming from his lips. "You were bitten by a werewolf, Ysabelle. That's why everything is probably feeling like a lot to you right now."

“You noticed that, too?” she asked softly, her gaze dropping back down to her hands. Weeks ago, if someone told her that she would end up falling asleep next to Derek Hale, she would’ve told them they were drunk. Ysabelle knew of him, the high school basketball star, the tragic half of his year’s It couple, and the only son of the popular Hale family. Whereas she…well, she was dividing time between her dad and her mom’s since their divorce when she was in her freshman year, meaning she attended two different high schools. At least the split had been amicable, but it was enough to make a then-teenager’s head spin.
Now, though, they’d somehow come to an agreement that she could stay with him in his loft, and now, she was staring down at her trembling hands. She probably shouldn’t mention that she’d snuck out earlier to try and visit her dad’s cabin – his disappearance was why she’d gone back to town in the first place – only for her to black out and wake up with her side bleeding. Not by much, but the nurse who’d helped her said it looked suspiciously like a bite. “Don’t know what it is, but yeah, I…don’t know…”
The hair on the back of his neck stood up, his eyes daring to change color as he looked at her. She smelled different, not like the Ysabelle he had gone to sleep next to, something was going on in her body and he could sense it. His gaze moved over her body and it narrowed on her side, a bit of red on her shirt told him what he needed to know. "What is that?" He asked, pointing at the spot that she failed to mention. He wasn't even sure how she would have even gotten hurt when she was supposed to be by his side all night. A long sigh left his lips, his eyes closing as he realized she had likely snuck out and gotten her.
"Ysabelle, did you leave the loft?" He had told her before that it wasn't safe to do so. He had been keeping track of all the different wolf attacks that had been happening around town and now she had become a victim of it herself. His fingertips brushed up the bridge of his nose to his forehead, a new worry coming to his mind. "Do you know what bit you? Did you get a look at it?"
"Mhm, can't deny that it has been a bit since I've spent the day in bed. Especially with some handsome company." She teased, flashing a soft but playful smile his way before she lets go of his hand before moving to the other side of the car so they can head back to his place and see where the rest of the night takes them. The kiss to her cheek had her cheeks flushed pink. Bashful over the more romantic contact that she avoided so much. "Guess we should see where the night leads."
Derek can't remember the last time he spent a day in bed with anyone. He usually left in the morning when it came to him sleeping around with others but Celeste was different. They were friends that had been on the edge of more for a long time, it was about time they explore that. "Guess so, I'm happy to do it with such beautiful company." He said as he got in the driver's side of the car and waited for her to get comfortable in the passenger seat before he took off to his place. "How come we never tried any of that before? You usually pawn me off to a girl whenever we go out."
Sage has always been like this with boyfriends in the past. A relationship was about best friends being together. It was the only way it worked in her eyes. As long as you could have fun, joke and laugh with each other, you were destined for a long love life. In reality, they probably had enough time but something felt like they should get back as soon as possible. Hide themselves away from any distractions or interruptions. "You can never go wrong with cannolis." She chuckled. Interlacing their fingers, they walk in together. Being with Derek makes her feel happy and content. That no matter what they went through, they'd come out on top. "Oooo, a meatball sub actually sounds delicious."
Walking inside hand and hand made things feel like they had gone back to how they were supposed to be. She wasn't mad at him anymore which had him feeling relaxed as they were seated at his usual table. "A meatball sub does sound good. I'm going to stick with the chicken parmesan though. It never fails me." He doesn't even need to look at the menu, he had visited the small restaurant so many times before and he always got the same thing. Their waiter came by to give them some bread and water, greeting them both as she had seen the pair multiple times here together. She gave them a few more minutes which led to Derek staring at Sage with a little smile on his lips. "So did you decide what you're getting?"
