I was speaking plainly. Painfully plainly, actually. There was a premise, an implication, and an obvious conclusion. You possess a coin to which you routinely delegate decisions of varying importance. I was attempting to ascertain whether romantic propositions fall within its jurisdiction before investing time in a courtship strategy that might ultimately be vetoed by twenty-five cents’ worth of oxidized metal.

Which, incidentally, is not insecurity. It is due diligence.

You see, ordinarily, when one person expresses interest in another, there exists a reasonably predictable sequence of social cues. Flirtation. Reciprocal flirtation. Escalation. An invitation. Acceptance or rejection. Very straightforward. Almost insultingly so.

You, however, have introduced an additional variable. And I am not going to spend three weeks determining whether you find me charming only to discover that my romantic prospects are contingent upon the ballistic properties of a thumb.

Furthermore, I resent the implication that I’m speaking in circles simply because you failed to arrive at the extraordinarily obvious destination toward which I was directing you.
