Portuguese Bend National Horse Show - 2015 I had good show this weekend though not without its challenges. I know that I’m getting good show miles when I’m faced with a challenge and I can walk away having learned something from it. But I had a real “pay it forward” moment at the show too.

I met a really sweet girl that came up to me after my class. She asked if she could pet my horse and told me how she desperately wanted to learn to ride but her family couldn’t afford it. I asked her if she wanted to come to the barn with me to help me take care of my horse and her face just lit up. Jose Urzua taught her to pick the hooves correctly and I showed her how to give a horse a treat without getting her fingers bit off. Her joy when she was around the horses was infectious and something I really related to. It was the first time I’d felt like I had the power to inspire someone else in the same way I’d been inspired as a crazy pony kid.

I had been nitpicking my round and feeling bummed, but after meeting her I felt a total change in perspective. It reminded me that being an equestrian isn’t just about competitions, it’s for the love of being with these special creatures. It really touched my heart and made me so grateful for all the people who have inspired me in my life with horses. <3

Absolutely love thoroughbreds, especially OTTB’s. Going to be looking at a thorougbred mare this weekend, and I’m like 90% sure I’ll buy her. Finally have my heart filled with a thoroughbred again :)
