As an Asexual Boy

• I get told that, because I don’t have sex with my girlfriend, I don’t really love her or don’t find her attractive ; • When I say I find someone attractive, people automatically assume I want to have sex with them ; • I get told that it’s just a phase, that I haven’t found the right person or figured out my sexuality yet ; • People assume there is something wrong with the way my body works or that I was sexually abused as a child ; • I am not uncomfortable when people talk about sex nor am I against it, I just don’t want to have sex and I get uncomfortable when it’s my sexual life we’re talking about ; • And, at last, I’m told that the way I feel doesn’t exist.

As an asexual boy, I am tired of society’s expectation of boys having sex at a young age and enjoying it. I am tired of people denying my feelings. I am asexual because I was born that way. There is nothing wrong with me and I am still capable of falling in love. And, most of all, I am the only one who’s entitled to say how I feel. My sexual life is none of your business.

Yesterday my mom, my 5 year old nephew and i were hanging out, and my mom kept constantly using female pronouns and calling me by my birth-name. 

finally my nephew interrupted her to say,  “He wants to be called Ben. He’s a boy now. You can’t call him a girl if he’s a boy.” 

and right after that, she started using my pronouns and name correctly. i guess it kind of hits you hard when a 5 year old child calls you out, cause anytime i’d try to correct her she’d keep making the excuse, “It’s hard, I’m trying.” 

i am so proud of my nephew, i shit you not.
