Have a good day or just a day and remember that you are unique. No one else looks like you, talks like you, sound like you or smile or shine like you. It doesn’t matter if you aren’t an accomplished professional or have many talents, or have reached your goals, you’ll get there, you will find your way and your own gifts and talents. I’m speaking from experience; I’m on a journey, have been for a long time, and I’m still looking, I’ll find what I have been searching for, and even if some times I feel disheartened, I’ll keep walking, looking and trying hard to find what is meant to be only for me.
So smile, lift your head up and don’t look back, you are not going in that direction; your gift is in front of you, keep walking and don’t give up~
With love and faith in you, Kat, your friend 😘
Self-Reblogging this because sometimes I also need a reminder. Love you guys ❤️
romantic love isn’t everything. love comes in many forms. when he bought you coffee. when she complimented your outfit. platonic love is just as good. friend love is good love too.

Sometimes you fall off the wagon for months. Sometimes you tell yourself you’re gonna start fresh on Monday and by Wednesday you’ve already fallen back off. Sometimes you have to restart a 100 times and it’s frustrating. But it will be okay. You can do this. One day at a time
Just like Slughorn, Albus Dumbledore collects people. Only, instead of focusing on those with influence, he looks to the outcasts.
The expelled half-giant. The young werewolf. The repentant Death Eater.
He protects them and gives them a second chance. All he asks in return is their loyalty.
And, if on occasion he requests that they undertake a certain task, invoking their debt of gratitude - well, that is no more than he is owed.
He once thought to add a certain disowned Black to his collection, but quickly realised his mistake.
Sirius is not an outcast, but a rebel. He knowingly chose his path, and chooses what price he is willing to pay for it. He refuses to be used.
So Albus Dumbledore abandons him.
Who gave you the RIGHT?
Dumbledore knows Sirius’s loyalty lies with Harry instead of him, and he has no use for someone who is not willing to follow his orders without question.
Ooooohoo if there’s ever a post that fits my aesthetic…
okay but then where does Harry himself fit into this collection? Is he an outcast because he is “the Boy Who Lived”?
Nooonono, my friend, that’s what makes this post so beautiful. Because it fits the meta I’ve been trying to get people to accept for years.
Harry was an outcast due to a childhood filled with abuse and neglect.
Vernon made him an outcast by dismissing his claims of magic, berating him, locking him in a CLOSET and putting bars on his window, and let’s face it, even though her editor made her cut it out, Jo intended for there to be physical abuse.
Petunia made him an outcast by enabling and contributing to this abuse, as well as making Harry do dozens of chores while doting on Dudley.
Dudley made him an outcast by bullying him and threatening any students at school who wanted to be his friends.
And the rest of the wizarding world made him an outcast when they bullied him for being an outsider.
Harry James Potter became an outcast the moment he was placed with The Dursleys.
And who put him there in the first place?
Tonight as I was walking Cas, the smell of firewood smoke was prevalent in the air. Not surprising considering it is supposed to go down to 18 degrees tonight.
So. The smell of burning firewood brings back really strong, bittersweet memories.
The first one I can recall is when I was 9. My parents had just gotten divorced and my dad almost died because his gallbladder was infected and the infection had spread to other organs. He had to have emergency surgery and was in the hospital for a while. That first night, one of his coworkers took me and my little sister in. To take our minds off of everything she took us camping. I had my very first s'more and learned how to dance to TLC's waterfalls next to a bonfire at the crater of an inactive volcano.
Going camping, floating on a river, followed by playing games after going through one of the worst experiences of my life the previous evening. Then getting hit by an actual tornado later that night. I can honestly say I've survived camping through a tornado.
My first event was Beltane. I danced and drank to the sound of drums after washing dishes all day on kitchen duty.
My second official event was Samhein. Throwing a log on the remembrance fire to honor those who died over the previous year followed by drinking next to a campfire. Then going to sleep while listening to a master storyteller sing us the stories of the barony. My dreams were amazing that night.
This time of year brings out a lot of nostalgia.
I bring my dog everywhere with me
In public he’s a very quiet, well behaved animal. He spends a lot of time looking at people’s faces whilst they’re doing things.
Mind you, the guys’ my best friend. Like we’re together constantly, we do everything together and when it’s just me and him he’s the biggest dork on the planet. He’s the most undignified creature I’ve ever had the pleasure to be acquainted with.
So of course, like I forget how pretty and unique he looks to new people. He’s a German Shepherd that was born all white -so he has a long, stark white coat, a fluffy tail, and golden eyes. They’re the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen, in the right light they sort of glow amber.
Today we went to get coffee, and the coffee lady looked down and just had a meltdown, “he’s a fae!” (Her accent makes me think she’s Russian/Ukrainian) so I looked down and the little nerd is doing his best “we’re in public I’m gonna act cool” schtik, sitting with his fluffy tailed curly majestically by his side, chest out, head tilted slightly up so he can just by a few degrees look at the lady right in her face. He just sits. And stares.
Again like my dog is nuts, he’s the type of guy that will reduce himself to a puddle of whimpers, nibbles and flailing paws over a phrase like “is it time for a walk?”, also, he sleeps with a stuffed hedgehog. Every night. If he can’t find Sonic he’ll storm the house and howl at people like they’re holding him prisoner until it’s found.
So cue Sabot (dog, pronounced “Say-bow”) acting like he’s not a hot mess, and this lady is just captivated. She says “he has such a wise face, he looks like an old wizard’s dog, can I biscuit him?” To which I say of course, she gets a biscotti and comes around the counter and squats down near Sabot, who does what most polite people do when meeting a new person and shakes hands. This is too much for the coffee lady, and she takes her 15 minute break. To talk to My Dog.
Guys, I think I just found a new best friend because that was the cutest reaction to meeting a dog I’ve ever seen.
I love your -8 ninetales
Best. Reblog. Ever.
Ok, so I found the perfect photos that capture the spectrum of his behavior:
In public/when strangers are around:
Taken literally two seconds later, when it’s just him and I:
Us, alone, too lazy to hold his own head up so he rests it on things:
There was also once, with one of our pack mates, he saw a mirror for the very first time. He proceeded to make faces at the mirror for several minutes, sitting on the back of a couch like a cat:
Wise face indeed.
@stupid-poetry
You will meet many types of people in your life. You will meet delicate flowers, raging oceans, quiet forests, towering mountains, and colourful skies. You will meet thunderstorms, you will meet lightning. They will knock you down, they will leave you breathless. You will meet sunrises, you will meet gardens. They will give you light, they will take you on adventures. Explore them. Get lost with them. They all have something to teach you.
Reblog if you want to people to come into your inbox and tell you what type of person you are to them - gardens? a sea storm? a sunrise that is brilliant and bold, or a sunrise that that is soft and pale with mist and promise? anything or everything…
tell meeee
Hit me!
Why not
i don’t like the askbox so just reblog and tag me <3
@jumpingjacktrash - one of those dense patches of pine forest, all interactions of trunk lines and lightbeam lines and the softening lines of the carpet of dead pine needles
also, ppl can totally hit up my inbox with their thoughts about me!
“Just trust your gut”
Pal I have anxiety, my gut is literally always telling me to abort mission
I’ve had this in my queue all year
Two Types of People on November 1st
Type 1: I HEAR THOSE SLEIGH BELLS RINGLING-
Type 2: HALLOWEEN WAS ONLY ONE MINUTE AGO, AT LEAST WAIT UNTIL DECEMBER YOU HEATHEN
a small wisdom that I need to remember 🌿
You don’t own your ebooks with DRM. You’re merely licensing the privilege to read them. Some readers overseas have learned this the hard way (yet again) now that Nook is going out of business in the United Kingdom. But don’t worry, they’re working to let you maybe possibly transfer all those books you bought.
The Register and TechDirt brought this notice from Nook’s UK site to our attention (emphasis mine):
Effective from March 15, 2016, NOOK will no longer sell digital content in the United Kingdom. The NOOK Store on NOOK devices sold in the UK, on the UK NOOK Reading App for Android, and at nook.com/gb will cease operation.
To meet your digital reading needs going forward, NOOK has partnered with award-winning Sainsbury’s Entertainment on Demand to ensure that you have continued access to the vast majority of your purchased NOOK Books at no new cost to you. Further instructions on how to transfer your NOOK Books to a new or existing Sainsbury’s Entertainment on Demand account will be sent to you by email over the coming weeks. Please ensure that you look out for these emails as they will contain important information on what to do next.
Your action is required.
“…continued access to the vast majority of your purchased NOOK Books…”
They’re not even promising that you’ll be able to transfer all your books!
Digital rights management (DRM) is absolutely crippling our ability to preserve digital knowledge for the future. And it’s half the reason I prefer deadtree books.
Even when it’s an accident (like when Amazon deleted everybody’s copies of George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm from their Kindles) it shows just how little control we have over the books we “buy” from digital retailers.
So repeat after me…
You don’t own your ebooks.
You don’t own your ebooks.
You don’t own your ebooks.
This has been an issue for libraries since e-books first started being released.
I keep forgetting that this is a thing that isn’t widely known outside of libraries, the mentality of publishers that electronic media is being “lent” to the buyer, rather than actually becoming a thing you own.
This really bothers me on an accessibility level, bc my Kindle having everything on it makes it accessible to me in my tiny house, with my busted back. I don’t have to get up to get another book. I don’t have to reserve space I don’t have for books. I don’t have to carry a bunch of heavy books when I’m already managing my wheelchair etc while traveling.
This is such a problem.
My husband has complicated allergies. Book ink and the formaldehyde in the paper is a major issue for him. But an ereader works great!
Richard Stalman wrote an article about this back in the 90s called The Right to Read, IIRC.
Welcome to our dystopian cyberpunk present. :/
This is why I use Calibre to back everything up.
There you go.
For anyone who reads sci fi and fantasy, Baen/Tor (who publish a LOT of SF/f, including my beloved Vorkosigan Saga) sell most of their own ebooks on their own site unless the author has a special agreement, and all their ebooks are DRM free. They’re available in a bunch of different formats depending on what kind of ereader you have. Some other publishers also do, though I can’t remember which ones.
I know that nook, Amazon, et al are convenient aggregators, but it may be worth checking if the publisher sells a DRM free version directly if there’s a book you really wanna make sure you don’t lose access to. In addition to the nook problem listed above, Amazon have also been caught retroactively editing the content of books in people’s libraries after purchase. So. You know. Either find a DRM free version to start with, or be prepared to crack every book you buy.
for said cracking, please see DeDRM
DeDRM and Calibre are easy and essential. You can and should own your ebooks.
Reblogging both for the resources and because shit like this regarding DRM pisses me off so fucking much…
This is exactly why I've stopped buying ebooks for the most part.
Typewriter Series #2010 by Tyler Knott Gregson
I have been here before. We all have. Out of salt water but still aching. If you are here again, please, ask for help. Reach out, find an ear to listen, find a hand to hold until it passes. You are not alone, you are never alone, and we need you here. Desperately. Stay. Please. We are here for you. This was Typewriter Series #186 years ago.
