Okay hear me out. I like Heated Rivalry, it’s a great show and yes the statistics are there that there must be closeted NHL players. I also like that because people are interacting with HR that they are seeing NHL content and also getting into the sport.

Being an NHL fan is great and I’m happy the fan base is growing but you cannot claim any close friends playing in the NHL are ‘real life’ Shane and Ilya. You can’t. I’ve seen it a lot recently with Will and Macklin from SJ Sharks where people are openly commenting on Instagram and TikTok comparing them to HR. Those two have a really special friendship and we should all be grateful they’re comfortable enough with each other to show it publicly.

This? Comparing them to Shane and Ilya? Publicly telling Will Smith ‘you know it’s okay to be gay’ is not acceptable. These are real people with real feelings. This isn’t a book. They don’t owe you their sexuality and it’s no one’s business but their own. Please leave NHL players alone 😭 they’re just doing their jobs with their besties and don’t deserve to feel uncomfortable doing it.

Carlos' little brothers send him a video message, he gets emotional

I accidentally stumbled upon this video, and it was so sweet I had to share it with you all. I added English subtitles, and I'll also leave the full transcription below, along with a link to the video.

It's an interview he did with the Real Federación Española de Tenis on April 19, 2020. Carlos was 16 years old. Sergio was 10, and Jaime was 8.

Transcription in English:

Host:

Carlos, do you remember that at the beginning of the program I told you we had a little surprise for you? A little surprise... let's see how you handle it. If it’s okay with everyone, let’s ask them to send us that question and that small surprise we’ve prepared — whenever you’re ready.

Sergio:

Hi! We’re Sergio and Jaime Alcaraz. We train at the Club de Campo in Murcia, and we’re Carlos’s brothers. We want to send both of you a very big hug and congratulate Carlos for everything he has achieved so far. We’re very proud of you, and we miss you a lot at home. We also want to congratulate Juan Carlos for his entire sports career and tell him that he’s very nice.

Jaime:

Our first question is for Carlos: Which two tournaments would mean the most to you to win in the future? And the second question is for Juan Carlos: When and why did you decide to become a coach?

Yes, yes, from seeing them... and also because… I don’t usually say a lot of those kinds of things to my brothers. Like I love you, I miss you. So hearing those kinds of words from my little brothers, yeah… it gets me a bit emotional *he says softly, looking touched*
