i donât like to label my sexuality but âmean mommiesâ are at least 90% of it
"If you smile too much you'll get laugh lines!!!!!" what a horrible curse, to be afraid of having happiness permanently placed onto your body
I feel like we don't talk enough about how the whole "capitalism is a democracy! vote with your dollar!" myth falls apart once you're dealing with a company that doesn't sell directly to individual consumers
Like say you want to boycott Norfolk Southern after the East Palestine disaster. Presumably you're not in the situation where you personally do business directly with Norfolk Southern, so that's not an option. Products don't have stickers telling you what freight company shipped them, two of the same product sitting right next to each other on the same shelf may well have been handled by two different companies and there's no way for you to tell. And in some cases companies like that may have monopolies on transporting certain goods in certain areas, so you couldn't make a different choice even if you knew. How could you possibly say that such a situation is "democratic" and decided on by consumers?
Capitalism enjoyers love to pretend that the whole economy is Tommy trading his apples for Mary's flowers in a mutually beneficial exchange and ignore 99% of the nuance in the economic system they claim to believe in
It sucks, friends
Just got far enough out of our bankruptcy that our credit is starting to heal.
Middle-class, American-born-and-raised Brit here. Believe me when I say the loss of the NHS is probably my biggest fear. The NHS is struggling currently (and for whatever my personal experience is worth, it has deteriorated over the last decade). However, the US style of healthcare is so manifestly, clearly inferior in terms of cost vs outcome that it's unthinkable any reasonable government would even consider it.
The problem in that sentence, unfortunately, is 'reasonable.'
Remember that bit where âJoeâ went around asking Brits to guess how much basic ass healthcare costs people in the United States? (link)
Donât let your politicians Americanizeâaka privatize & profitizeâthe NHS any more than they already have, because it sucks!
As a USian, I have to tell you, it's even worse than having to pay a lot for your health care. What actually happens is that you simply don't get health care.
Years ago I was very broke when my doc recommended a CT scan. CT scans cost about $3k with insurance. I did not have $3k. I felt okay, so I didn't get it.
Five years later I had a third of my lung removed when it collapsed from the cancer that could've been caught early if not for the price tag.
Privatized health care kills. It nearly killed me already. I'm confident that, when I die, it will be from something that could've been avoided if I could've just fucking paid for it.
the church of england was literally started because henry viii, a man who cheated on his wife multiple times and had at least one child with one of the women he cheated on her with, wanted a divorce that the catholic church wouldnât give him.
you are the last people who should be saying anything about the sanctity of marriage, you absolute clowns đđđ
Who had dissolution of Great Britain on their 2023 bingo card?
The monarch is the titular head of the CoE, right? The famously divorced Charles?
25-35 is such a weird fucking age because youâre 100% a bread-and-butter Standard Edition Millennial but the cool teens are like âok boomerâ because you have a Real Job but the actual Boomers at your job are like âIâm not going to listen to a literal fucking childâ as they download 16 self-replicating viruses and meanwhile the Gen Xers are telling you to refinance a mortgage for a house you donât have and youâre sitting there at the Adults Table with the pretty tasty casserole you cooked because youâve finally figured out how to do that now but everyone is eating the Boomerâs store-bought macaroni instead and admittedly they do sort of taste similar so it probably wasnât worth all the trouble of cooking from scratch and youâre trying to comfort the freshly-graduated sobbing 22-year-old next to you because she just woke up here and doesnât know where she is but you have like maybe 5k dollars in a savings account labelled RETIREMENT that grows approx. twelve cents a year and you keep eating dry macaroni while smiling incomprehensibly and periodically blacking out like ??????????
Omg someone FINALLY put it into WORDS
I know the 90s are back, but stores are starting to market clothes with âO-ringsâ again and Iâm laughing because I donât know how many people wearing them know what the fuck they are.
