Beautiful #birdmotif #vintage #pillbox for £3
New Town, New Treasure
And so I'm back! From outer (blogging) space... Life got busy and to be honest, I was buying from charity shops so often that it just became the norm and practically impossible to document every find!
I've since moved house and this weekend I got to check out my local charity shops.....
WOW!!! Truely, utterly AWESOME.
Great stuff at amazing prices. Round this neck of the woods a lot of shops tend to be ridiculously over-priced, but our little town has got it's sensible head on.
Check out these absolutely awesome finds... I'll take some photos of the actual shops next time.
HEART PRINT CUT OUT DETAIL PLAYSUIT... £3.25!
FULL LENGTH BLACK FAUX FUR TRIMMED CARDIGAN... £5
I know this is SO 90s. Maybe this is what working at Bay Trading for 7 years does to you- my heart yearned for it! I can't wait to swoosh around the house in it, looking like Morticia Adams.
IT'S SOOOOO FLUFFY!
EMBELLISHED TOP- River Island, £3 and BODY CON SKIRT- Marks and Spencer, £2.50
This top is borderline 'someone threw up on me' but I kinda like it's summery energy. I'm also loving the skirt for the fact it's an 8 (I'm a 12) and it acts as a temporary tummy tuck. Bonus.
KNITTED PONCHO- £3
SCARVES- £1.25 and £1
Have discovered the joy of tying scarves into the hair. Green seems to compliment my new red hair colour and the scarf also hides dastardly roots! Check out this video from Liberty to see how it's done:

Here's an example:
FROG THROW- £2.50
I couldn't resist this ridiculous frog themed throw! I've got absolutely no idea what I'm gonna do with it. But it was just too kitsch and cheap to not take home with me. At the moment, it looks like it's hiding a corpse in front of my bookcase.
COAT- £5, 100% PURE WOOL SCARF- £4, BOOK 50p
My mate insists this Thornproof coat is a bloke's garment, despite it being in the Ladies wear... Hmmmm!
I also picked up a pair of red curtains for a tenner and 2 pillow cases still in their packet for £1.
Absolute bargains!!!
Lastly, I discovered that there is an insanely cute vintage furniture shop minutes from the end of my road with adjoining gift shop full of the most beautiful bits and bobs.
Check it out: http://discoverattic.com/
My new house is absolutely awesome. We have the river running at the end of our garden and have adopted a swan, we call him Steve.
Between Steve and the charity shops, I think I'm going to be very happy here :)
I bought these #leopardprintboots with black lace heel detail today from the #sambearehospice shop. Are they too #patbutcher??
Picked up this book on #vintageshopping in Paris from the Fara #charityshop bookshop in Teddington. It's stunning, has loads of lovely photos and when I went to pay it was half price- £2.20!!!
Books from the #charityshop today. The theme today was girl in her 30s is a bit of a catastrophe and wasted her 20s on cheap wine and rough men . Or was that the other way round... Anyway, I empathised :)
Picked up this 60s style shift dress for £3.50 in the Fara at Richmond Bridge today #bargain #shiftdress #retro #60sstyle #60s #charityshop #thrift
Who in their right mind would give away this supercute #dogprint shirt from Zara to a #charityshop?! Spied it through the window last night at 11pm and phoned up this morning to put it to one side. #charityshopwin #thrift
#ootd #charityshop Mother: "are you off to the circus? Get in the car before the neighbours see" ... Nobody appreciates my forward thinking fashion *blah*
Today's #ootd #pinktights #brownshoeboots #charityshop
#ootd #carbootsale #maxidress #leopardprintscarf that's ancient
Yesterday's #ootd #charityshop #sequinjumper from #whistles ... Finally got to wear it after buying it on the hottest day of the year yay.
A dreary day requires dressing as if you got dressed in the dark & from a fancy dress box... (Excuse the car debris!) #vintagecoat #leopardprint #pinktights #vintagedress #beyondretro
Booty Bargains
I popped down to Capital Car Boot Sale in Pimlico yesterday.
I like this car boot for the pure basis that you don't have to get up at the crack of dawn. Why do car boots usually start when I'm just crawling home from the pub?? There is NO NEED to start so bloody early!
I digress... Here's what I bought home with me inside these 2 massive Vogue bags (This car boots got a bit of a reputation as being a little bit more upmarket than your regular boot sale):
My first buy was this vintage cardigan. It's in amazing condition, it doesn't look like it's been worn. It also has a genius lining inside it so that you don't get the dreaded itchy cardi feeling on your skin. It cost me £4 and I've attached a beautiful vintage butterfly brooch I also bought:
Next up, this 70s style print caught my eye. It's actually a Topshop dress and a size 14. (I have had to admit that I've gone up 2 dress sizes... At least shopping at car boots keeps costs down if you are a yo yo weight gainer/loser). A little too big at the chest, but nothing a well placed safety pin won't fix. Not keen on the arms, but perhaps useful to shove tissues up in the winter?! (Desperately trying to think of a reason to keep this one.. only thing I can come up with currently. Rubbish justification, I know... Must try harder.):
You can also just about see the huge bright red heart ring I got for 50p:
Now, in a similar style, I spotted this genuine vintage 70s maxi dress for a fiver. The lady selling it asked me if I was going to a 70s fancy dress party. When I answered 'No, I just love the print and I'll wear it out.' , I think she thought I was a bit insane. Some people just don't 'get' vintage... Their loss in my opinion. Give me someone's 30 year old clothes, with a life and story behind them... Something I'm not going to see anybody else wearing, over an identikit dress from River Island any day.
I'm wearing this with a £2 Warehouse belt I also bought, though it's a bit big. I may look miserable, but I call this the Victorian look.
Did you know that back then, photographers would get their subjects to say 'prunes' rather than 'cheese'? This would illicit the small, tightly controlled mouth they considered beautiful. (Can't say I've ever had a small, tightly controlled mouth but first time for everything.)
I don't care if I look like your Granny- you're Granny must have looked great!
Here's a closer pic of the print:
Clearly I was in the full hippy-swing, so I also invested 50p in these beautiful bindis:
And opted for this folksey skirt too... (Cat with robot eyes was not included in the sale):
A brilliant beauty bargain was waiting round the corner for me... A girl was selling these brand new, never opened Barry M liquid eye liners in bright shades for just 50p each, originally £4.50 a pop. It would have been insane not to get one in every colour.
What I didn't bank on, was just how long lasting they are... I was messing around with the pink one this morning. Despite ferocious scrubbing with baby wipes, I cannot remove the bloody pink line across my eyelids. I've had to go to work looking slightly ridiculous today ... (The miserable face still firmly intact, but I blame that on Monday mornings.)
Speaking of today's outfit, I picked up this H&M dress for £3. I've teamed it with my charity shopped wedge boots from Friday:
I really should have ironed it. Oops.
What else did I buy?? Ok... I'll whizz through the rest:
This black Topshop dress (£3) with an empire line waist as I knew it'd be flattering. I also bought the over the knee black boots (£7) which my sister instantly labelled "slut boots"... Hmmm... I think she's right. I was clearly caught up in boot sale fever.
Here's a 2nd vintage brooch I bought, cutely decorating a brown knitted poncho (£2) that still has it's tag in:
I also picked up these cute vintage screw back earrings:
My last purchase was one of those 'the car boot sale gods are looking down on me' items. I am dog sitting for 2 wire haired sausage dogs in a couple of weekends time and spotted this little guide to their breed for £1:
In conclusion, I spent far too much money on things I didn't need. But they are all pretty and it was a lovely afternoon on my own, time to myself. My phone had run out of juice so was switched off in my pocket. I think I'll make it a more regular Sunday thing...Switch off and car boot!
#sergeantpepper #peppermill #carbootsale buy a while ago for my Dad
I heart my #charityshop -ped #wedgeboots Even my Dad and Grandma complimented me on them earlier today... And I just realised they are #primark :-0 #dontcare #primarni #charityshop
Just the remedy!
I was waiting for my prescription to be filled at the chemist this morning, so popped into the charity shop next door to kill some time. I didn't quite bank on the shop being filled to the rafters with an absolute load of amazing stuff.
I had to leave behind the fantastic vintage style Guinness place mats and coasters, the utterly gorgeous 1970s silver and wooden tea service and the 1960s flowery folding tray. All at amazingly cheap prices. I am still living at home with my Mum and the garage is full, so I have had to stop buying for a house that I don't actually have, let alone rent. Gutted! But £36 for 2 pairs of brand new shoes, 2 handbags, a posh cardi, a branded sports top, and a ring wasn't bad I don't think.
This is what I did take home with me...
(Please forgive the rubbish photos, this was a quick lunch time photo shoot at my desk.)
These super cute, unworn, tan wedge boots. I'm hoping they look ok with a dress as well as trousers:
Another pair of cute and unworn shoes, this time patent grey with a brilliant lime green heel. These say Limited Collection which I think is M&S:
This red, Oriental handmade hand bag:
And this khaki and red handbag which I love as it's so useful to have a proper shutting clasp on a handbag for once, (to stop all the rubbish and charity shop receipts falling out):
This Fenn Wright Manson brown bolero cardigan with black embellishment which at a fiver, was probably the biggest bargain, given it would have retailed at around £60 new:
Embarrassingly bad picture to be replaced ASAP.
This frankly, hideous, luminous yellow Nike Barcelona Football Club training top for my sister who plays in goal in a Ladies team. If she doesn't wear it playing football, she could wear it riding her bike at night to ensure she's visible from the moon.
And finally, the jewel in this charity shop haul crown... As I was waiting to pay, I picked up a little black box by the side of the till. Inside was this awesome scrabble ring. I bought it for a barginous £1.50 and Katy who sits opposite me at work scored 5 points. Result.
