#this episode. my goodness. gosh.#river is one of the few people you’d *expect* to know the doctor on sight - any doctor! - and she doesn’t#and that’s a minor mindfuck for both the viewer and the doctor himself#dropping hints all over the place and she still. doesn’t. get it. and he’s like “WTF?!?! RIVAH!!! IT MEEEEE!!!”#it’s one of the most fun eps AND one of the most sad eps#and ur doin a wee (BIGGGG) cry and then - AND THEN! - it turns out that a night on Darillium lasts for 24 years#honestly idk how well it all worked for viewers who didn’t have a clear memory of a pair of episodes from 2008 but fuck it i love this#i need more fandom discussion of exactly when the doctor found out how long the nights are on Darillium#did 11 know? was he scared? did 12 just find out? did he know and he just went “fuck it” and decided he’d do literally the whole night?#river’s right the doctor always finds a loophole somehow a trick nobody else spotted an expected way out of danger#and this time it’s… doing time-travel the normal way. not fucking off in the tardis at the end. obeying the clock for once.#if the night lasts 24 years then he’s damn well gonna do those 24 years - all the right order and without skipping the dull bits#oh no i am having an emotion send halp (x)
