So like, I grew up in a very religious close minded environment and country. Recently, I started reading Tarot, and discovered I love it. However I got lots of negative comments and warnings from my family and friends like "be careful", "that's the devil's thing". Now I'm looking at other kind of witchcraft stuff and I find them very interesting and fun. But I'm scared of actually doing them. Its a stupid question, but is it actually safe? Like I'm not at danger of being cursed or anything?

hey there! so yeah, this is a big deal. i’m right there with you. i totally felt this way too. so i’m gonna ramble for a minute.

i was raised southern baptist - i knew i would get the “hell and devil” talk if my family found out. only my dearest friends know i’m a witch (or that i read tarot). but you bet i never told a soul when i had a sudden spiked interest in witchcraft my junior year of high school.

there’s pretty much a 0% chance of you getting cursed for a random reason.. and the threefold rule only applies if you’re wiccan/believe in it separately. i don’t because i don’t need that kind of guilt in my life (just kidding guys). i just work under my own personal moral code of ethics! please don’t feel like you have to worry about some giant karmic force slamming into you because you’re interested in a spiritual path. its hard to break that feeling, but once you do, you’re home free. 

i promise you nothing will come back to bite you except for a few things if they’re done willy nilly, but that usually pertains to the realm of spirit work and necromancy. simply just making sure you’re well educated on a topic is all you need! even then its really not that spooky. i’ve graduated from baptist christian to necromancer and witch, if i can do it, so can you.

the biggest thing that made me feel better about witchcraft honestly was never ending research and my own personal trial and error. witchcraft can be in your face or it can be subtle. its honestly so wonderful, broad, and versatile. but you are in control. its your craft, no outside sources or karmic beings are going to try to strike you down for casting a confidence spell or reading some cards. the only force that can really stop you is.. well, yourself. moral of the story is: the more you read up on the topic, the more you’ll be more comfortable with it. things can be really scary until we know about it, like the deep ocean or something. 

on the other hand, a great deal of witches don’t curse. the ones that do usually do it when they deem necessary. i personally am a “pro-curse” type of witch, but i’ve never even cursed anyone. i’ve never felt the need! i usually tailor my magick towards helping others or self-help/self-discovery. 

ever since i let go of christianity and let myself be free to not feel like i was going to hell for my decisions and my craft is the moment i felt so much better about.. just about everything. i’m not saying drop your religion and devote yourself to witchcraft, but i’m saying don’t let something hold you back from what you feel called to! you have to find your happy place. mine is simply because my experience with christianity was not a positive one, but that’s just me, and you’re you. plus you can work with any religion you wish and be a witch (or none at all)! i’ve met pagans, christians, buddhists, satanists, the list goes on… all witches! you have to do what you want to do. find what makes you happy.

yes, sometimes it’s taking a warm bath and texting memes to friends and keeping an aesthetically pretty journal.

sometimes it’s crying silently on your couch at 3am, hugging yourself and reminding yourself that you’re a good person.

self care is not always ‘aesthetic’ and cute…and that’s ok. don’t be embarrassed, just do what you need to do.

Grounding Method

This is something nice that I’ve learned from my research and has worked with me!

Take 3 deep slow breaths

Feel your own energy flowing through your body

Focus on a point in the center of your chest and visualize a small green glowing light there 

Visualize a tendril of green energy growing from that energy center down toward the Earth. Let it reach past your feet. 

Visualize it growing into the Earth, spreading into roots and twisting through the soil. Feel how solid and stable your roots are.

You have formed the connection! Let excess energy leave or draw some from the Earth when you are drained
