As much as I wish I am back on this beach, I’m incredibly grateful. After my first initial visit to the ER two nights ago, I was discharged after CT scans and ultrasounds didn’t show anything, even so still in pain, with no answers. I spent the next two days in excruciating pain knowing I needed to stay with my body to listen to what it needed, I could feel my body screaming out to me. I woke up this morning and found my way back to the ER, this time after my pain being heard I was rushed into emergency surgery. I had an ovarian torsion. My right ovary had wrapped around my ligament two times. Within a couple hours if this surgery had not occurred my ovary would have died and had to be removed. Throughout this, I was not alone, I was deep in prayer knowing God would hear my prayers, I had the incredible support of my partner and my dear friend. I had the calls and messages to wake up from family and friends. I am now home resting completely content to (for the first time) not be on the beach, but to be surrounded by love and filled with an incredibly grateful heart. I am so blessed. With a final dip in the North sea, another European chapter comes to a close. I arrived to Stockholm a couple weeks back to catch up with @willen132. Our days were spent wandering the parks, dancing in the rain, creating new recipes, and late nights filled with laughter and sunsets. After a few days I headed south and spent a few days with family at the lake and under the sun before heading to Göteborg for a wedding. We @krishnafav spent the weekend dancing into the night and celebrating the love of @hannafavali & @donmauri01 .With a final day at the sea soaking up the summer sun peeking through the clouds, with a grateful heart I am off to catch my flight. My grandfather made his way to heaven last night. I awoke filled with so much gratitude to have known him, to have loved him. I feel so blessed to have witnessed his patience, his honesty. He was quiet, but his kindness spoke volumes. I have so many memories to cherish with him, so many moments that fill my heart when I think of him. We left the rain in Spain to explore the East. Arriving in Debrecen to explore the small town for a day under the sun before popping on a train to Budapest to pick up a car and continue our adventure. We drove through the rolling hills and sunflower fields of Hungary before coming into Slovenia where we stayed with a friend in her newly acquired 200 year old historic home. We awoke with the sun and drove through Slovenia’s fields and rivers until we met the sea in Croatia. The next days were spent along the Dalmatian coast, swimming and subbing in the aquamarine Adriatic Sea. We finished our southern point in Montenegro and took a final swim in the Bay of Kotor before heading north through the mountains and following the Neretva river through Bosnia & Herzegovina, stopping briefly in Mostar to walk across the old bridge. We drove through Vincovci around 1 AM to take a moment with Agatha Christie’s inspiration of the Murder on the Orient Express before finding a small cottage out of town to rest. Another sunrise awoke us and lead us into Serbia where we enjoyed a cup of coffee and continued our drive through the plains and sunflower fields; all the while following the Danube river back to Budapest. The night lead us to exploring the lights of Budapest, wandering across the bridges and along the river under the full moon that lit up the starry sky. With one final rest in the East, I awoke with the sun, enjoyed a breakfast and cup of coffee before heading to hop on my flight to the north. I’ll be seeing you Eastern Europe, thank you for the sunshine and the adventures that lead us through kilometres and kilometres of beauty. We drove with the lightening illuminating the sky to hop on a flight heading across Europe. This last week was spent on beaches soaking up the sea & sunshine along the Spain coast. We wandered around some of the coastal towns and cities enjoying the sounds of cathedral bells in Sevilla & Valencia. Our last day we found a local rock beach with arches and caves to swim in. With another sunrise we are off, another country, another adventure, and endless possibilities of what is to come. To the magic of travelling & starting each day with a grateful heart. We arrived into Marrakech with the stars ready to explore after some rest. The days in Marrakech were spent enjoying tagines and other specialties of foods with new spices and oils for our taste buds to try. We spent the days wandering the markets and the parks under the bright sun. Our next stop was Taghazout, we spent our days there drinking smoothies, hiking, and soaking up sun at the beaches. Our next stop was Casablanca, we found some new favourite coffee shops and took our time wandering around the streets and the boardwalk. We saw the beautiful Hassan II mosque and felt closer to Humphrey Bogart as we watched the waves crashing upon the walls of the city. “Here’s looking at you, kid.” We hopped on a train from Casablanca with the afternoon sun and spent our last days in Fes, with more winding roads to wander and markets to explore. With a final breakfast and wander around the city we are ready for our next adventure. I’ll be seeing you Morocco, back to Europe. We arrived with the clouds and rain in Porto, Portugal. We decided to head to the south to find the sun. We spent a day exploring Lisbon trekking the hills and finding spots to enjoy a cup of coffee. The next few days were consumed with driving along the gorgeous Algarve coast. The coast was filled with cliffs to hike, caves and rock formations to swim to, and beaches to soak up the sun. The beauty of falling asleep to the full moon and waking up to the ocean everyday kept my heart full. We eventually made our way back up the coast in time for the celebration and fireworks in Porto. The last day was spent wandering the town and enjoying the colourful tiles and buildings that filled the streets. With a grateful heart, sun kissed skin, and a smile, I am ready for my next adventure. Morocco bound. I arrived with the full moon into Mallorca. I fell asleep with the sound of the waves crashing upon the rocks and awoke with the sea’s call and the sun shining brightly upon me. I spent the next days spending time with friends, enjoying laughter over matcha lattes and avo toast. The days were spent soaking up the beautiful sun and swimming in the sea. With the few days flying by, I’m on another plane blowing kisses to the island below, ready for my next adventure. Portugal bound. {A bit of a delayed post.} 25. A new year, a new adventure. I was reminded the other day of something quite simple, be happy for this moment, this moment is your life. This last year, being 24 challenged me in good ways, in hard ways. It challenged me to be better, to grow more, to show up for myself and show up for this life. At the end and beginning of every day I must always return to gratitude. I spent this past year exploring new places, meeting new friends, and completing my first year of grad school. So much more and so much less, this year gave me, each year before gives me something new, reminds me of the memories, and each coming year as I grow older I am reminded that in all that this life is, all we can do for ourselves is to show up, every moment of every day, just show up. Be present with yourself and witness the magic. It’s moments like these, as time comes to an end where you sit and remember, you sit with a grateful heart acknowledging where you have been and where you are. Throughout the beginning and middle of 2018 I travelled through countries and states witnessing the beauty of this earth, feeling gratitude for the friendships that I found along the way and the adventures that I embarked on. Late into 2018, I began my first year of graduate school at Columbia University. Now, into the midst of 2019 and counting down the days until my finals are complete, I am about to wrap up my first year. I feel so grateful to be here, so incredibly proud and happy to be where I am in this beautiful life.
