What the hell?? ABSOLUTLY NO. Anyone, with a minimum of intelligence and reading comprehension, saw that Naruto was never in love with Sakura. It’s simply stupid to think otherwise. Tell me a panel where Naruto does something for Sakura, that has nothing to do with Sasuke. Tell me, i’ll wait. His only bond with her completely depends on Sasuke, even their friendship feels forced just because they are on the same team, Sakura was forced to understand and bear Naruto’s personality because she never couldn’t stand him nor his antics. They don’t understand each other, Naruto never had empathy with Sakura when she fought Ino in the Chunin exams, and he should because the rivalry that Naruto and Sasuke feel for each other is similar to Sakura and Ino’s rivalry. I also remember, after Pain attack, Naruto is worried about Tsunade and is Sakura who has to cheer him up, and then a panel of her thinking ‘you should be the one cheering me up, Naruto’, meaning Naruto didn’t give a fuck that Sakura is Tsunade’s apprentice and therefore she has a more closer relation with her. Hell, even i remember panels later Naruto denies, without any pain in his face, that there was no triangle love in Team 7. I’m talking about FACTS.
Speaking of rivalry, what Sakura mentions that in The Last, which Naruto does not deny and proves to agree, is something seen from chapter 3 until the end of the manga , I am talking about the rivalry of Naruto and Sasuke, and that he only cares for Sakura as long as Sasuke is there. How can you say that he is in love when, after he sees her deplorable state in which she is, in the forest of death, his only concern is HER HAIR ??? seriously? and then you got Sasuke’s reaction, which is totally opposite of Naruto. Even when Naruto rescues Sakura from Gaara is because Sasuke told him so. Naruto didn’t even get closer to Gaara because he was scared, despite the fact that Sakura WAS DYING in front of him. He didn’t even have the reaction he had with Sasuke when he was dying during Haku fight, or even Hinata vs Pain later.
In the hospital scene Naruto is not heartbroken, this is how you want to see it, the first time Naruto is heartbroken is when Hinata rejects him in The Last, Naruto goes into depression and doesn’t even care about saving the world. That is being heartbroken. If Naruto was so hurt in that hospital scene, as you say, then why, in the next panel, he is seen eating at Ichiraku, so happily, with Iruka, and then moments later he thinks about visiting Sasuke again without any sadness or heartbroken expression, not even remembering the moment of the hug? because, deep down, it doesn’t matter to him.
There’re people who need to learn to analyze and really understand what visual language is telling us, and above all, what Kishimoto truly intended.
Following at that moment in the hospital, Naruto is seen, slightly, “hurting” because he feels envious, once again, of Sasuke. Naruto wants to have in his life a person who wants him as Sakura wants Sasuke, that’s what that expression on his face means. It has nothing to do with love, what love are you talking about? Think about it, why the hell was Naruto going to like Sakura, when she brings absolutely nothing to his character’s development, she is just someone who treats him like a nuisance? I think Naruto’s famous quote says everything “I hate people who lie to themselves”, this phrase says a lot about him as a character and definitely ends with the zombie that Narusaku was at that time. What are you, exactly, based on to say that Naruto did feel something, other than disgust, indignation and disappointment, for Sakura when she confessed to him? the only thing that I see is Naruto making a face of disbelief and then of anger, I do not see, even an atism, of sadness for the attempt of Sakura to play with his “feelings”. I don’t know what shinning in his eyes you’re talking about, I didn’t know that in manga you could catch the shinning of the eyes.
In short, if Naruto had been in love with Sakura, he would be shown hurt every time Sakura rejected those funny requests for dates and especially considering her aggressive attitude towards him, or we would see him hurt during the confession. Even when Sasuke tries to kill her and Naruto rescues her, he does not even get mad at Sasuke for trying to kill his “love”, on the contrary he smiles at him and tries to talk to him peacefully, calling him ‘friend’. I don’t remember Naruto reacting so friendly and understanding when Pain stabbed Hinata, don’t you think?
