Metalocalypse is truly an iconic show because it is at its core a series about a fanatical, often homicidal death cult that has taken over society worldwide, led by a cabal of dark gods that the cult serves voluntarily, except it's a goofy comedy because the Dark Gods do not realize they're Gods or that their followers are the most powerful religion in world history because they're celebrity divas and think that this is just how guys who are good at guitars SHOULD be treated in society. The series largely presents the cult's beliefs as, within the context of the series universe, objectively true and correct

And something I can't stress enough is that this is not like a Comedy Take on the show, this is the actual premise. This is information given to you literally at the outset of the series. I have not exaggerated any part of this for comic effect. At one point their lead guitarist actually independently figures out he's a God Incarnate, completely unrelated to the apocalyptic prophecy main plot, and he's just like "yeah that tracks." It does not change his behavior or view of himself one bit. All it does in his mind is validate his decision to be a deadbeat dad to enough kids that his illegitimate children constitute an Ethnic Group in and of themselves.

There is a character who is their most zealous fanatic of a follower, who has on multiple occasions actually taken up a sword to fight for them, who has a christ narrative where his brutal sacrifice is crucial to defeating the series' villains (a group led by a sinister old man with long white hair and beard who looks suspiciously like God, whose stooges include but are not limited to the Catholic Church and the US Army), and is generally regarded by the villains as the most dangerous player on the field. He's the band's manager, his name is Charles, and he looks like an absolutely regular businessman

I think the single most important detail left out of this whole post is that Metalocalypse was also created, directed, written, acted in, and scored all by the same person as this:
