I need Kate Bishop to stroll in and casually reveal that she's been spamming Yelena's old burner phone ALL this time, not realizing the new person with the number wasn't actually the blonde until the big Thunderbolts announcement and she broke into Watchtower to harass her about it.
(The person insisted Kate had the wrong number but she always brushed it off, the anger at her incessant texting fitting with her image of how she assumed Yelena would respond to her efforts anyhow.)
And Yelena's mind just...blanks and she realizes someone WAS there, trying to reach out to her. That she was actually on someone's mind all this time.
"After the fourth time you turned down my offer for drinks, I figured you just didn't want me around. So I settled for sending you monthly photos of Lucky and those were well received, I guess."
"You didn't think I wanted you around, so you...broke into my place of work to berate me for ignoring you?"
"Worked out well for you that one time."
Kate holds up a plastic gallon bag of what looks to be mac and cheese, a bottle of Sriracha hefted into view with her other hand. Yelena frowns, registering faint snickers from across the room where the team is undoubtedly eavesdropping.
"Kate Bishop... Only one fork, no Tupperware. How have you survived this long?"
Kate sighs and settles into one of the chairs at the kitchen table, motioning happily to the one across from her as she whips around her backpack to remove some paper plates and two cold, glass bottles of Mexican Coke.
Yelena slowly walks over to join her, her eyebrows furrowed and face blank as she takes a seat and one of the offered drinks.
Kate portions out the food and gives a hearty squeeze of hot sauce to both piles. Yelena's quirked eyebrow goes ignored as Kate digs around in her jacket pockets when she obviously doesn't find what she's looking for in her bag.
Kate's smile is big and bright as she reveals two shiny, metal forks a few moments later. Yelena's cheeks go pink and she raises a somewhat steady hand to grab the one with a green little bow wrapped around it.
"I invested in a second one not long after our girl's night. Haven't had the chance to use it just yet."
Kate shrugs again and starts to dig into her macaroni, as if she hadn't just pulled the ground out from underneath Yelena's feet with her simple statement. It's equal parts endearing and heartbreaking, and Yelena decides in that moment not to let either of them go without the other's company anymore.
