Recently, I decided it was time to branch out and try something new and different. I've had Nikons for eons, so long I could flip my D850 on and change settings and take a shot with my eyes closed and usually end up getting a fine shot. But with that loyalty also comes a feeling of almost... stagnation. Sure, I could cough up some more money and get a new and different lens, but a lens only goes so far. I've already got a wide angle, a prime lens, an all-around walkabout lens, and a telephoto lens. There weren't many more options to try out that I haven't already had.
So, it was time to change platforms entirely. Being the kind of person I am, though, I looked into a TON of different options. There are so many cameras out there that I'd love to have, but I am on a limited budget so it took me a while to narrow down something reasonably priced but still the kind of quality I would be proud to have. By chance, I ended up stumbling on the Canon 5Ds while reading about something else. What immediately caught my attention was the high pixel count and many options it boasts - still, it took me several months to decide to go ahead and try it, and even longer yet to find one at a good deal (I've been scouring eBay, because that's where I've found most of my good deals, and no surprise, I ended up getting one at a decent price that was in good shape just a few days ago.)
Today was the first day I was able to get out and actually play with it, and it was very different. Which is fun - I'm enjoying the challenge of learning an entirely new platform. Sure, the basic functions of a camera are all the same, but where to find them, how to set them, what all the different buttons do, and what settings are best for this particular camera and lens combo is... well, it's been an adjustment. The 50.6 MP sensor is very demanding but produces gorgeous clarity. So far I'm pretty impressed and all I have paired with it is a 50mm f/1.8 lens and have been using the Photos app on my laptop to edit, and photos are still turning out pretty sweet. I've got another lens on order as well and can't wait to get it so I can go out and REALLY test this puppy out. <3
